Aaargh! Another dead adapter, another $80

    • Written by from Oakland

What is wrong with Apple? Thousands of engineers developing great products and they can't build a reliable power adapter? I'm really disgusted. Obviously Apple could care less about its customers. Our newly dead adapter lasted less than a year. Zero stars.

    surprise surprise!

    • Written by from Mississauga

I know everyone that reads this will find it an utter surprise that I think this power adapter is terrible! I'm not going to reiterate what everyone says but as I sit her and write this review, I am staring at the black electrical tape that is wrapped around half of my adapter cord. Honestly, Apple you have some beautiful and functional products and I love them BUT for shame, providing such an utter, cheap and breakable adapter to people who spend $1000+ on a macbook. When does it get to the point you actually bother to LISTEN to the hundreds of thousands of complaints about this and FIX THIS DEFECTIVE PRODUCT???

    Guess What?

    • Written by from Columbia

Not that this review is any different then the thousands of others, but I need to vent. My power cord is wrapped from top to bottom in electric tape because the insulation has a half-life of about a week. I try so hard to love Apple and I really do love my computer but it doesn't hold a candle to the pure rage of a battery and charging cord designed to fail in order to force people to repeatedly buy a new one. When I can afford a new computer Apple no longer exists to me. My $300 PC from middle school still has a functioning power cord almost 10 years later, is that really too much to ask from a company that charges $1,000 for a laptop?

ZERO STARS would be too generous

If you're going to give us such a shoddy, fragile charger, DON'T charge $80 for a replacement. What a effin' joke. Do either one of the following: 1) make a better charger or 2) charge $10 for a replacement.

Apple should head its head in shame for continuing to sell these faulty power cords, at $80 no less!! Why hasn't there been a recall?? Terrible product!!!!

This charger doesn't last. I have had to buy 4 chargers over the last couple of years. After reading other reviews, I am convinced this is a poor design. Upgrade this immediately, especially since it's $80 to replace and a computer over $1200 shouldn't have problems like this.

Well, my charger did last 18 months. It cracked, sparked and burnt the rubber right by the magnet. And like everyone else, 80 bux??? This is a travesty. Just glad something didn't catch fire.

    Worst Charger Ever.

    • Written by from Lake Loon

Like everyone else, my charger started fraying and there was no stopping it! I wrapped almost half of my cord in electrical tape so it could last me a little bit longer, but then it started fraying elsewhere. I'm scared this pos is going to catch on fire so off to the apple store I go! Also, the white gets quite dirty if you travel with your charger a lot.

Good Quality of build and design

    • Written by from Cupertino

I like these series design and durability, because after almost 4 years of use, the quality of body and white color of the charger are still the same as the first day, this is what I love about Apple products.

    MacBook Quality: A.......MagSafe Quality: F

    • Written by from Brooklyn

I'm on my third MagSafe in 3yrs and I need a fourth.

It's a shame Apple hasn't redesigned these yet. The terrible ratings and the amount of users who need replacements should've driven them to update it, but no luck so far. Perhaps a braided cord? Something needs to be done because spending hundreds of dollars on replacement Power Adapters, after paying a premium for the laptop itself, is just not good enough.

    Quality is utter disappointment

    • Written by from Bayside

There should be free replacements offered for these adapters but I just went to the apple store and they said I shouldn't have waited til the cable frayed to come in. NOBODY has time to be checking if their cord is intact every time they use their laptop. And quite frankly, the cord suddenly frayed one day without any provocation. APPLE NEEDS TO FIX THIS

    Oh Goodness

    • Written by from Little Rock

I have had my Macbook Pro since 2011 and I love it dearly. My sister has had her Macbook Pro since 2009. We love everything about it except for the charger. Together I would have to say that we have gone through at least 10 maybe even more chargers due to the fact that the wires come exposed constantly. We try to use them as long as possible, but once they start to spark, we are out. I don't understand.

Dear Apple: This charger and I don't get along. Make it play nice. Thanks.

    • Written by from Portland

Allow me join the ranks of those complaining about Apple going from a highly functional MagSafe Version1 to this charger. The magnetic part that connects to your computer constantly falls off. The plug that goes into the wall (at least when using the extension) randomly starts feeling neglected and refuses to charge your MacBook unless you give it some attention - in other words you have to wiggle the plug, switch outlets, unplug and plug back in, buy it dinner, etc. If you, like me, assume that simply plugging in both ends of the charger will result in charging, think again. You also need to ask very nicely, be patient, and catch the charger on a good day.

I'm not really writing this review to dissuade customers from buying the product, since you don't have any alternative. Hopefully though, our friends in Cupertino will notice that this charger is inundated with one-star reviews and perhaps something's wrong...

    Total Rip off

    • Written by from Bakersfield

I so thought I was the only person disgusted by the MagSafe chargers. "Horrible quality" just seems too nice to say. Since I began using Apple computers I can't count how many chargers I have bought. I feel totally ripped off. For the amount of money their loyal customers spend toward Apple products, You would think they would use some of that money to upgrade the quality of their chargers. Smh, I feel totally cheated. They received this 1 star from me by default.

    Terrible Charger!!!

    • Written by from Sarasota

Wish I could this a ZERO! The charger stinks! I have to spend 80 dollars all because it has the apple logo on it? They need to look into a better way of designing this! because it is awful and flimsy! Should be more durable since it is a something that is carried around everyday for me! I'm disappointed apple....you let me down again!

    Good Design, poor manufacturing..

    • Written by from Sevierville

The idea and design of this product is way better than anything in the PC world and goes a long way to save the laptop from in advertent harm. Unfortunately it is the manufacturing that has caused it the issues. I believe that if Apple continues to turn back to US production they may be able to remedy issues like this. For those young college students who would review this product, you should have more experience in Apple and for that matter computer products before making negative comments regarding this or any other such hardware.

    Apple's Weakest Link

    • Written by from Nashville

Well, yet another one of these has died on me. This is the one piece of Apple's technology that makes me consider jumping ship for another computer manufacturer for my notebook. You make the best built pro laptops, start backing that up with a robust power supply. I'm taking time while my battery dies to write this review, it's that important for me to express my displeasure in this piece of hardware.
