    Great Addition

    • Written by from Orange

We use several Apple devices in my household. I have an Airport Extreme set up in my office, that alone was great. I will lose 1 bar on the other end of my house, I just installed my new Airport Express in the center of my home ( 2 step process with airport utility) now I have full bars in my entire house. You just cant beat that....
It has been a great addition to our apple family.

    Minor confusion for set up

    • Written by from Chicago

Now that I have the product up and running it's fine. However, the instructions are not written very well. They tell you to plug in all the cables to the airport express and then plug into the outlet. It will glow solid amber and then blink amber until set up and connection are complete and it turns solid green. Well, I did exactly what it said and it was still blinking amber after several hours. There is nothing in the instructions saying that this should take maybe 5 minutes max. So I called, and the sales clerk wasn't entirely sure, but after awhile he suggested that I go online and create my network name and password first. I did this via my iphone since I had already disconnected my previous wireless router. After that everything was perfect and took no time at all. Not sure why the instruction booklet doesn't call this out. Kind of crucial to do this before unhooking everything. Device syncs awesome and I have already been able to print wireless from my iphone and my mac. I love convenience.

    Not what I wanted exactly....

    • Written by from BRONX

Bought this at an apple store, after the rep assured me this will work as a repeater for my Fios router... he was wrong, very easy to set up and use, but just isn't compatible with the Fios Actiontec (the worst router i've ever owned btw)
But i'm giving it a chance as an independent station for guests and air printing - i'll have to rethink my network layout and then hopefully i can properly utilize this nifty little gadget.

    Very Bad

    • Written by from South Jordan

Says it can connect with 50 devices without slowing down. My family barely has 10 connected to it and the connections are terrible and speeds are 10x slower than my previous router.

    Old one was better

    • Written by from Camillus

My old Express is 7 years old and needs to be reset constantly so I replaced it with a new one because I love airplay for music from my iphone, ipad, and macbook. I don't like that this doesn't just plug into the wall like the old one. On top of that the cord that comes with it is to short. I'm also getting a lot of interference with the remotes for my wii and now need to figure out a new solution for where everything is located.

So Good, I own Five of Them!

    • Written by from Mount Dora

I first used the Gen I Express to create a wifi network in my apartment while on vacation in Italy. The landlord was so impressed, the next year he put them in all the apartments.

I use a Gen II (hard-wired) to extend the wifi upstairs in my old house. This little gem is so, so versatile. Also, I use three of them (Gen I) around my house to connect my various stereo systems to Airplay. You don't need to buy an Airplay receiver, just slap one of these babies on with a Toslink or RCA cable and you're good to go.

The only thing I would like to see is for it to have Gigabit ethernet jacks for faster throughput. Otherwise, it's perfect!

    Simply works. Good looking too.

    • Written by from Cranbrook

I have an airport extreme as my main router, which itself was a huge leap forward in stability, speed and simplicity from the d-link I had. But we live on an acreage with an extra building about 70 feet away and I got the Express as a range extender.

It's a square, white hockey puck with a nice power cord.

I plugged it into the wall. It gave me three options. I chose extend an existing network. I clicked that. I counted to 45. It worked. I now have equal speed wifi in our out building, same as in the main house. Success. It's pretty too.

    Extended range

    • Written by from BELLEROSE MANOR

Purchased this to extend range of my Apple Extreme base station. House is on three levels with Apple Extreme on top floor. Could not get signal to back rear of house nor to out side front. Installed this unit on lowest level. Now receive signal throughout house plus outside of home. No dead spots. Excellent signal strength. The bottom line with these devices is placement. If you wish to use to extend your signal you may have to try different locations. The other factor is the cable modem bringing the signal to the base station. Is it b/g or b/g/n? Finally, the setup to extend is extremely simple. Just be sure you have your passwords.

    Airport Express is not reliable

    • Written by from Los Angeles

I would not recommend to buy this AirPort Express Base Station!! This is a second that I've purchased two months ego and I hoped it would work since the previous model worked only for 4 month. But, no it didn't. It starts loosing connection at first and then after several 'reset' it won't connect at all. Don't waste money.

LIFE SAVER WHILE TRAVELLING AND IDIOT-PROOF

    • Written by from New York

This very portable device solved my e-mail access problems in Japan and I could set it up in one minute without lokking at instructions (which were in Japanese anyway).

My problem was that in most hotels and public wi-fi hotspots, my e-mail/IS provider (TwWC-Roadrunner) blocked access from my iPad to its POP and SMTP servers even with secure server access disabled. Since many hotels in Japan offer free in-room wired WAN connection, I decided to create my own wi-fi network after unsuccessfully trying to retrieve mail through a portable wi-fi device running on one of the super-fast Japanese 4-G networks. That solved my problem and setting up the Airport Express (called Mac Express in Japan) was practically automatic using an iPad. Will never travel without that great device.

    Love this little miracle worker

    • Written by from Memphis

We have Xfinity service and it has been a hassle since we moved to our new home, which is a older and does not have a great flow for technology. We have been through so many routers that I was about to give up all together. I finally decided to give this tiny little item with the big price tag (in my world)a try. It was simple to set up and most importantly powerful. Our biggest issue was the amount of items would cause some items to drop off or a lot of time no one was able to connect at all. We would reset our router at least 4 times a day on average. With 2 iPads, 3 kindles, 4 cell phones, 2 computers, apple tv, and 3 game systems it never seemed to work out for us. Now with this little miracle worker everyone is connected all the time with no issues. We have had it set up for a week and I haven't reset it once. I am so happy that I could just dance.

Does not work with ALL ISPs

    • Written by from Oakville

Thought I'd be smart and replace my trusty Linksys with an Apple product as almost all my computer stuff is Apple. Was I disappointed. The setup was this was frustrating. I thought it was the cable outlet. So the cable guy came and told me that the only was to this that and the other - all way above my skill level. But he couldnt do it for me as it was not his company policy to do this that or the other.
So back to the store this goes.

    Easy & Effective

    • Written by from estero

Went to Apple Store, bought it on my Iphone and was out of the store (which was full) within 90 seconds. Got home, connected it to the power. Went to my Mac opened Airport Utility and was up and running literally within 10 minutes. It has extended the range of my network incredibly into my backyard/patio area. Kudos for Apple. It continues to be an incredible company (even w/o Mr Jobs No disrespect intended)

    very weak wifi signal

    • Written by from Auckland

I purchased an airport express on the advice of an apple sales person that it would provide a perfectly good wireless signal over a distance of 30m.
Once I purchased the product and set it up in our home office I found that that was not the case and I could not get a reliable signal in the house (approx 20m away from the home office).
I was then advised to purchase a second airport express to use as an expander in the house. However, it still takes about 5 times as long to load a website in the house as it does in the office, and the express in the house keeps dropping the connection with the express in the office.
I have purchased a new imac and two airport expresses only to find that I have to use my 6 year old wireless G router in order to get reliable internet access to the computer in the house.
When I called applecare support I was advised that the earlier advice given by the apple salesperson was wrong and that an airport express really only gives a strong signal over a distance of about 10m.
As a result, he suggested I buy a third airport express and set it up in between the two I’ve already bought, however, that is impossible as there is only lawn between them.
I feel like I’ve been sold a lemon by apple. Very disillusioned with this product. Complete waste of money.

    so far so good!

    • Written by from Savannah

Bought this when I moved. Hooked it up to my cable modem, printer and speakers.
Works well. I consistently get 5GHZ signal. Airplay works well with my iphone, macbook pro but not my ipod touch (gen 2).

    I recommend it!
