    Never had a problem

    • Written by from Milwaukee

I have owned two MacBooks both with the MagSafe Power Adapters and have never had a problem in over 6 years of constant use. I like the design and appreciate that when I am occasionally clumsy and trip over the cord that it just pops out and doesn't send my laptop to the floor.

    Apple MagSafe Power Adaptor

    • Written by from Vancouver

I have been reading several reviews on here, and also have had experience with my own MagSafe adaptor, my partner's with her adaptor, her two daughter's with their adaptors, and my own 3 daughters with their adaptors. First and foremost, let us agree that these adaptors are not indestructible. They will break most commonly at the wire connection going into the MagSafe power box, or at the L or T connector. The question is really, how much care or abuse are you going to subject your MagSafe to? I have worked as an audiovisual tech for a number of years, and have taught them all to wind the cords a certain way to prevent kinking or twisting in the wire (especially after they destroyed their original chargers). Many people like to wind the cord around the two tabs provided on the MagSafe charger box, but when you do this, you put a tremendous strain on the wire which only shortens the life of the unit. Secondly, I have always emphasized not pulling on the cord to disconnect the charger, but rather grabbing the head or the MagSafe charger box. These chargers can last a number of years if you take care of them. I am still working with my original charger from 2008 - 7 years.

I have had my MacBook Pro for 4 years and not a single problem, but a few days ago the adapter stopped working, but no from oldness, but from a lightning storm. I will never leave Apple

    Wonderful

    • Written by from albany

Love Apple. After 3 years of use and abuse my charger gave out. I was going to order a replacement on line and decided that I would go to the apple store just in case it was my computer. The guy checked it out and said it was the charger.
He went and got a new one, tested it out to make sure that it worked.
I asked him how much and he said "no worries, its on us".
I have to say I felt a bit guilty, until I told a friend and they said this is standard practice with them.
I have read a lot of negative reviews, but all I have ever had from Apple is the best of the best!

looks way better with my macbook pro

    • Written by from Rowland Heights

So, I recently bought a new Macbook Pro. My friend's adapter for her macbook died and she had to buy a new one, and this one was the only one they had available, so she bought it. Because she had a hard case, this wasn't a good fit with her computer. So, I traded her my adapter for this one because it looked way cooler. There are also some very functional upsides. First, it is much harder to accidentally knock out of the port. Second, it does not overheat AT ALL which is a drastic improvement from the old ones which used to burn me when I touched them. Third, it's much slimmer and looks way better when paired with the aluminum unibody Macbooks in contrast to the white adapter, which looks dated and cheap.

Good investment. I have never had an Apple-made magsafe power adapter fail

    • Written by from Williston

I have never had an Apple-made magsafe power adapter fail.

With my first MacBook, I bought two extra power adapters to keep one plugged in at work, and two at home to keep from moving furniture all the time to reach outlets.

It's a huge convenience. It keeps the yanking and bending to a minimum.

It was a good investment, too. After many, many thousands of hours of use, I still have and use both of the extras I bought in 2007. One of them is getting a little grubby from the dog laying on it.

I also know someone who ruins one about every six months. Another person in the same household who uses his MacBook a lot has never replaced one after six years of heavy use.

They are thin but strong enough for heavy daily use with a little care. If you use them rough, expect to replace them more often.

Amazing adapter, never failed on me

    • Written by from Richmond Hill

My Macbook Pro 13" 2012 is my first Mac, and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the power cord. It's design is ingenious and the magnet is super useful (strong enough not to fall out all the time, but weak enough to fall out when needed. This is unlike the *new* MagSafe 2 which took a step back in history and uses the old useless easily breakable T style connector). The L design is absolutely fabulous as I can have the cord coming out the back of my Mac or along the side. I've has my mac for 2 and a half years now and I have NEVER had a problem with the cord. No deteriorating, no breaking, it's flawless and much better than any cord I have ever seen. I have NO IDEA how all these other customers manage to break their cords, for I couldn't even if I tried.

    Well built

    • Written by from Corfu

Ok, I've only had this product for three days now, so I can't speek for its long term duribility, but it's been great so far. The DC power connector feels much more sturdy than the previous model, but CAN block some ports (ethernet and firewire 800/mini displayport, depending on macbook/13'' pro). You can (as I do), flip it the other way so that no ports are blocked, however, this cannot be done when using a hardshell case. Still, that would be the case manufacturer's fault, and not apple's.
Also, the swappable power plugs are a huge convienence. I leave the extended one plugged in at my desk, and just swap it out for the mini plug when not there (living room, possibly school/work).
Also, some people have complained about the $79 price tag. THIS IS ACCUALLY A REASONABLE PRICE FOR A LAPTOP POWER CABLE (mostly because it also includes the 'brick' converter, which is built-in to the computer on most desktop systems).

    Power Adapter Works Superbly

    • Written by from Houston

First, I am in a wheelchair so the floor is convenient to place the laptop down while I go from my chair to my wheelchair. My adapter works well even though while moving it I stepped on the computer end and it came apart--the round head came apart from the little wires that go into your computer. It works fine because I simply pushed it back together. Why am I buying another one? Because I want to have an adapter in the living room and one in the bedroom (-:

I have been a fan of Apple since 85-86 and there have been no problems at all. FYI: I am 68, did my own graphic design business, retired and I use Apple--everyday. From desktop to laptop, about 10 computers, every new one was based upon my supposed need, and they were/are great.

    Never A Problem

    • Written by from Dallas

I recently bought a new MagSafe Power Adapter for my 2010 MacBook Pro after not paying attention and my cat chewing the cord in multiple places. I've always been confused by the negative attention, this is one of 3 MagSafe adapters I own and I've never had the issues with fraying cords so many other people mention. I don't know if I'm just lucky because I don't treat these adapters with any sort of care and I carry one with me everywhere I go. Constantly wrapping and unwrapping the cable. I would mention new adapters come with a 1year warranty which comes in handy if anything happens aside from MY CAT CHEWING THE CORD.

    No problems here

    • Written by from Wetumpka

I came on here wanting to buy a second one (to keep at work) and saw all the negative reviews. I switched from PC (before that was a Mac user until 2001), and my PC laptop power supply was much worse. I have lots of Apple devices and after two years my iPad power supply did fray, but I did mistreat it. It still works though.

I think a power supply is not something you review if it works, you only come into complain about whatever horrible thing you did to it.

    Working nicely for a year

    • Written by from Medellín

I bought my MacBook Pro 13'' exactly a year ago and reading the bad reviews of this MagSafe I was concerned it was going to fail soon. Well, by using my laptop for 3-4 hours everyday since I bought it, I haven't had any issues with the MagSafe, the battery or any other part of my computer. Many say Apple products are overpriced, but for my own experience I have no reasons to hate them and many to love them. It's a delight to use my MBP and everything works as it I bought it yesterday. Hope things keep working like they are. I don't know if my MagSafe is going to stop working tomorrow, but as for today I can only rate it 5 stars with a year of use.

    Four years and counting...

    • Written by from CENTENNIAL

I have had my MacBook and this cord four four years with no problems but I treat it with the care I treat my computer. I wrap the cords loosely and store in a separate storage bag. I recently bought a second cord to leave at home when I take my computer somewhere. It is stiffer and more difficult to wrap but I assume the change addresses the earlier problems. Treat the least of your accessories with care and you won't have to replace them.
