    Profiteer

    • Written by from SAN CLEMENTE

I love most of what Apple does, but do they really need to sell you an entire Power Adaptor when all I was looking for was the extension cord. 85 bucks for a new power cord seems a tad excessive to me.

And I agree, the product needs to be better conceived. Make the product a little more durable, perhaps make a rotating mag so you can position it however you choose, and then make it bomb-proof. I'm sick of getting nickel and dimed by this company. I've spent thousands of dollars on this company's products, music, movies, etc. over the years.

Please try this before buying a new adaptor

    • Written by from PALO ALTO

I had no idea that these adaptors had such a poor ratinguntil I came to this page. I have had my MacBook Pro around 4 years now so I guess I'm lucky I've had no issues with the adapter to this point. I just had a problem that my MacBook would not charge when I plugged the power adapter in. I read through some of the reviews here and noticed one that said to try pushing something on the prongs inside the magnetic head on the adapter that attaches to the computer as they can have issues. I tried that and it worked! My MacBook is now happily charging and I just saved myself $80...

    MagSafe Tip Not Sturdy

    • Written by from Denver

The MagSafe adapter for my 13 inch MacBook Pro (model 8,1, purchased 2011) lasted about 18 months before the rectangular metal ring at tip of cord came loose. Glued it but glue messed up the pins. Apple needs to fortify the tip better if it has not updated these adapters recently.

    Lasted five years

    • Written by from Las Vegas

Compared to my horrible Dell chargers this Apple product is wonderful . However, the cord finally wore out tonight. It could have lasted longer with some inexpensive strengthening right at the electro-magnetic connector. Not as bad as cables for the iPhone that always break within months. The mystery continues. Why so cheap, Apple?

Though the cord can be touch and go sometimes, it usually last me until my husky gives it one small bite, and its a goner. Buying my 3rd cord tomorrow. Sad day.

    Mr.Charger

    • Written by from Kotzebue

The 60 Watt MagSafe Power Adapter is good but nothing stay forever, I had this charger for about 1-2 years now maybe even more. I dislike this T-style on the little wire side, The first time I seen that I really had a bad feeling about that, that will cause me problems with the natural put away system.
"Designed to be the perfect traveling companion, the adapter has a clever design which allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage." from the apple web site.

Cord works but casing becomes frayed

    • Written by from Windsor

For the most part the L-shaped adapter works perfectly, it's lasted me two years so far since it came with the Macbook, but what I've been having issue with is the casing around the cord. The power is still carried to the computer but the plastic casing around the actual cord (not the L part) constantly is breaking apart. Maybe next time use a sturdier material than flimsy plastic because I carry my power cord with me everywhere and it seems wrapping it up with the square portion of the power cord causes it to eventually break apart. I've got more masking tape on the cord than it came wrapped in. If you want to keep selling these things for $80, maybe make sure it doesn't break apart. Many people with MacBooks are university students or working professionals who carry their Macbooks with them, we need something that can handle travel.

    more to it...

    • Written by from montreal

OK, so I've had my MacBook for over four years now and my charger just gave out today... I don't understand why people are having so much trouble with the new ones. Now that I have to buy a new one, I'm a little concerned. My charger was usually plugged in at night, while during the day, I only brought the computer with me to school. I never wrapped the cord around, as I left it loose on the floor. It honestly seems as if the quality has decreased, and Apple may not do anything about it. Why? Because we are consumers who are paying for a specific brand and we will pay whatever in order to make it work. The only way they may fix the issue is if we stop buying their products... oh! Look at the value of shares decrease.... just saying. Right now, business is through the roof... Morality is far behind......

    Stopped Working

    • Written by from Louisville

After about a year or so, my charger stopped working. Just one day when I plugged it in and left it all day, the green light would not come on and wouldn't charge. I tried everything that could be wrong. I think $80 is a little too much for a charger.

