    Huge Fail! Very Frustrating!

    Over the last 7 years my wife and I have bought 3 macbooks. With each computer I had to purchse a new charger within a year of purchase and now my charger is dead for my macbook pro retina. This is ridiculous! I will not buy another laptop from Apple until they change this or until they give free replacements! I am a huge apple fan but this just should not happen.

    Apple needs to replace these bad cords!

    Power adaptor

    I am sooooooo angry! I am out the door to buy my fourth charger in 4 years!!!!!! 4X80 Apple!!!!!!! Not cool. Not cool at all. I have a very old iPod and it still works. I have my iPhone and it still works. Why can't my laptop charger be very old and still work???? You guys should seriously consider giving us something in return, for being such idiots and keep buying these very expensive and not good quality power chargers.

    Rubber jacket on cord?

    The electronic part of the power supply itself has given me no problems for the three of four years I have owned the 13 inch Mac. My only complaint with it is that the jacket of the cable that appears to be made of a natural rubber which breaks down when it is exposed to the oil found in some hand creams. The jacket is coming off the cable in chunks exposing the spiral shield. I am curently looking for some heat shrink tubing that will slide over the MagSafe connector and shrink down to cover the damages section of the cable.

    One possible suggestion would be to make the cord replaceable with connectors on both ends of the cable and the power supply module. One other review suggested using the MagSafe connector on the power supply and the Macintosh ends of the cable. This would work well.

    This charger is the worst piece of electrical equipment I have ever used. To put it into perspective, if you use your macbook for about 3-4years, the money spent on chargers will nearly equal the price of an entry-spec macmini. Unbelievable.

    Do not last

    I have gone through TWO of these chargers in the almost three years I have had my MacBook Pro. It is ridiculous how quickly they break and stop working. Apple really needs to rethink their design because after already paying $1000+ for a computer it is ridiculous to no have a charger that lasts.

    Stopped working when it got the tiniest scratch on it.

    The last charger I had for my macbook (T style charger) lasted me a solid five years. Five years of being nipped by the recliner in it's way down, and of being attacked rather prejudicially by my cats. After that charger died, I spent a hard earned $80 on this new one. After being nipped by my recliner ONCE, the charger died faster than my brother would in the Hunger Games. Now I have to spend another $80+ to get a new charger. Suffice to say I hate this charger and never want to buy one like this again. I would get one again (and not go PC) if these power cords were stronger and more durable to real life bumps and bruises.

    DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY

    I cannot even begin to explain how frustrated I am with this charger. These chargers are the absolute WORSE. My first one heated up and burned the wire and I was simply just trying to charge my computer to 100%. The second one did the same exact thing. They were both after a year of purchase. So now $160 dollars later, I have no charger. Not really helpful for someone that uses their laptop for work! Please don't waste your money and Apple, please figure out how to repay your customers!

    Ok I'm literally writing this review to make sure Karen M's comment below doesn't go unnoticed. Titled "please try this before buying a new adapter" i tried exactly what she said when my Magsafe's light didn't turn on and wasn't charging my MacBook Pro. FIRST MAKE SURE THE CHARGER IS UNPLUGGED FROM THE WALL AND YOUR MACBOOK. then i took used a small screwdriver and gently pressed down on each of the prongs. They're springy and delicate so take care. I then reconnected and the light turns on! Who know, it may still die off in the near future but for now it looks okay... Thanks Karen M from PaloAlto!

    poor design

    Was surprised that this is such a common problem for the Apple charger. I am very careful with my adapter as I work with sound cables all the time and know how fragile those can be. I noticed a few days ago that the cord was fraying at the connection point. Today, it got so hot, it burned me when I touched it, and when looked down, there was smoke coming out from the connection and could have started a fire if I had walked away from it. Not good Apple! I spent some hardworking money for this product. Hopefully I can get this post in before the charge completely runs down on the computer in a few minutes. Now I hope to be able to get another charger before I head out of town tomorrow. Not happy that this is such an issue for so many folks and nothing has been done about this. Very disappointing. I don't even want to give it any stars for a potential fire hazard

    Terrible design

    I've gone through at least 3 of these over the last 5 years. I have used a Lenovo laptop at work for the past 9 years and NEVER had to replace the power adapter.

    Despite the great advance that is the MagSafe connector, it is completely negated by the poor design of the wire-to-connector and wire-to-transformer connections.

    This item is overwhelmingly panned by users and yet the basic design has not changed. I try to convert my family to OSX but when they see me spend $240 on power adapters on top of the already high price of entry for a Mac, they get pretty apprehensive. Get with it Apple. This su*(s.

