    Awesome!!! Couldn't be more pleased!!!

    • Written by from Somerset

I'm loving my airport express. My current modem/router combo was constantly dropping the Wi-Fi signal. So I bought this airport and bridged it to my modem and haven't had a problem since.. Couldn't be more pleased. It has great range and even reaches upstairs and in my basement..

Best wifi router on the planet with an affordable price

    • Written by from San Francisco

This adorable Wifi router known as AirPort Express, is an exceptional performer that is appropriately priced for its size and function. Due to living in a condo that shares the network with a bunch of users using different wifi routers and networking devices, this little wifi router works extra hard to give you the accessibility you need to go on the internet and also to maintain connection through other devices located in the room, for example like this wireless switch that operates through the wifi network in order to turn on and off the light in the bedroom. Neat and easy set up, provided by Apple technical service representative who would assist you with steps to help you configure your wifi router through the network set up so you can get the best results. And the price is just a great reason why this router is a great start up for those who are new to the network setup. I got this wifi router through Apple after ridding the router provided by Xfinity(Comcast). I do recommend you trying this little AirPort Express to see for yourself how affordable it can be.

    Sometimes it works!

    • Written by from Los Angeles

I've had this little cube for several years now and while streaming music using AirPlay from my MacBook Pro works pretty well most of the time, in the past few months (and I suspect since the release of iOS8) streaming music over AirPlay from my iPhone is just a non-starter. It'll work for maybe 4-5 minutes and then the connection between the phone and the AirPort Express will go down. I know for sure the home network is not the issue. Gonna have to look to other products that support AirPlay, because sadly, on this one, Apple has delivered a doozy. Don't buy.

    Airport Express Stinks

    okay, but limited

    • Written by from Carrboro

Note: I have a Windows 7 PC. I was tired of plugging my computer/phone directly into my stereo to use the speakers. In iTunes ONLY, the AirPort worked and I was able to play music wirelessly. I listen to a lot of music online, though, and the AirPort will ONLY play from iTunes, at least on a PC. There's a fix that will let me play from other programs (ex., browsers), but it's a 3rd party program--Airfoil--and costs $30. Even with that program, I can't use the AirPort for video (Netflix, etc.) audio because there's a delay and there is NO SOLUTION for PC yet (there is an Airfoil video program for OS that claims to fix the delay). These limitations weren't clear in the product descriptions or reviews, so I'm posting this as a caveat. The idea of the AirPort is great, but it's utility is limited. I'm disappointed in the lack of available software for it, and that it didn't come with software that would make it more generally compatible. Not being able to use it when streaming video is particularly annoying, as that was one of my primary motivations for trying it.

    Not good for wi-fi connections

    • Written by from HONOLULU

After all these years, you would think that Apple would be able to get it together. This product works occasionally. And when it does (about half of the time at best) there's a lag in the connection. I've gone through three Mac computers, our household has had nearly 20 iPhones, we've had three different iPads and two airport expresses and always the same problem with our devices. Now I have a brand-new Mac mini, an iPhone 6+ and a new airport express and I still have to turn off Wi-Fi on my phone nearly ever time because it connect to the Internet via airport express.

125V Only! USB port is such a disappointment!

    • Written by from Toronto

I used it for a few days, the way to manage my network, and access everything over it is totally amazing. I use it to extend my Wi-Fi network, it does a great job, and remains easy to find on airport utility.
However, the problem is that, the USB port provided only gives you the power to transfer information, not to get it going without power source! And please don't get it for travels. The power cord says 125V at the back! Don't plug it with higher voltage!
The last thing I found annoying is that, when I was syncing with iTunes, which doesn't usually work with my old router[it's so bad]. Now, I can do that, while I'm doing that, the AirPort Utility doesn't allow me to change anything on the base station. Perhaps it's protecting my data, but AirPort Utility during that process will make it seem like the base station is not even within the range. Just don't forget the base station, everything should be fine.

After a lightening storm took out my trusty Cisco router I decided to give the Airport a shot. This was so simple to setup, I did so from my iPad. The internet is fast and it works with all my devices with no problem. I highly recommend this product especially if you want less headache!

    Apple airport express (not impressed)

    • Written by from Nibley

It worked good at first but now It's very frustrating, only works about 1/2-3/4 of the time. You have to hit it just right for it to work, I have to take my phone off wireless most of the time in order for me to connect. In fact That is how I am writing this review (no wireless, using cellular). What good is that? We only have 4 devices connected at our house, so it is not the number of devices. Ready to go back to my old wireless device. Also, does not work with a VPN connection to my work, I've had our IT guys try and try to get it to work and it doesn't. And we have an Apple certified tech at our work and could not get it to work.

    Works awesome to extend extreme

    • Written by from Long Valley

I just purchased one today and set it up to extend my 5ghz network from my extreme. It took 2 minutes to setup and that included the time to find the perfect spot. Before I put this in ,the 5 ghz only went to about 25% of my house and with the express w/extender setup, the 5ghz now covers my entire house which is great for all of our apple products. Highly recommend and super thrilled.

    Why a power cord!

