    Mac adapters are the worst!!!

    • Written by from Miami

My old T adapter broke after 3 years so I bought the new and improved L adapter and 2 years later it broke again. Seriously, do you really think I want to buy a new adapter every year??? You should rethink your design!!!

BTW I should be free to post my review in my own words and not being censored, because I'm not being disrespectful just stating a fact about your product!!!

    apple 60w magsafe power adapter

Terrible product. Connection does not make good contact with the computer. The fit is awkward . The original charger fit perfectly and worked well. This deserves a minus rating.

Other laptops have power adapters that outlast the computer

    • Written by from Toronto

I've had such laptops, which were otherwise inferior to this macbook.

I'm on my second power adapter since 2008 and I treat it extremely gently (but note I do travel with it about ever other day, and sometimes more). Nonetheless, the obviously-too-skinny part of the chord is cracking in multiple places now. I wrap it tightly in electrical tape. I think I will have to buy a third one before I'm ready for a new laptop.

There are good suggestions for easy fixes in these reviews (e.g. make it replaceable, and maybe let some company sell a thicker version). I'm not usually inclinded to suspect companies of unethical behavior, but for this it is the only theory I know.

Apple You need to do better

    • Written by from Frederiksted

Apple Macbook works well but this is the third power adapter i own that is not working. i am very disappointed. They need to do like HP and have a simple power cord. I'll give it a 1/4 star

    Dead already?!

    • Written by from Lees Summit

I've had my MacBook Pro for a measly 3 months and this power cord already croaked. Really?! I was very dismayed to see this has happened to so many others. I also couldn't believe the price tag for a product that is clearly not meeting customers needs! I typically love my Apple products, but this is a ridiculous inconvenience to have so soon after purchase. I am left both unimpressed and irritated.

    Nokia 3390 had a superior power adapter...in 1996

    • Written by from SAINT PETERSBURG

I still have a working power adapter from my 1990's Nokia 3390 cell phone. However, my Apple 60W MagSafe Power Adapter is no longer working, because some of the pins do not deploy and make contact with the MacBook like they should. The magnetic connection is a brilliant idea, however it was unfortunately not a good design to have such fragile spring-pins to transfer power. I will NOT be buying a replacement from Apple, I will be purchasing a replacement adapter from a 3rd party.

    Macbook charger

    • Written by from Fairfax Station

The macbook is fantastic and has served me well for five long years, but the price and quality of the power supply is absurd. The design of the macbook accessory is inherently flawed and ends up breaking every year. Surprising that a company so committed to progressive design engineers a product so unsatisfactory. If Apple expects their customers to believe they are the technology of the future, they need to focus on solutions to these basic problems that rapidly erode their prestigious reputation. If they expect me to pay $80 for another charger when this POS breaks, I'm saving my money and switching to different company.

cheaply made, too expensive to replace

    • Written by from Pittsburgh

The wire is scrawny and frays in no time. The wire shouldn't be so thin that a cat can chew through it. Whatever happened to making thick power cables that lasted years and years? The price for a replacement is criminal. Love my MBP, but shame on you Apple for this atrocity of a charge cable. I hope I don't electricute myself with my frayed cable.

LIKE FIRE HAZARDS? LOVE WASTING MONEY?

WHAT AN UNBELIEVABLE PIECE OF GARBAGE.

THE L-SHAPED ATTACHMENT SEEMS TO BE DESIGNED FOR THE CORD TO RIP OUT OF IT. MY EXPOSED CORD SHOOTS LASER BEAM SPARKS WHEN I PLUG IT IN. THAT THE WORD 'SAFE' IS USED IN THE PRODUCT NAME IS PREPOSTEROUS. IF I WANTED TO START A PAPER FIRE ON MY DESK, THE MAGSAFE WOULD BE MY FIRST CHOICE FOR GUARANTEED PYROTECHNICS.

APPLE SHOULDN'T BE ABLE TO GIVE THESE AWAY. I WISH I HAD BIGGER CAPS SO I COULD ESCALATE MY EXPRESSION OF FRUSTRATION AT THE REPLACEMENT PRICE (THOSE TWO WORDS WOULD HAVE BEEN WAY BIGGER). I GUARANTEE THIS THING IS MADE FOR $0.58 ALL IN. I WILL NOT EVEN SPEAK OF THE PRICE WE - WHO HAVE COUGHED UP THOUSANDS IN OUR COMMITMENT TO ALL THINGS MAC - ARE EXPECTED TO PAY SO OUR BIG INVESTMENT PIECES WILL CONTINUE TO FUNCTION.

IT'S CLEAR APPLE DOESN'T READ THESE THINGS SO ALL I CAN SAY IS EFF THIS. SERIOUSLY.

We are using these PSUs at our school to charge the teacher's MBPs 13" (70 in total), so we have at least 70 of these and 2/3rd of them is having the broken cable problem either at the PSU's side or the device's side. It it is not appearing to get any better.

