    Lasted long enough

    • Written by from calgary

My magsafe adaptor that came with my 2008 macbook worked fine for about 2 years until just a few weeks ago it stopped fully working and U had to fidget with it ti get it working. Now it is completely broken. I guess the life of it varies because I had used it very heavily.

    charger works well

    • Written by from Denton

I had my charger for 2.5 years until it stopped working which seems to be pretty good compared to some of these other reviews. If you want to avoid paying $79 out of pocket I would suggest getting an apple care plan.

Better than the old design so far.

    • Written by from Burlingame

I had the same problem with this charger as many people reported. The charger would randomly stop working and the only way to get it to work again was to remove the battery from the Laptop. The old "T" shaped chargers always worked but the new "L" shaped ones rarely did. Luckily there was just a firmware update for the macbook that fixed the problem. Now it works 100% of the time.
The new design seems a lot more solid than the old one. The "L" shaped connector also prevents alot of unnecessary bending of the power cord. I often use the macbook sitting on the couch. The old "T" shaped chargers would always get bent up by a nearby piilow, a poorly placed leg, or cat. The new "L" shape prevents the unnecessary bending so i'm hopeful it'll last longer than the old design.

With Typical Use -- It'll Last You Years

    • Written by from North Bergen

I don't think the average consumer who is happy with this adapter will decide to gush over it in an online review, but after seeing such a negative rating here, I have to disagree and provide my experience.

I've used this adapter everyday in tons of places and while it looks really dirty and worn, it's always worked like a charm. Design wise -- it's a thing of beauty with the bulk of it near the connection point and the ability to wrap the cable and clever clip on piece to keep the loop together.

I don't know how everyone else is using this adapter, and I'm sure there are always a few duds for one reason or another, but I'm super happy with durability here.

People complain about a quick snap or a weak hold, but isn't that the whole point of the magsafe system?? -- To have a connection that's manageable (with one hand in the dark! ) while not strong enough that a trip over the adapter cable will send your macbook pro flying?

this could be why their breaking..

    • Written by from Rancho Cordova

We are dealing with machines here! Of course it's going to break WHEN YOU DONT TAKE CARE OF IT. I've had my charger for over 2 years with no sign of a malfunction. I've made sure to take really good care of it, by not dropping it! leaving it in your car near direct sunlight, nor leaving it anywhere where it could be exposed to extreme low temperatures.

This implement cannot protect itself, you have to care for it....
It will not last if you treat it like loose change.

but i will agree, they are expensive to replace! and should be lowered if you were to bring back one that did happen to break within the last 30 days.

Great overall design, pros and cons vs previous version

    • Written by from New York

I've always thought this overall design is really excellent, the best power brick design out there in all the details. All the way down to making the cable that goes to the computer as thin as possible to save space and letting you plug the adapter straight into the wall if you choose, it seems as if Apple made every millimeter count. And I've never had any reliability problems with mine-- you just have to take some reasonable care not to abuse it, in my experience (though others' experiences may differ).

This latest version, though it has the 60 watts needed for the Macbook and Macbook Pro 13", uses the horizontal connector needed to properly fit the Macbook Air, and maybe that connector style is less prone to damage too. It also looks nice when plugged into the Macbook Pro, kind of a tiny design triumph. The previous version, though it did work with the Macbook Air, had a connector that wouldn't let the Air sit flat (you would need to prop it up on a book or something). I like that I can keep this adapter in the kitchen and use it with either my Air or with my Pro when I bring it home from the office. (Of course, if you only have a Macbook Air, you may as well get the 45 watt adapter which is smaller than this one.)

However, this latest version for some reason uses a somewhat less flexible cable from the power adapter to the computer compared to the previous version, which is a little regrettable. Hopefully they did it to improve durability not to cut costs.

    Great redesign !!!

    • Written by from jackson

I am the owner of several Macbooks. Those that I do not use currently, I have given my children. We have broken at least 6 power adapters. The original power adapter was terrible. The original power adapter was I feel cheaply made and was a poor design that was the weak link in a powerful laptop computer. The new design feels more substantial. Although it looks very similar, the feel of the adapter is different. The materials seem to be sturdier in some respects. The adapter itself is no longer at an angle and is parallel to the laptop itself. This change I feel helps to relieve much of the stress that was applied to the adapter hence the premature failure of the adapter. If you are in line for a new adapter, try it you just might like it.

    Very small, very useful

    • Written by from West Hurley

Very small. I would recommend buying an 85W if you are replacing as it can charge both the macbook and the macbook pro. It costs the same so there is no reason to get one over the other. I like this for my macbook because of its small size and the magsafe end improvement is great. I wish the aluminum end was covered in some type of plastic because it contains nickel metal. I am allergic and this causes significant trouble as I can not touch the end. I was forced to buy a macbook as well because of this problem.

