Great accessory to the Airport Extreme

    • Written by from Austin

I purchased the new Airport Express to use as a wifi extender to my Airport Extreme Router. It was easy to setup using my iPad and extends my wifi signal throughout a large two story home. I now have a strong signal everywhere in my house and even in my backyard. Compared to the old days of using disposable Linksys routers, setup was a breeze, performance is great, and being able to extend the guest network from the Airport Extreme is a big plus.

    New AirPort Express Up-and-Running

    • Written by from Hermosa Beach

Ordered within minutes of it appearing on the Apple Store. Arrived 1 day early!

Another great, easy-to-setup Apple product. Upgraded from an original AirPort Express, I'm getting at least twice the speed from that. I thought that it would be faster, so I investigated. Turns out our TWC internet has the standard 10 mbps package, and with the new AE, we're getting 12 mbps (previously about 6 mbps). So don't overlook your internet connection.

Nevertheless, it looks almost identical to its neighbor Apple TV except it's white. I will miss the original form factor with the integrated power plug, but even that had its drawbacks -- specifically, it's difficult to reposition for best reception unless you use...you guessed it...an extension cord. With the new AE, it's one more small thing to pack when traveling, but not a big deal. Overall, best router for me!

I love the included Ethernet port, but not crazy about the cable

    • Written by from Chicago

I have had 2008 AirPort Express since it was first released and has been a steady companion with me for my travel.

Now that I don't travel anymore, I have used it to extend my network (I live in a brick building house with multiple of small rooms) for my Time Capsule where it is in my work room and the signal diminish when I go outside my house, front and back.

I had always wanted to buy another one so that I can put one in the back, and one in the front so whether I'm in my back yard or out in my front lawn, I will get strong signal. However, I waited for a refresh as I had a feeling one was coming up soon anyway.

Anyway, with this refresh, I decided to put this newer model closer to my backyard and connected the now included Ethernet port to a switch so visitors who need to plug in can use that instead of the wireless.

The only thing I didn't like, was the design of this new model. My 2008 version has the AC plug built-in, where as the new model comes with a cable to connect to my AC outlet. It is another piece of item that I must carry when I travel. Did they forget the name of the product is "Express" where as it will be used for travelling? I didn't mind too much about the size, though, it is only 1/4 larger than my 2008 Express.

I too off 1 star (there's no 1/2 option) specifically for this con. Other than that, like I said, I now love the included Ethernet port. If this one is as heavy duty as my original Express, which I think it will be, then this is another awesome Apple product.

    Ruined It for Travel

    • Written by from Jacksonville

Am I the only one that used my AirPort Express to travel? I love the other upgrades, but by shrinking the form factor at the expense of the built-in plug (and adding a cord), the new AirPort Express misses the mark on portability. Sorry, but if there's a cord, this is just an underpowered AirPort Extreme, and it's totally inappropriate for the niche its predecessor once filled. Please bring back the built-in plug next time!

    MARVELOUS!

This is better than the last AP Express. Great for extending my coverage over such a wide floor plan in my one story house. Also the usb port & Ethernet is great for external hard drives or shared NAS. Now I have end to end wifi coverage plus with the guest network! Great Job as always Mr. Jobs. GOD Bless You!

This is serious competition to D-Link and Linksys routers... I love the Apple TV like design. It looks so simple and elegant and yet it is so powerful!

    fantastic upgrade

    • Written by from kamloops

Same size as my apple tv. The new airport express adds many of the features previously only available to the Extreme. A Ethernet port as well to hook up to a wired computer or a switch is finally included as well. Very easy to set up and works perfectly. I'm in 800SQ FT home though. anything over you should still consider an Extreme for the range.

    Great Router?

    • Written by from East Stroudsburg

Knowing the extremes Apple, Inc. goes to, this is once again one great product of Apple. I had a Linksys router, which almost cost my house to be in flames. The Linksys must have overheated and caught on fire - burning a hole in my cherry wood desk that has my 'Apple Collection' including vintage Macs. I would have died if anything would have happened to them. I saw online about this product and was persuaded to purchase it! It is so small, fits perfectly on my desk, and lastly became well fit in with my Apple Collection! The setup was quick and easy; Any old person could set it up! Great job again, Apple! :)

It is worth the price tag and to be honest, it is better than the previous AirPort. Easy to set up and working flawlessly.
