    Takes a lot of effort to get it to work

    I have two of these now, to extend my wireless network in my house. Currently I am trying to get the second one to work. Very painful and frustrating. When it works, it is great and reliable, but to get the device setup in the first place takes me hours, many resets of the device and a few too many swear words. In the end I will be successful and all will be good.

    All apple products I have used work well. This is the only one that the setup does not work well, and you have to repeat the process over and over.

    Useless if you needed to change the Mac Address on the WAN port

    I think, if any techie personnel reads my feedback, they'll understand exactly the frustration I'm having.

    If you can't change the hardware mac address on the WAN port, there are a lot of ISP that won't give you an IP address over the DHCP network with a different device of any kind. This item is actually completely useless to me.

    Terrible extender

    Airport express is terrible for extending I plugged it in than everything worked. Than I clicked extend and it said updating than crashed I returned it the day after.

    Less range then 8 y.o. 1st gen Express

    This new Airport Express is cute and all, but it has less range then our 8 year old 1st generation Airport Express. We use these in the apartment for "wireless" speakers and to extend the range of our Airport Extreme. We thought that this new one would help with intermittent connectivity in one of the further away rooms that the old Express lived in, but boy were we sorely wrong. This new one's reach wasnt even close to what the old one had. We also have a 2009 Mac Mini in this room and that too has a much farther range then this thing. We now have it living in a room that's closer to the Extreme. So far so good, but it's only been 10 minutes, so anything can happen. Your milage may very. FYI: The room that it didnt work in is about 12 feet away, but is separated by 3 walls (with 2 doorways).

    Inconvenient Design

    This redesign is very disappointing. It's larger than the old version and it now requires a separate power cord, rather than plugging directly into the wall. These two design flaws make it much less portable. Portability was one of the greatest features of the old design - just unplug and go - instant WiFi wherever you wanted it...

    Very disappointed

    Bought this to supplement the WiFi range of my combination cable modem/router and to enable by wireless network printer. Using all Apple products (iMac, iPads, and iPhones), this was a very easy device to set up. After unpacking and connecting to the appropriate ports, the installation was fairly intuitive and I was up-and-running in less than 10 minutes. The initial use of this device was successful with both a working wireless printer and improved WiFi range, although only slightly improved. After two days, though, the printer stopped wirelessly responding on my network. This was despite my not changing any settings, then trying to get it back on-line unsuccessfully.

    Since the WiFi range was minimally improved and the wireless printer function was not enabled, considering the $100+ investment with tax for an unreliable accessory, I brought back the device and got my money back..

    Worked for a while, now on second one

    I am using AirPort Express to extend my AirPort Extreme's network (which was already flawless) so that I can use Airplay in my room.

    The first unit was set up no problem, but then began randomly dropping its connection to the network thus, being unable to be detected by AirPort Utility and needing a master reset. I believe it simply needs a strong firmware update. I know my way around Apple products, and this shouldn't happen!

    Less options than previously

    I expected it to be the best to play music with airplay, but the output level is too loud for my external loudspeaker with built-in amplification.

    In addition to the bad side, the level of Wifi can not be tuned anymore in Airport v6.x (9even if it was announced possible in the online description)! and whereas it was possible in previous Airport v5.x.

    So easy to configure... because there is less to configure !

    No Gigabit WAN!

    Why in this latest update Apple couldn't include a gigabit ethernet port is beyond me. I purchased one and let that fact slip by me. Going to return the device asap. Using Fios 150x65 service and the 100baseT throttles the service down by 60Mbs

    Not Good

    Ive been using Airport Express for years but sadly this new generation is far from stable. It disconnects from the network and has to be manually connected, and then fingers crossed it will stay online. I have to add before I bought this box the old one worked fine.

    My advise is if you can find an alternative system then use it. £79 is far too much for something that doesn't work properly

    No Longer For The Road Warrior

    I returned to my Hong Kong hotel today to find my Airport Express had fried. As with most, i believe it overheated streaming music. But, it was two years old so time for a change. I rushed out to buy a replacement to find that the design had changed. What a disappointment.
    As my job requires me to be on the road for half the year, i do not want a larger device with a giant cord. The salesperson told me that i could still use the old plugs from my previous model so i was suckered in to buying it.
    Back in my room i found it thinner but at least 25% larger overall. The plug does NOT work with the airport because even the smallest US plug blocks the WAN port so no data is received.
    Sadly, i am stuck with this device until I run across the previous model again. I will likely be buying two of those and leaving this at home on my next trip.
    Very disappointed Apple.

    Ruined It for Travel

    Am I the only one that used my AirPort Express to travel? I love the other upgrades, but by shrinking the form factor at the expense of the built-in plug (and adding a cord), the new AirPort Express misses the mark on portability. Sorry, but if there's a cord, this is just an underpowered AirPort Extreme, and it's totally inappropriate for the niche its predecessor once filled. Please bring back the built-in plug next time!
