    Peace in the household

Tried many wifi routers, this one was the first one to connect everyone's devices in the household without problem. Coverage is great and handles multiple and simultaneous session without a problem. Apple TV works flawlessly for the first time. Never had to reset while this was a regular activity with all previous routers. VERY easy set up, event to add share printer and airprint.

Easy to setup. I successfully connected wirelessly with my apple TV, macbook, 2 iPhones, nook and a netbook. Airstream works great along with the airplay to my apple TV.

There are over 30+ wireless networks in the area and no problem with interference!!

It slow down my actual internet speed connection. does not support airport printing. if you connect any other wireless router you can see the difference in speed. So if you are going to spend this kind of money do it in a better wireless router, just because is apple in this case, it does not really perform.

    Inconvenient Design

    • Written by from McLean

This redesign is very disappointing. It's larger than the old version and it now requires a separate power cord, rather than plugging directly into the wall. These two design flaws make it much less portable. Portability was one of the greatest features of the old design - just unplug and go - instant WiFi wherever you wanted it...

It was very easy set up. But my wife will not be able to do it. I threw out my old linksys wireless router which was about 6 years old and was ready for a new one.

Bought this to supplement the WiFi range of my combination cable modem/router and to enable by wireless network printer. Using all Apple products (iMac, iPads, and iPhones), this was a very easy device to set up. After unpacking and connecting to the appropriate ports, the installation was fairly intuitive and I was up-and-running in less than 10 minutes. The initial use of this device was successful with both a working wireless printer and improved WiFi range, although only slightly improved. After two days, though, the printer stopped wirelessly responding on my network. This was despite my not changing any settings, then trying to get it back on-line unsuccessfully.

Since the WiFi range was minimally improved and the wireless printer function was not enabled, considering the $100+ investment with tax for an unreliable accessory, I brought back the device and got my money back..

Bought this router to replace my cable providers router that kept cutting the signal at weird times of the day and it has been nothing but FLAWLESS. Super easy to set up, super tiny and works just fine for an apartment of 4.

We have a complete apple network. Consisting of a new AP Extreme and two airport expresses, and my itunes and OS is up to date.
Literally every other time I go to connect I get the spinning wheel of death for a second then it doesn't connect.
If i fully reboot my entire network it works fine for a couple of days.
I would save my money and not buy this.

ive always loved the airport express line for ease of use, ease of extending the wi-fi network around the house, and ESPECIALLY for Airplay...Airplay has been pretty much the center piece for me buying these things. This new iteration of the Express has major dropout issues.
Airplay just hiccups and loses connection CONSTANTLY.
Planning on returning these to the Apple store ASAP unless Apple releases a firmware fix within the next two days that absolutely fixes it.

Bought one for the office (and travelling) having had for years the Airport Extreme at home.

This was super easy to setup via my iPad. Plugged it in to ethernet WAN and power. IPad found it via the settings/wifi and then I could rename it and set a password.

So easy to setup and use. Thank you !

    Airplay Not Reliable

    • Written by from Midlothian

The only way you would spend $99 on this router is if you want to use the airplay feature. Sadly, that feature does not work.

After anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple of hours streaming to the airport express, iTunes will start skipping and eventually disconnect from the airport. The only way to reset it is to either restart the computer or toggle the airplay feature off, then back on, on the airport express.

This problem has been well-documented on message boards for several years and it greatly decreases the value of the product. If you plan on using this to play music for longer than 1-2 hours at a time, don't buy it.

This Express knocks the previous version from the curb to the next city!! Way to go Apple!!! If you need a wireless device to extend your current network, this thing is hands-down the best device on the planet right now!!! Setup took 30 seconds, maybe a minute!!! Works flawlessly with all 10 devices we are connecting to the Wi-Fi... even our flatscreen TV can now see & play the shared iTunes file on our network drive!!!

Consistent signal and data rate within a two-story colonial in a residential neighborhood. Very easy to setup. Price is a bit steep, but you get what you pay for. I never give 5 stars, but this one is pretty close.

Continually drops airplay connection--no way to reset other than restarting the router and resetting airplay selection on computer. The problem is well-documented on the various boards with no solution.

The best wifi router I have ever had.

The difference that this little gem of a product has made in my home network cannot be overstated. ISPs are pushing out modem/router combos a lot these days, and it comes at the expense of performance for the consumer. After frustration with wifi slowdowns I decided to purchase the Express and use it in "bridge mode" with my Bell Modem/Router. It now is my sole source of wifi and the performance difference is incredible. Not only does it provide a solid signal over a broader range, the actual transmit rate equals the speed I get if I were to use an ethernet cable. Apple brought wifi networking to a laptop first, as well as the 802.11 standard for the consumer into the home with the original base station. Simply put, they know how networking should be. This is the best performing product in this category. If you have a modem/router combo from your ISP, you need to bring this little guy into your home so that you can consistently get the speed you pay a hefty price for every month. I wish I bought one sooner. I love my "White Apple TV" and I am never using another router again. The fact you can access set up and monitoring with the free iPhone/iPad app is a wonderful bonus.

    Plug and Play!

If all your electronics are Apple, this is a MUST have. I needed a booster for the back of my house and this was perfect combined with my AirPort Extreme. I plugged it into the wall, opened AirPort Utility on my MacBook Pro clicked the box in the upper left hand corner of the AP Utility pop up and the Mac did the rest! Once it was set up and showed up in my Network, I unplugged it and took it to the back of the house and plugged it in. FOUR bars of Network signal!! YES!! I can't believe it took this long for me to buy this! MUST have if your Network needs a boost!

Upgrade from the old Airport Extreme (the one shaped like a flying saucer)

This is an upgrade from my old Airport Extreme (the one shaped like a flying saucer).  I was frustrated by Internet connectivity that was slow with frequent hang ups.  The new Airport Express is a dramatic improvement, connectivity to the Internet on my iPod and iPad is easily twice as fast. Setup using my iPad took about a minute. Signal range is comparable to my old Extreme, easily reaching all rooms in my two bedroom home, and extending out to a deck about eighty feet in the backyard (the Express is near a rear window).  If available, consider a fully warranted, reconditioned Airport Express.  The quality of the design is an additional pleasure.
