    Worst charger ever!

    • Written by from Excelsior

I am now about to purchase my 4th charger for my 2 year old MacBook. The charger lasts about 6 months maximum before it dies.

    Poor design

    • Written by from Brooklyn

The original adapter for my 2007 MacBook lasted for three years. It finally died, so I bought a replacement- this 60W MagSafe Power Adapter. It lasted only 7 months before it broke. I replaced it again, and THAT one broke down in 6 months. Today I very grudgingly bought another adapter- my THIRD 60W MagSafe in 13 months- and I don't expect much longevity out of it. I've purchased every time at an official Apple Store.

Compared to the previous design, the current 60W adapter is shoddy.

I have had this thing for ONE WEEK and it quit on me. I just paid 80 dollars for this thing to quit on me in one week. This is such a necessary item I am completely appalled at how poorly this is made, you should be embarrassed.

not a great adapter, crazy expensive replacement

    • Written by from Cedar City

From day one this adapter ran super hot, so hot that it made marks in my couch. I have been soooo careful with this cord. I've never bent it and rarely even wrapped it and when I did it was wrapped super loosely. There are no frayed wires, no breaks in the plastic insulation and yet here I am with an adapter that won't work. This means that the problem is entirely the manufacturers fault. The least Apple could do is price the cord in a way that reflects the cheap quality of the product but instead they price the cord at four times what other companies charge for their adapters.

    Apple FAIL.

    Replaced twice in 3 years

    • Written by from Oakville

I am on my third charger and have had my macbook for only a little over two years! The chargers work for a few months, then start working only intermittently and then not at all. I don't think many people can afford to buy a new magsafe adapter every time they die and maybe Apple should make it a priority to develop new chargers that last longer.

    Rubbish

    • Written by

The original one which comes with my macbook broke down in a year, I bought a new one, broke down again in a year. Connection was also bad and unstable, always disconnects when charging. A piece of rubbish which costs a lot. Definitely not recommended. Call yourself very lucky if yours last longer than a year.

    Poor Quality

I replaced the charger just 4 months after I got it. Now 6 months later it has randomly crapped out again. I took great care this time to ensure longevity and even my extra caution hasn't prevented this cord from being junk. Shelling out $80 a pop, is not affordable when you're a full time student with bills!

Break often and cost a fortune!

These chargers are ridiculously overpriced and tend to break a lot. Mine broke and it was simply painful to buy another. Apple should really do something about this.

    Unbelievable Piece of junk

    • Written by from Chapel Hill

After 5 years with a Dell laptop and 5 years with an IBM laptop, I finally "upgraded" and splurged on a MacBook Pro. I'd never had a problem with either of them, but the Mac glitz seduced me. Within 6 months the first power cable frayed and I replaced it. Yesterday, the rectangular housing around the contact pins on the replacement cable separated from the cable. I haven't had it a year yet. In case you think I'm tossing this thing around in my backpack, that's not the case. I'm a 65-year old woman who handles all this stuff carefully and respectfully. This is a huge manufacturing defect, and I am really surprised that Apple went to market with something so seriously flawed. It really frosts me that I'm facing a $20 a month "cable" cost on this laptop.

    Apple are you listening?

    • Written by

The design of this product is poor. Apple, why are you not able to build a power cord that performs and lasts for many, many years? My 7 year old vacuum has a cord that has lasted under much more demanding usage. Can't you innovate like that? If it was a choice I would say don't buy it. But this is Apple. There is no choice. Those who are happy with this product are Mac Loyalists, the type to embrace any Apple product. Apple, your laptops are great. Make a power cord which complements them!

2nd adapter has gone down... now onto 3rd

    • Written by from Scarborough

Let's be honest; the reviews here are going to be high because the thing works or low because it doesn't. Myself, my second adapter in just over 3 years has died and I'm about to be forced into buying a third.

    This is ridiculous.

For a company that touts its world leading design, you think Apple could come up with a design for their power adapter -- the least high-tech, easily perfected element of the whole system -- that would ensure that they don't die on a regular basis. Seriously... it's a power adapter! How hard is it to make one that constantly doesn't die.

Get your act in gear Apple. This is embarrassing to the company's reputation.

Its not even 3 months old. About a week ago the charging had become intermittent and suddenly it died on me.I have a lot of work to do.And I am a stuent who does not earn.so paying $80 for a new charger is way too much.I hate when something happens to my mac when I have paid double the price for half the configuration.

WORST CORD I'VE HAD IN MY LIFE

    • Written by from Issaquah

As an average American I have cords for everything I own. I'll admit, I don't wrap them up after every single use, but have never had problems until I purchased my macbook.

Now, I'm going on the third cord in a year and a half. It's just very weak, it frays and breaks for no apparent reason. If I would have known I was going to have to pay $80.00 each time this thing breaks (of which I just bought one 2 months ago) I would have never bought this computer!!!!

The apple store keeps telling me it's my fault, but I beg to differ. They should make their products better. I am furious that I have had some of my electronic cords for more than 7 years without any problems, and only 1.5 years into owning an apple product I am purchasing my third cord! This is infuriating, and I urge you to not buy an apple laptop until they have resolved this weak cord issues.

THEY OBVIOUSLY AREN'T LISTENING TO WHAT THEIR CUSTOMERS HAVE TO SAY, so why support a company that doesn't care about their customers???!!!????!!

I'm about to buy my THIRD power adapter since buying my laptop in 2008. This is a horrible product and really needs to be re-structured, or at least lower the price. I'd expect this for $30-40, but $80? I'm a full time student, I can't afford to keep replacing this.

    What a rip off

    • Written by

I bought this power adaptor in late November of 2012. It stopped working a week ago. This is my third adaptor for the same macbook. I am very gentle with my power adaptors and they all break after a few months. It is extremely flawed. It is ridiculous that I have to pay for another power adaptor because the previous one did not last longer than 6 months. I have no choice but to go and buy a fourth $79 power adaptor. Redesign the power adaptors already!

    Dead

    • Written by from hialeah

I bought my Macbook Pro 1 year & 3 months ago. The charger that came with it has frayed and melted close to the power adapter. I was able to position it in a certain way to charge, but it would cause my laptop to overheat and shocked me. I have also gone through 4 iphone chargers in the past 2 years. This has never happened to my old non-apple electronics; my previous Sony lasted 6 years without needed to replace the charger. This is ridiculous; Apple chargers an arm and a leg for their products, yet the materials they use are cheap and do not last... geez I wonder why. I am so turned off. I was the biggest Apple fan and have converted so many people. Good riddance.