    Nothing strange.

    • Written by from istanbul

Don't get confused about the amount of negative feedback on this adapter. It works fine. It is not rugged. Meaning it is not capable of withstanding rough handling. That means the cable too. I've realized my mistake when I've ruined the cable of my first adapter. Second adapter lasted for 6 years, and its cable is still intact. I've seen people who strengthen their cable with heatshrinks, springs and similar attachments, but 6 years of service suggests that the cable can last long without these. If you are taking your MacBook to work and back everyday, it may be a good idea to keep a secondary adapter at work, saves you from carrying your adapter and your cable from winding/unwinding twice per day. Finally, the overall negative rating of this product is IMHO because satisfied customers don't care about rating as much as disappointed customers do. After all, every MacBook user is using at least one such adapter.

    Fourth Charger and Counting...

    • Written by from marrero

I've had my MacBook for nearly six years now. for the first two and a half to three years, the charger was fine. Then one day, it just stopped working. No biggie, I thought, I'll just go to best buy and get a new one, so I did. A year later, the thing started SMOKING. When it would charge, smoke would come out of it and this burning smell. So, I bought another one. Three months in, a crackling, electric sound would come out of it every time I plugged it in and one time I even saw a spark. So. I bought another one. Just a few days ago, it just went dead, like the first one, stopped charging completely. So today. I. Bought. Another. One. Let's add that up, shall we? 79 times 4 equals 419 dollars not including tax. That's almost half way toward a macbook air. FIX IT APPLE. I'm sick of counting!

    BROKEN

    • Written by from Portland

Maybe the saying "3rd times the charm," is true, because I'm fixing to have to buy my THIRD charger for my MacBook Pro. I love love love ALL my apple products, BUT, as lovely as the products are, your chargers are cheaply made. I have to buy a new charger for my MacBook Pro every year or so, and a new iPhone charger ever 6 months. If people are going to pay so much for the products, make reliable chargers. I guess I now HAVE to spend $79 + tax & shipping, or my computer that cost over 1,000 will just sit there. So thanks.

    Poor design

    • Written by from Panama city Beach

This is the second charger that has failed me. The cord where it enters the L-shaped tip starts to degrade and eventually the wires become exposed.

This is not a result of handling.
I am very conscious of my equipment. No excuse for two failures.

Apple, take note, you are losing customers.

Worst Customer Service and Charger such a scam

    • Written by from Essex

This charger is the worst part about this computer. I have had my charger for 5 years and now it has started fraying. I had HP computers for ten years or more and the charger never frayed. I am not shelling out 80 bucks for a new one. They are cheaply made for such a high quality computer. APPLE EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED!!!!

6 years of use, and no issues. My wife has had one for almost 4 years... again, no issues. People must not be using their brains and are either bending the cords or maybe they need to plug into a power conditioner. I know tons of people with MacBooks and NONE of them have this issue. It's like anything else, they aren't indestructible. I have had so many other issues with non-Mac laptops, and you really just can't compare the products!

A charger that costs $80 to replace should not break so easily

    • Written by from Russell

It is, of course, broken, like many others out there. I mean, I like the design, I like the magnetic connection and all, but I fear this is why it broke. You see, the magnetic portion of the L connector broke off from the charging part. It's very difficult to describe, so just suffice it to say, I have to tape my charger to my computer to get it to stick at all, which is inconvenient when I want to disconnect my computer to move it somewhere. In fact, when it first broke I just superglued the magnetic part back to the connector, but then somehow the superglue wore off and the same piece came disconnected. And sometimes it still won't charge, even if I have it taped securely in. It just really stinks that a device that should be wireless is not for me, because I don't want to risk losing the placement I found that keeps the charge going, so I just always keep the cord attached, even when I have to pack up my Mac to go somewhere.

It's stressful, it stinks that it simply just broke one day (I did nothing that could have caused it to break, it just fell apart), and it stinks that I'm sitting here trying to decide whether I want to continue using scotch tape to hold my charger together or if I should shell out $80 to replace it, and just keep my fingers crossed that the next one won't break as well. I wish I could just take it to the Apple Store to get it fixed but 1. The nearest Apple Store is 2 hours from where I live (I live in Iowa. We literally have only 1 store. It's ridiculous.) and 2. I doubt they will just give me a new charger (they would likely just say the fact that I superglued it and have been taping it somehow broke the warranty agreement, even though the nearest store is a TWO HOUR DRIVE away and when it first broke I was in the middle of finals in college, and I didn't have time to just pop over to Des Moines and back).

It's all just a tough, annoying, frustrating situation, but clearly Apple doesn't care that much, since there's 1700 other people who took the time to leave a 1 star review (and I'm sure there's plenty more who've had issues who simply didn't take the time to leave a review) and yet there's still nothing being done to make the chargers satisfactory.