    Extremely Poor Design. Please fix this issue!

    I am on my 3rd charger for my macbook pro!! Such poor design and quality that the wires keep shredding and falling apart at the attachment ends. Unacceptable from an apple product!!

    Very very poorly designed

    I really love your product. I have your iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and macbook pro. I am a huge apple fan. But let me be honest with you, your adapters is terrible
    I bought the laptop 1 year and a half ago, but I have already bought 2 adapters. Including the one given when bought the computer, that's 3 for 18 months. For an adaptor that costs 90 dollars each, I really expect it to work for more than 6 months. I used to have a thinkpad. I use the adaptor more often because that laptop is really powerful and the battery isn't good enough. But I never bothered to check the price for the adaptor because for the whole 2 years I used that, there was never a problem except it's heavy, but buying a new one really doesn't change that. But I just checked that out of curiosity, it costs around 60 dollars, which is not much cheaper, but considering the time I used that for, it is definitely much cheaper and much more pleasant.
    I don't know how is the new adaptor but this is definitely a poor design. You really should work that more for the further generations of adaptor.

    Never last more than a year!

    I purchased my Macbook in March 2011. That is 3 years and 3 months ago. I just ordered my FOURTH 60W MagSafe Power Adapter in that time. The original that came with the laptop lasted about six months and this is my THIRD replacement. Fortunately, my APPLECARE policy covered the first three, but this last one was not because my APPLECARE expired 90 days ago.

    In general I have been very pleased with my purchase of my first Macbook and have had very few problems with it, but I (and it seems several thousand other reviewers) cannot say the same about this product. Since I live more than 50 miles from the nearest Apple Store, replacement requires several days to accomplish, not to mention the $80 plus tax. Because this "accessory" is essential to charge the Macbook battery, I would hope that Apple's famous engineering and design staff would spend time to develop a more durable power adapter. It is the only area where Apple laptops fall short in comparison to their PC based competition. But Apple customers pay more for quality and we didn't get it in this case. You can and should do better.

    I've replaced my charger 4 times in 4 years. At $80 each time, this is especially frustrating. Apple, please make a better charger, or reduce the price! Seriously!

    I have had to replace two adapters in the past 6 months

    Come on Apple - you are known and respected for your lap tops. I have been a loyal customer since 1985 (!) and always trusted the Apple brand. However my recent experience with the l-shaped power cords for the 13 " Macbook Pro has been highly disappointing and frustrating. From the reviews by other customers I read on just the first page I can see we are all disgusted with the quality and price. Twice this year the prongs for the magnetic connection have broken off! I can connect them for awhile but then the connection starts to fail and I have to grit my teeth and replace the device.

    Surely Apple could reengineer the power adapter so that it does not fray, burn, fall apart as is reported by so many loyal customers. Paying almost $90 to replace it is wearing on my patience as well as confidence that Apple stands behind its products. I would appreciate it if customer support would contact me regarding the issue.

    Bad Quality

    I absolutely love Apple products but there is obviously a problem with the chargers when there is this many negative reviews. I, along with every person I know who owns a MacBook, and most everyone who wrote reviews have had their chargers break. The charger itself overheats and stops working. Before my cord completely stopped working the cord ripped at the end, then quickly ripped all the way down, leaving wires exposed/fraying and rubber like dust everywhere my computer charger went. I am not rough on my charger and did nothing to it to make it tear. It is not fair to charge $80 for something that will consistently keep breaking.
    Different issue but I have also had problems with my phone/ipod chargers.
    Please re-design your chargers!

    My MacBook Pro isn't even three years and I'm on my third charger. For such an expensive charger, it is ridiculous that Apple hasn't created a longer lasting product. Very disappointing product.

    Break frequently

    My first one broke, due to the design of having to twist the cord around to store it. I bought a second one and now that one has broken as well in less than a year for no apparent reason. It is ridiculous to charge so much for such a defective item. If they are going to continue to design or build these so they break at least once a year, they need to charge much less for them. This is the first time I've been seriously disappointed by Apple.

    3 frays

    I'm careful with my cord, this is my second one (first stopped working out of the blue, but no frays).

    My cord is 3 years old, and it was a brand new replacement. The plastic sleeve broke in 3 spots right by the magnetic head. I guess I have to buy a new one, because it finally stopped charging the computer tonight. Not exactly good timing as I need this computer for school and work. Apple please contact me about this.

    I do like the magnetic part.

    The self clip can tear the cord as well.

    I know I expected better, the computer has always been great.