Decent but could be more heavy duty

    • Written by from Elkins

This is a pretty good power adapter. I love that you can have a longer cord if necessary and the LED light.
While moving, my power cord was put in a backpack with my 13 inch MacBook Pro. Somehow, a small slit was put into the power cord. I couldn't see any frayed wires and couldn't afford a new power adapter, so I kept using this one. A few months later a see some frayed wires, from normal wear and tear. That was two months ago. Now I am in need of a new power adapter, badly, at that. The power adapter only works if it is in one spot, if I move the cord it stops working and it takes quite some time to coax it to charge my MacBook again.
The only thing in the backpack was the power cord, my tablet with pen and mouse, and my MacBook pro. I have no clue what caused the slit in my cord but I now realize how fragile the cord really is. That slit grew bigger over time, just from transferring the power adapter from room to room.

    So-So Product

    • Written by from Chappaqua

I've only used this power cord for a few months now so I can't really attest to its endurance or fragility. It's probably the bulkiest power adapter I've ever used. I generally use my laptop at my desk but every once in a while, I do bring it along trips or to another room. This adapter is horrible for travel. The adapter needs its own big pocket to be stored in so I'm not really pleased. MAC/Apple should re-design this product for more convenient use in mind. It's also really expensive for an adapter and for its only so-so quality.

    Finally

    • Written by from Carson

Well I work in the entertainment industry and I'm still using my Macbook Pro Core Duo from 2005. I'm not sure if the quality of the adapter has since changed, but after using it day in and out since purchased, it finally went out. I have never once used the 2 prong plug, which is why I think it has lasted so long. Always use the long cord with the 3 prongs, it's grounded. I still think its overpriced, but I'm forced to purchase one because my old Macbook Pro is still kicking. Just took some upgrades and some tender love and care, but I have definitely gotten my money's worth.

    So far, So good

    • Written by from Tipp City

I have had my 13-in. MBPro since Sept of 2011. Thus far, my Magsafe power cord has lasted me, fine. Several months ago, I switched jobs and now I have to bring my Mac Book to work on most days. Because of this, I'm looking into getting an additional power cord (1 to leave at home with my dock, and 1 to take in my bag). I figure this, way I can keep one from the stress of unplugging too often (the one at home), and I'll have an extra.
I rated this at a 3 because I haven't had issues, but I know several friends who are on their 3rd cord or so. But I'm also thinking, for those on here who've said they've bought 7 or 10 of them. Why not buy 2 and leave one stationary (home) and take one mobile. At least that way, you know one of those cords wont be getting a lot of wear.
IMHO. BTW, the person who suggested having magsafe connector at both ends, brilliant idea!!

    Recall please!!

    • Written by from Brownsville

They really need to make a recall. My charger still works after 3 years however, the rubber coating has begun to turn green and peel off the metal wires inside. I never travel with this computer so I haven't mistreated it. I now have electrical tape covering the exposed wires.

    60 W MagSafe Power Adapter

    • Written by from BAINBRIDGE

The power adapter cord is flimsy near the magnetic plug. The cord should be sturdy. My cord caught fire and just so happen I was using my computer at the time. Could have been worst.

New connector plug may not work with some macbook covers

    • Written by from Jersey City

I just got the adapter as a backup for my macbook (original still works), so I don't know how well it will hold up, but it seems to be built well. The problem I encountered was that the new connector, that seems designed for the macbook air, is blocked from plugging in by the hard plastic cover that I got for it. I was able to chisel out the plastic cover enough to get it to work, but it seems a design flaw to use an L connector that hugs the mac so closely.

    It's okay

    • Written by from Brooklyn

I've had this product for over two years. It's the same one that came in my macbook pro box. Just be sure to take good care of it and don't have it plugged into an outlet for too long because you'll just be draining the power on the battery. The whole product is very fragile and I'll admit that in the two years I've owned this, I've gotten wears and tears but nothing electrical tape can't fix. I only wish this wasn't so expensive because I'll need to buy a new one soon. $80 is a bit hefty..

    Innovative

    • Written by from Atlanta

Between roommates, puppy, and the poor electrical layout of the grad students' lounge in my department, the key feature of the MagSafe - the magnetic release - has saved me enough times for it to be worth the difference in price of replacing the adapter five times. Fortunately, I've only had to replace it once. The current slim-head design seems to be much better than the previous "rectangle", as mine started to lose connection from time to time due to wear and tear after three years' use. What ultimately did my first one in though was a teething pit bull puppy. If I had one complaint about design, the adapter still runs a little hotter than I'm comfortable with.
