    Four years and counting...

    • Written by from CENTENNIAL

I have had my MacBook and this cord four four years with no problems but I treat it with the care I treat my computer. I wrap the cords loosely and store in a separate storage bag. I recently bought a second cord to leave at home when I take my computer somewhere. It is stiffer and more difficult to wrap but I assume the change addresses the earlier problems. Treat the least of your accessories with care and you won't have to replace them.

    Magsafe Charger

    • Written by from Mount Vernon

I love my 13 inch macbook pro. I've had it for five years, and it still runs faster than this dell for which I am writing this review. The only trouble I've ever had with the power adapter is that sometimes the light doesn't turn on, or it will say its not charging. When that happens I just unplug it, then plug it back in. Always fixes the problem. Unfortunately, our new dog bit through my cable which is why I'm buying a new one. 5 stars on the product, 1 star for the price. (its just way to high!!!)

    Great Charger

The only reason I bought another charger was because my dog chewed off my original charger.

    • Written by from White Lake

Why all the bad reviews? I have a Mid-2010 13" MBP and my 60W Power Adapter hasn't had a hint of problem. I doubt there would be a difference between the one in the MBP box with these!

Reports of my lack of quality have been greatly exaggerated

    • Written by from Orem

I have owned three Macbook magsafe power adapters. They have lasted quite well. The first one had issues with the connection where it was pulled out of the wall. That one was of poorer quality. However, my last two have lasted quite well, and the magnetic aspect of the adapter is fantastic. It has saved my computer many times by simply releasing instead of pulling the computer down.

I think there is still room for improvement, but they are overall the best adapter on the market because of how nice the magnetic aspect is.

    Solid and Reliable!

    • Written by from Woodinville

I work in an enterprise IT environment with hundreds of MacBook Airs/Pros and so naturally I see quite a few of these things. I have seen a couple outright fail, and a couple cases of frayed cords, but for a very large machine deployment this is fairly astounding... great design and excellent build quality. Don't step on it and these guys will last a while.

    2 Years and going

    • Written by from Mississauga

I am unsure what everyone is complaining about, and how some people managed to go through 3 power adapters. You guys are clearly using it wrong or abusing it.

I have had my Macbook along with adapter for 2 years and everything works just perfectly. The adapter has gone through a lot of travelling and damage but still works great.

I travel to and from school everyday and my adapter comes along with me. The chord has been tripped over numerous times in classes, I am surprised everything is still working tbh.

    MagSafe Power Adapter

    • Written by from Kissimmee

This is a great product, I don't know why so many people have issues with their chargers because I've had mine since May 2010 and I trip over it all the time and yet it still functions perfectly. Also, my brother has had his macbook since 2008 using the same MagSafe Power Adapter. My best friend also has had his macbook pro since 2007 and uses the same charger and has no difficulties. So overall fantastic product!

My wife and I both have 5 year old 60W MagSafe Power Adapters. They both work fantastic and they get used a ton! I use my computer enough that my current battery (which is not the original) has almost 1000 charge cycles on it. Don't yank the charger out of the MagSafe port by the cord. It's a safety feature, not a lazy feature. Take care of your expensive machine.

    Works Great!

    • Written by from Pooler

I have never had a problem with the magsafe charger. It has worked great for over 2 years on my newest MBP and 6 years for my 1st generation MBP. I am buying a second one so I can keep one at home and one at the office. Great product.

Works, and still working after 3.5 years

    • Written by from Bellevue

I honestly don't know why so many people have issues with this power adapter. I always keep mine with me, whether it's at school, at home, or at a friend's house.

I never bring the extension cable with me since I've never needed to use it before, so I really just use the standard "brick". I've had my power adapter since I received my MacBook in 2008 and it still runs perfectly fine. And to tell you the truth, I don't treat this with very much care. Upon reading the reviews of how poor this product's durability is, I decided to test it myself.

Well, after 3.5 years of constant use, I have no issues with it and I plan to keep using it as I have been. No problems with the cable fraying, no problems with the cable breaking at the strain reliefs, no problems with the cable overheating, everything is just perfect.

The Best Feature of The Mac

    • Written by from Clinton Twp.

I have had at least 10 laptops in my household that have all had problems with the power adapter breaking. The most prominent example is my father tripping on his HP's power cable, and now it is all squirrelly. I am so grateful that I don't have to deal with that. And as far as everyone saying that it doesn't last; mine broke after a year and a half and the the Apple store replaced it for free (out of warranty!)

    No complaints here.

    • Written by from Forney

What is everyone else doing to their power cords that they're fraying and/or stop working? I've had mine for a year and a half with no qualms and only charge once the battery of my Mac is near dead. There has to be something reviewers are doing they're not letting on to in order to have to replace a cord more than, at most, once a year. I mean, maybe it's denial that you could do anything wrong to contribute to something not working, but some people have to understand things wear out over time. Maybe they stop charging because they're being over-used. It's expected they would fail or lose juice if they're constantly charging your Mac. I agree it is an expensive replacement, but really it shouldn't even be an issue if they're taken care of properly and stop working over a considerable amount of time.

    Part Apple Part User

    • Written by from Highlands Ranch

I purchased an early 2010 MBP 15" and the power adapter was the older "direct in" type. I got the recall notice for the adapter a few months ago, but had never had an issue with my power adapter.

I guess it's a matter of understanding power cords. My wife even struggles with them: due to the multiple wires inside the cord, you have to "train" the power cord to roll up correctly. Don't keep twisting the power cord or one of those internal wires will eventually break. Probably because two power wires cannot occupy the same space in the universe. This is common to every power cord, NOT just Apple's Mag Safe power adapters. I know people like to demand that Apple provide a product that NO ONE can break but that's just not possible. Maybe Apple should provide a training course on how to roll up the power cord?

Great adapter in my mind. Love the new 90 degree offset.

4 year old original model and still kicking...

    • Written by from Vancouver

I'm not sure what most, unhappy folks do with your power adapters. I have a 13" Mac Book Pro which I take everywhere with me (to and from for each day). Four years into it and I am still using the original 'old' style power adapter. It shows no signs of wear a tear near the magnetic connector.

Interesting comments. Thank you, as you surprised me! My three here old cord works like a trooper. At times, it gets a bit hot [after a long day and night] its expected. But, 'never as HOT as any friend's dell or HP, etc. The only reason it needs replacing, my son's pup chewed it up. ~I am sure the new one will serve me well.

    Take Care of It

    • Written by from New York

I have owned Macs up the wazoo. I have never had an adapter, of any of the many variations die on me. If yours dies it is probably your fault. The adapters cannot overcome the laws of physics. Most people treat these like they are made of iron. Sharp bends, pressure on joints, cable being pulled because it is passing underneath the laptop and it sits there for hours... etc etc etc. Take care of it. Use the brackets to wrap it and always make sure that cord is loose at all connecting points. It will not die on you. Magsafe has saved my laptop so many times... just that is worth the money.