    • Written by from Earlysville

Mostly Apple gets it right. However, removing the option of directly plugging in the AP extreme into a wall outlet, is just plain wrong. The AP extreme is a small device, < 4" square and weights 8.5 oz. The power cord overwhelms this little guy! Anybody know of an OEM that makes a wall adaptor for it?

Worked until iOS 8 and now does not

    • Written by from New Westminster

Was great and then ios 8 came along and now it never shows up in the AirPlay list. Basically makes this thing a brick taking up space. If I reboot it it will show up for like 5 minutes but the odds of having it play an entire song are pretty slim.

So it basically blows. Gave it two stars only because I have fond memories of when it did work. Those were good days.

    Excellent Network Extender

    • Written by from Chicago

I am not big on writing product reviews. Other than this one and one for the Airport Time Capsule, I have only written maybe three others. A product has to really impress me for me to make the effort to write a review. Also, I will admit I was an Apple hater until 2011 when I got my first iPhone. Last year I replaced my PC with a Mac Air and I’m fully hooked!

I used the AirPort Express to extend my network. Works like a charm! Only word of caution, ignore the instructions provided in the Support section on this site. Just make sure the Airport Express is with in range of your Extreme, Time Capsule, or Express base station; plug it in; start Airport Utility and click extend network.

    Instant Solution to My Problem

    • Written by from Duvall

I've been having trouble for over a year getting a clear, strong data transfer rate between my Airport Extreme in the office and my Apple TV in the family room. Most days, movies would have to buffer for up to an hour or even longer before they were ready to play.

I tried every quick fix I could think of: relocating the router, a wireless repeater, and even a powerline ethernet adapter. Nothing seemed to help much. I was on the verge of switching to a different router in the hope of getting more broadcast power. I resisted resorting to the Airport Express due to the cost, but none of the cheaper fixes were working.

It only took about a minute to connect it up and about another minute to configure the Express to my network and suddenly my Apple TV finally works the way it's supposed to. Hi-res video is virtually instantaneous. No buffering problems at all.

What made it totally worth it to me was the seamless set up. I can't count the number of hours I've spent troubleshooting my other solutions. But with the Express, my problem was fixed within 10 minutes of opening the box.

Great Range Increase and Easy Setup

    • Written by from Stuart

I was getting frequent drops on my home Comcast WiFi system. After reading the reviews on the AirPort Express I decided to purchase one. I noticed Apple had a refurbished unit for $72 including shipping, so I decided to purchase it. In the meantime I had hoped that the Comcast tech that was scheduled to come and check out my network would arrive after I received the Airport Express. Sure enough, about 30 minutes prior to the tech arriving my Airport Express was delivered by FedEx. I waited until the tech arrived to connect it just to see what his reaction would be. He saw I had purchased the Apple product and said it would really be an improvement to my internet and it would be more stable. Sure enough, the ease of installing it and the performance and range really did improve. You must first have a modem as this is only a router, but I decided to still keep my Comcast modem/router unit until I get another single modem which I presume will be a Motorola Surfboard which he recommended. My main goal at the beginning was to get back up and running again. I recommend this product to any one wishing to improve their internet service.

    Airplay audio unreliable

    • Written by from Ottawa

Purchased the airport to stream audio to my stereo. It works for a few minutes and then cuts out. Have tried many fixes but none work. You need to repeatedly restart the stream until you give up in annoyance. Many reports of this on the net but no real solutions. Don't buy this if you're looking for an audio streaming solution.

Airport Express bogs down download speeds on connected devices.

    • Written by from Tulsa

I had an Apple Express hooked up in my living room, close to the Apple TV which btw works really well. However, I started to notice that when I had my Mac Air in the same living room and "hooked up" via express that web screens loaded pretty slowly. I ran Speakeasy to check to see what was up and found that the unit was running at a snails pace, causing the computer to get down under 1 meg some times, even when the Apple TV wasn't being used. I went to my desktop MAC and ran Speakeasy and was getting the 12meg speeds I'm paying ATT for, so dismissing ATT as a culprit, I moved the Express to other parts of the house, tested, and got less than half speed regardless of the location. I then removed (unplugged) the Express and checked again and even with all devices (6-7) connected to the Extreme Base Unit. The download speeds were at back to the correct 12meg making me wonder why I bought the Express in the first place. Bottom line. (My) Express runs at best half-speed so I unplugged it, and told Airport Utility to "forget it" which removed it from my network. Live and learn. I am still a huge Apple fan and have had no other problems to speak of with any other Apple equipment. I just feel lucky that it was an easy problem to solve and even if it was $99 throw-away item, no one, including Apple is 100%.

Don't buy if Airplay is your goal

    • Written by from Vancouver

    (Zero Stars)

I own two of these, and have been constantly fighting to get them to work streaming music to my stereos. This is the black dot on my Apple experience.

At the moment, to make them work I have to unplug, wait, and then plug them back in. Then I need to wait at my source device for the short window that I have to connect to the airport. When the icon comes up I can waste no time, I need to immediately connect. This will buy me 45 minutes of streaming time before having to do this ritual all over again.

Yes, I have scraped through the forums, yes I have checked in with Apple support - nothing works.

These things are garbage as far as receivers for streaming music - maybe the are decent routers, I don't really care about that.

Honestly, go for something that has a good track record, not this device if you want to wirelessly stream music.
