Second power adaptor to go out in 6 months...come on Apple!!!

    • Written by from Vicksburg

How many bad reviews must Apple get before they will take action about these sorry power adapters!!! I will need to buy ANOTHER power adapter (3rd one) in less than 5 months! What a rip off---$79 a pop is highway robbery. I am not a happy camper about having to buy ANOTHER adapter again. I have just enough battery life to write this review. APPLE---I am not a happy camper.

    Cord keeps splitting

    • Written by from woodinville

I bought my macbook in 2010 and I have had to buy numerous chargers because the cords keep splitting and exposing the wire casing and then that breaks open. Not only that, my in my latest charger, the actual prongs in the plus broke off! Now I have to go and buy like my 4th charger and I hardly ever take my computer anywhere so it's not like it's getting beat up.

The cord design is poor quality and at $79 a charger, it's expensive to keep up. I think they should replace chargers that split at a reduced cost because it's a quality issue, not user issue.

    bad design

    • Written by from Saskatoon

    I'm on my third one.

They bend where the wire meets the connector to the computer, weakening the rubber first just below the connector. The rubber wears and then the wires start to split from being work hardened.

Surely all the smart people at Apple can do better.

Macbook Power Adapter does not last

    • Written by from Ukiah

Please, please do something to correct this. I love the MacBook computer and actually hate the power adapter. I travel with my MacBook and a power supply rarely last more than 3 or 4 months. I have had my MacBook pro 13 for several years and I have learned to keep a power supply on hand for emergencies. Once they get more than a couple of months old I know it is time for it break. They are just not durable at all. For such a nice laptop you would think a bit more engineering would have been done the power supply too. This is by far my biggest complaint about the MacBook. I have spend enough in replacement power adapters to be able get me a new PC laptop. By the way my comparable PC Laptop that I also use has the original power supply on it. It is over 3 years old.

    Poor Quality

    • Written by from Augusta

I'm currently on my third charger. The design of this charger causes them to break too easily. Apple needs to come up with a better design.

Chargers falling from the sky like dead pigeons...

    • Written by from Winnipeg

I love the fact that my ~2010 MacBook is still in amazing working condition -- this is the longest lasting laptop I've ever had.

The fact that I have chargers from newer MacBooks of mine, as well as separately purchased chargers breaking at their current rate is a huge failure in my opinion -- the quality of these chargers is not nearly representative of the quality of the rest of the Apple product line, and that needs to be fixed.

Hope this (apparently well-known quality issue) is taken care of promptly.

    Disappointed!

    • Written by from Brooklyn

Absolutely disappointed with the quality of this product. Power cord defrayed near the connector and right before the adapter. After smoke emitted from one of the aforementioned locations I discontinued using the cord. This is my second power cord and it has same problem as the first. Please improve the quality.

    Garbage

    • Written by from Richardson

For less than 1 year that's my 3rd one. 2 other are dead. I appreciate Apple's customer service though - they replace the adapters without any questions.
The magnetic connector is gimmicky and unreliable too.

Not sure what people are doing to their chargers but...

    • Written by from Pleasant Grove

I'm not sure what people are doing to their chargers but mine works great! I had the same charger for my MacBook Pro that came with it when I purchased my mac in early 2012. I just had to purchase a new one about a month ago because I left mine on an airplane and I haven't had any issues with it. I throw it in my bag with all my books, tablet, and laptop, I even wrap the cord around it when I pack it up and haven't had any issues. I love the magnetic attachment because it last longer than those you plug in. It is expensive but then again when did Apple ever claim to sell things cheap?

    Worst Laptop Charger

    • Written by from Spring

I used to be a PC user and I've never had to replace a charger until I bought a MacBook Pro. The charger that came out of the box was too short so I would always trip over it. As a result, one of the outlets in my apartment no longer works. Today, I noticed that one of the mental prongs is bent so the charger no longer fits into the wall. I went to the Apple Store and all I needed to replace was the part with the metal prongs but that wasn't an option so I ended up spending $85 (including tax) to buy the 60W MagSafe Power Adapter. This adapter comes with a longer cord that will hopefully prevent me from tripping and breaking another outlet/power adapter.

    Please redesign

    • Written by from Tuscaloosa

I am a college student and I carry my laptop with me everyday. This is the third charger that I am going to have to buy in the last 4 years. Please redesign the thickness of the cable coming from the charging brick. It has been the downfall of all of my chargers.

    Terrible chargers

    • Written by from Debrecen

I bought a mid-2012 13" MacBook Pro as soon as it was released. The charger that came with it started to have contact issues within a years then it completely broke. The one I bought as a replacement started to act weird after 6 months, but I was able to use it until now. So I have started to use my 3rd charger but I wouldn't like to continue this trend: to get a new charger for $100 every 10 months.

So far I didn't have any problems with the wear of the rubber cover ob the chords. But since I have had 2 chargers with contact issues so far, I don't think this is a coincidence. Apple should really redesign these chargers or improve the build/material quality.

    Here we go again

    • Written by from Lindenhurst

This is now the 3rd maybe even fourth charger that I'm buying. They all have the same fatal flaw: the rubber casing wears out, exposing the inner wires. Taping it with electrical tape can only help for so long. Eventually, even that doesn't work and I end up back here. I wish they'd come up with a better design. Perhaps making them out of paracord might make them more flexible and less likely to break. Apple, you should be ashamed to sell a product with so many negative reviews!

Amazing adapter, never failed on me

    • Written by from Richmond Hill

My Macbook Pro 13" 2012 is my first Mac, and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the power cord. It's design is ingenious and the magnet is super useful (strong enough not to fall out all the time, but weak enough to fall out when needed. This is unlike the *new* MagSafe 2 which took a step back in history and uses the old useless easily breakable T style connector). The L design is absolutely fabulous as I can have the cord coming out the back of my Mac or along the side. I've has my mac for 2 and a half years now and I have NEVER had a problem with the cord. No deteriorating, no breaking, it's flawless and much better than any cord I have ever seen. I have NO IDEA how all these other customers manage to break their cords, for I couldn't even if I tried.

Outrageously expensive product that needs fixing!!!!

    • Written by from Toronto

I am so angry with the power adapter of MacBook Pro. It is a serious issue and the Apple needs to fix it. It is ridiculous to purchase the adapter for $100 in Canada. I am a grad student and my income isn't that generous to spend it for an adapter every year. I had to buy the third adapter within less than 4 years. And stop forcing me to rate this product when I am not even writing a positive feedback.
