    Not Good

    • Written by from Sheffield

Ive been using Airport Express for years but sadly this new generation is far from stable. It disconnects from the network and has to be manually connected, and then fingers crossed it will stay online. I have to add before I bought this box the old one worked fine.

My advise is if you can find an alternative system then use it. £79 is far too much for something that doesn't work properly

    Cuts in and out constantly

    • Written by from Killingworth

I bought an airport express specifically for playing music in my downstairs. Unlike AppleTV it constantly cuts in and out as I move about the room. Extremely frustrating... I've switched units and it makes no difference.

Worst Apple's product ever - streaming just DOESN'T work

    • Written by from Elk Grove Village

I can't believe this product has 4 stars. Try to stream music with AirPlay... Every model of this device had issues with frequent music drop out when streaming... and unfortunately I'm the owner of this model...
More than four years of complains of other users on Apple's forum...

If you're going to buy it in order to stream music - think twice :-)...

    flawless plug and play

    • Written by from chicago

let me start by saying do not be afraid of this thing! it words like a charm, precisely as promised.

Anyone who gave this a poor review has either misapplied this device or simply doesn't know what they are talking about. I previously had a non-apple wireless router. coverage was inadequate so i purchased a non-apple range extender. absolute junk! Ughhh. What a nightmare experience! i spent hours on top of hours playing with config. As engineer by day, i know what i'm doing, and i can only imagine a novice attempting. i said, "to heck with this," and returned the device and said, "we just aren't' there yet. never again!"

I read some reviews and bought a airport extreme router. wow! got coverage where we previously didn't and speeds lightning fast (inSSIDer coverage detection software).

the airport extreme gave sufficient coverage, but still didn't have coverage in the far reaches upstairs. i was so afraid of this airport express, or any range extender, from my previous range extending experiences. I witnessed how well the apple setup worked at friends houses, and gave it a try. literally 2 mins and you're off to the races. nothing to mess with. it just plugs in, simple setup, and best of all IT WORKS!

last comment: i was afraid of the limited set up features. After owning for 2 wks, i am so glad there is nothing to mess with. it's perfect! my devices have no issues switching from extreme to express and back and forth. network speeds have not been effected. it works seamlessly, as all just mentioned were issues i've had with non-apple product. just spend the extra $$ and buy the apple product. the time saved and awesome performance is worth it. hope this helps any reluctant buyers.

    Airplay is horrible/Router ok

    • Written by from Durham

I bought 2 of these things for a 1500 sqft space and these suckers aren't particle. Network drops out from one end of the space to the other so I have to always walk toward the main one to get stable coverage. Also the Airplay is the only reason I got 2 of them and that feature is horrible, it never works. Maybe works for 1 min then starts dropping out. Apple's quality is really is starting to become like it was back in the 90s. Cool outside box with poor components inside and at the $99 price rage you'd hope for a better product.

    Not Gigabit

    • Written by from Georgetown

In this day and age, it is ridiculous that the Airport Express would not support gigabit networks. Even many home networks are now gigabit so this device should be able to support gigabit speeds.

    Better than my Linksys router

    • Written by from Everett

After doing lots of research, I decided This router best suited my needs. Very simple to install, And improved my wifi range all the way out to most of my backyard (1300sq ft rambler). This also solved my airplay issues I was having while playing videos. The speed seems slightly faster than my Linksys router, and I've not had any drops in connection like my last router that occurred quite often. It also looks very clean and simple on my computer desk.

It worked well but only lasted 1 year before it packed it in. No one could get it working again so I started using my 4 year old express.

Signal extension plus airplay to my old receiver

    • Written by from Chandler

Added one of these in our guest house in order to improve signal strength. That worked great. Then I found I could add a cable and connect to an optical port on my old Denon. Now I am driving some vintage speakers with airplay off my phone or I-pad. I expect that guests will love being able to play their music through that system.

    Good product

    • Written by from Pensacola

I've been using an Airport Express for over six months and it's fast, reliable and works well with other Apple products like Wake on Demand and can be used to Airplay audio.

The size and shape is almost the same as a 2nd or 3rd gen. Apple TV. The price is a little high, but they can be found online a little cheaper than on Apple's site.

Don't know whay so many people had problems (get the Airport Utility APP!)

    • Written by from Moyock

From the moment you power the router on using my iPhone to program it was the easiest setup of a router I've even done. I'm using it with a Vonage adapter and a original Xbox using Ethernet and both work fine. Without the App (Airport utility) you can don the basics of the wireless setup but the router did want to go into bridge mode as it was plugged into the Vonage and was continuing that (makes sense if that's what I wanted)
Using the airport utility I was able to set it up as it's own router so it was separate than the Vonage and having the Xbox then plugged into the Ethernet port of the express allows my iPhone, computers etc to see it. I was also able to set up the XBOX on a DMZ zone allowing all access to it so my NAT type was open. With the app also you can set up a wireless printer easily using WPS.
Everything you can do on most routers this makes it easy using the app. If you have a computer can can even more options than the app gives you, again you just have to install the airport utility on those if you want to configure the router from them.

I originally have 2 Linksys router, I replaced the 1 with a newer one, then replaced that with the apple router. Both routers before I was forever unplugging the router at least once a month sometimes once a week or even once a day to get them going again. The apple I can honestly say been using it for about 6 months and not have to reboot it once.
    Great router!!

    Great little router

    • Written by from Longwood

I purchased this router to replace a Cisco router that was at least 4 years old and had a very weak/no signal in some of the rooms of my single story, 1900 sq. ft. house.

The new router was very easy to setup and took less than 10 min. When I setup the router, I used the same network name, password and password security (PSA/PSA2/etc) my old router used. I took this action to eliminate the need to change the network name/password on all of the devices I use (laptop, printer, IPod, etc).

I now get a signal in every room of my house. The Apple router is worth the price.

No connect to Yamaha Disklavier via wireless bridge to Airport Extreme

    • Written by from Victoria

I have spent several days trying to configure this jewel-like piece of junk. Running Lion 10.7.5 and Mountain Lion 10.8.3, Airport Utility 6.x (AU6.x) auto configure does not enable detection of piano using Yamaha's iPhone Disklavier App. Apple Airport 6.x has no manual configuration capability. For that you need a nonstandard install of Airport Utility 5.6 or 5.6.1 (depending on your Mac OS X version). Infuriating!

    Very Bad

    • Written by from South Jordan

Says it can connect with 50 devices without slowing down. My family barely has 10 connected to it and the connections are terrible and speeds are 10x slower than my previous router.