Hopefully someday apple will offer an aluminum or titanium laptop which can be classified as nickel free for those who suffer from the sensitivity or allergy.

Great Aesthetically but could be more ergonomic.

    • Written by from Eagan

It really does look cool. It doesn't just jet out of the charge port and there are two directions that your Macbook (Pro) could wear it. It comes off pretty easily, though so I think it could use a bit of a redesign. Probably the only reason I bought it, is that my old adapter died and I my Macbook wasn't under warranty any more.

    Pleased with the new design

    • Written by from Seal Cove

I had to order a new laptop because the one I had been using was interfering with the t.v. (it's what I get for buying a cheap one somewhere else). I ordered it yesterday afternoon and it was shipping out last night (well before the 24 hour estimate they said it would be shipped in) and I got it today. I like the new design, especially the "L" shape that plugs into the laptop. At first it wouldn't charge the battery, I even tried switching the cord that goes into the outlet and that wouldn't work. I finally decided to try taking out the battery and putting back in and after I did the cord works great. If anyone has a problem with the adapter not charging when you use it for the first time, simply take the battery out put it back in and that should solve the problem.

Good Quality of build and design

    • Written by from Cupertino

I like these series design and durability, because after almost 4 years of use, the quality of body and white color of the charger are still the same as the first day, this is what I love about Apple products.

Not sure why people are having issues.

    • Written by from Blaine

I own several Apple power adapters for machines we own, and the only way that these power adapters "don't last" is when people mistreat them. I constantly see people unplugging these power adapters by pulling on the cord, and not the plug. I also constantly see people wrapping the cable tightly around the brick -- DO NOT DO THIS! Leave an inch of slack before you wrap up the power cord! Never in 3+ years of using these power adapters have I ever seen them fail as badly as what people have shown me. It's not a craftsmanship issue, it's just plain abuse and neglect. I see proof of neglect all the time, not just in Apple power adapters, but in PC notebook power adapters as well. Same type of failures. Also, people shouldn't be complaining about a $79 price tag when the Mac that they paid for was $1199. Come on, seriously? Do you people have a job, or something? The only thing I don't like about this power adapter is the little plug that connects to the brick. I will never use that thing. Otherwise, a perfectly fine AC adapter.

    Great adapter

    • Written by from VOORBURG

Got this adapter with my Late 2008 Macbook. It's keeping my MacBook alive for over 40 months now. Lately ,since about 1-2 weeks now, it sometimes won't connect properly with the MacBook. I just pull it out and back in and it works. Besides that awsome adapter.

Great Charger!-- Not sure why people are complaining

    • Written by from Livermore

So I have two of these chargers. One at home and one in my bag at all times. People must be really rough with the charger to have all the problems they are stating. I use one or the other each day, and have absolutely no problems. I always connect and disconnect the charger with the metal tip, and not by pulling on the cord.

So I have no problems with cords fraying, or any of the other problems people have stated.

I gave it 4 stars, as the one I have in my bag is starting to look a bit dirty, and I cannot get rid of the stains...

Except for that no issues with either of them

the product works, the users don't

    • Written by from Waxhaw

I've been on the same macbook and same charger for 4 years. The product works great but you need to be smart about it. If your first charger broke pretty quickly, then expect every replacement to follow suit. What makes this product fail is the bending of the wire near the magsafe connector, which leads to fraying of the wire. To fix this issue, try not to bend your charger so much at the connector. Even after being cautious, after 3 years, mine started fraying at the connector. I simply used a bunch of electical tape and a small styrofoam piece to straighten out that part and conceal the fraying wires. The charger still works, except the orange/green light doesn't come on anymore. Considering the little button on the side tells if the computer is charging or charged, I don't really care about the orange/green light not working.

    Early '08 Macbook

    • Written by from Setauket

It is true that this charger does work with older 2008 macbooks; however, it is likely that the charger won't work initially. For the older macbooks an update is required for this charger to work. Takes all of 5 minutes to get the thing working. All in all, not too many problems after installing the update.

    Ive had no problem

    • Written by from San Diego

I read many of the other reviews and I really don't know what the others are experiencing. Ive had my original charger for almost 2 years and I have no fraying or damage whatsoever. Keep in mind, I have been VERY rough with it. It spends most times in my carpeted room but other times its being dragged down marble stairs and being moved from two different houses and being tripped over. The metal charger at the end is scratched a bit, but only from my own fault. Everything is intact and I have no overheating or charging problems. GOOD JOB APPLE.
