    Unusable - constantly drops network

    • Written by from Toronto

Purchased this to extend the network from my Time Capsule and in "extend a network" mode it is constantly dropping the network requiring a reboot to join again then drops again after 5-15 minutes. Works slightly better in "join a network" mode. Had to go back to my previous generation Airport Express which isn't as fast but is perfectly reliable.

There are many with the same issues yet no firmware update has been issued by Apple, Google "new airport express extend drops network" to see the scope of the issue.

    Super easy to setup

    • Written by from Bern

Bought one for the office (and travelling) having had for years the Airport Extreme at home.

This was super easy to setup via my iPad. Plugged it in to ethernet WAN and power. IPad found it via the settings/wifi and then I could rename it and set a password.

So easy to setup and use. Thank you !

    Phenomenal Upgrade!

    • Written by from Rockford

Love the AIRPORT EXPRESS!! It is an excellent upgrade with much more flexibility than the old AIRPORT EXPRESS, plus it provides a turbo boost to my home wireless network when I paired it with a Fifth Gen. AIRPORT EXTREME BASE STATION. I'm getting 5mbps and greater download and 2+mbps upload from a network that usually delivered only half that speed, at best! My network IPS is also wireless to my home from a nearby tower so download/upload speed was not consistent and often sluggish due to bandwidth overload at the tower. However, for some reason that I can't quite fathom, my all-APPLE wireless network seems to have solved that problem once and for all! So I am a happy Apple fanboy, once again! Oh, and one more thing. It has extended the range of the old network by at least 75%, if not greater. So do yourself a favor, and install an all-APPLE wireless network in your home and join the APPLE Happy Club! (No, I do NOT work for APPLE nor do I own stock, unfortunately, lol).

    Wow!

Yesterday I bought the AirPort Express in the Apple Store in Amsterdam. I bought it to extend my wireless network. The installation was almost completely automatic! Just 2 minutes and it was ready! This is really a stunning product, both in terms of usability and design. A 5 star rating isn't even enough!

    Everyman's WiFi Network

    • Written by from Fort Worth

I bought the Airport Express Base Station to replace two older AEs, one extending my network on the 2.4 GHz band and the other extending the network on the 5 GHz band. I plugged the new AE base station in and launched Airport Utility 6.1. Airport Utility detected my existing network and in seconds had configured the new base station to extend my network both the 2.4 and 5 GHz. The only action I had to take was to click the button to update the AE. It could not possibly have been easier. Even the greenest novice should be able to set up a relatively sophisticated wireless network with this combination.

    Apple and HP... Lovely combo...

    • Written by from Braselton

I'm not one to write reviews but this is the best wireless station you can buy! The AirPlay is sooo sweet with the right set of 3.5mm jack speakers. I got the Print feature to work using HP ePrint app ( I have an older Photosmart C4280). The app detected the printer. Transferring files to this app from Pages or accessing documents through the supported cloud drives is a breeze! Hit the print button and its good to go! Thank you Apple!

    Very disappointed

    • Written by from Scottsdale

Bought this to supplement the WiFi range of my combination cable modem/router and to enable by wireless network printer. Using all Apple products (iMac, iPads, and iPhones), this was a very easy device to set up. After unpacking and connecting to the appropriate ports, the installation was fairly intuitive and I was up-and-running in less than 10 minutes. The initial use of this device was successful with both a working wireless printer and improved WiFi range, although only slightly improved. After two days, though, the printer stopped wirelessly responding on my network. This was despite my not changing any settings, then trying to get it back on-line unsuccessfully.

Since the WiFi range was minimally improved and the wireless printer function was not enabled, considering the $100+ investment with tax for an unreliable accessory, I brought back the device and got my money back..

    Doubled My Internet Speed!

    • Written by from Cincinnati

I had the older wall-plug Airport Express and just upgraded to this one today, and my internet speed doubled. My speeds went from 12 mb/s to 24 mb/s somehow. Very happy with this purchase.

This is serious competition to D-Link and Linksys routers... I love the Apple TV like design. It looks so simple and elegant and yet it is so powerful!

    Easy setup - Fast

    • Written by from Manchester

Easy to setup. I successfully connected wirelessly with my apple TV, macbook, 2 iPhones, nook and a netbook. Airstream works great along with the airplay to my apple TV.

There are over 30+ wireless networks in the area and no problem with interference!!

Upgrade from the old Airport Extreme (the one shaped like a flying saucer)

    • Written by from Fair Oaks

This is an upgrade from my old Airport Extreme (the one shaped like a flying saucer).  I was frustrated by Internet connectivity that was slow with frequent hang ups.  The new Airport Express is a dramatic improvement, connectivity to the Internet on my iPod and iPad is easily twice as fast. Setup using my iPad took about a minute. Signal range is comparable to my old Extreme, easily reaching all rooms in my two bedroom home, and extending out to a deck about eighty feet in the backyard (the Express is near a rear window).  If available, consider a fully warranted, reconditioned Airport Express.  The quality of the design is an additional pleasure.

    Power plug to large

    • Written by from Little Rock

I read some have problem with their power plug being to large to use cat 5 into WAN port. Google "YL-113L" for a smaller power plug that may work. The product has been great as my new travel router so far. Using an old Case Logic CD case I carry the router, cat 5 and power cables.

    Great upgrade!

    • Written by from YOUNGSVILLE

Bought this today to because my old express wasn't reaching the back side of the house and did not want to buy the extreme. Hooked it up and used my old settings and then turned the old express into an extender. Took less than ten minutes for everything! Good work Apple!

    Better than best

    • Written by from Vancouver

This thing was a dream to set up. I've been using a Linksys router for years and you have to log onto the Linksys web site based on a hyperlink (192.168.1.1) with an ethernet cable from you computer, and you have to spend quite a bit of time figuring out the many screens with security and network name with passwords and and and and..... I set this thing up in about 2 minutes doing it all on my iPad. Wirelessly. Don't waste your time on another way to hook up to the internet wirelessly, and for the record it does much more than just that.

    Works Great except with Nest

    • Written by from Johns Creek

I love this product. It was very easy to setup and extended my network off my Airport Extreme. However, it isn't compatible with Nest thermostats. So I had to disconnect it. The Apple Extreme works fine.

    I don't get it

    • Written by from Petaluma

The new design is bad. One of my favorite things about the previous versions of the Express was that it was a self-contained, super portable little router. I could slip it in my laptop case and take it with me on the road and not even feel any extra weight or notice much extra space taken up. Now this new version adds a long power cord into the mix. It's much less portable. I have returned the unit and am sticking with my old Airport Express.

The second generation of the AirPort Express Base Station provides and awesome improvement over the preceding generation device. This device has fully completed my home network and I am proud to say Apple had created a working that machine that follows their saying "It simply, just works..."

Thanks you Apple for all the hard work and this Amazing, Beautiful new device.

    Well worth the price!

    • Written by from Fishkill

I live in a 1 BR condominium and find that the new Airport Express base station perfectly meets my needs. It is sleek, compact, and very easy to setup on a Mac! This unit has exceeded my expectations in terms of quality and performance!

If you need a good router for a small area, this is the one to buy!

    Well done, Apple!
