Love the new features but don't like the fact that now you need another cord for power instead of just plugging it in to the wall.

    Airport Express

I use five Airport Expresses along with an eight megabyte Mac Mini and Time Capsule to listen to music throughout my home. I work at home and can go anywhere in the house, including front and back yards, and never leave my music behind, usually. Sometimes I dream of the old days of flipping records because my music didn't quit, stammer, or stutter for no apparent reason, or require me to reboot my computer or Airport Expresses, or restart iTunes to restore all of the Airport Expresses, or have Airport expresses dropout completely, or require me to make sure that not more than one MacBookPro isn't running Time Machine, or use the microwave oven. Numerous phone calls to Apple, countless trips to forums, and Apple Store Geniuses (nothing against Apple Store Geniuses, they are the backbone of Apple customer service) without a solution. I continue to use AirPlay, formally Air Tunes, to listen to music but often times concoct ways to have a hard wired system.

    Excellent function, puzzling design

I love Apple, but this product puzzles me. Yes, it does work beautifully, and it's a snap to set up. That's huge. But the design is curious. The old Airport Express base station could be plugged into an outlet in a hallway or anywhere else. This one is more of a production, with a long cord, and a shape that demands to be put onto a tabletop or something. You just have to hope that in designing your home network, you can find good placement for your base stations in spots where there happen to be tables—oh, and then of course you have to look at the base station all the time, instead of the old kind, which sat down around ankle level, unobtrusive in the room, and worked just great.

One more thing. The base of the unit is tapered in such a way that after you've plugged in the power cord and the ethernet cable, it doesn't want to stand properly. It wants to tip. If the cords hang down off the tabletop, as cords are after all wont to do, they tend to pull at the back of the unit, leaving it looking as if it's popped a wheelie.

I really don't know what was wrong with the old one, but if they had to redesign it, I'm not sure why those chose this particular way of doing it.

I love this product. It was very easy to setup and extended my network off my Airport Extreme. However, it isn't compatible with Nest thermostats. So I had to disconnect it. The Apple Extreme works fine.

My old Express is 7 years old and needs to be reset constantly so I replaced it with a new one because I love airplay for music from my iphone, ipad, and macbook. I don't like that this doesn't just plug into the wall like the old one. On top of that the cord that comes with it is to short. I'm also getting a lot of interference with the remotes for my wii and now need to figure out a new solution for where everything is located.

    No gigalan

Pity that this device has faster wireless speed capacity than the LAN/WAN ports with only 10/100 speed. I wanted to use this one in my home due to smaller size than the Extreme but with this speed it's quite a disappointment that the wired side was not brought up to 1GB speed. And yes, my ISP supplies 1GB speed.

Great little unit. Set up was simple using my PPPoE connection. Usb printer works good, but ONLY with computers, NOT with iPad and iPhone. Why was this function omitted ?

Bought this at an apple store, after the rep assured me this will work as a repeater for my Fios router... he was wrong, very easy to set up and use, but just isn't compatible with the Fios Actiontec (the worst router i've ever owned btw)
But i'm giving it a chance as an independent station for guests and air printing - i'll have to rethink my network layout and then hopefully i can properly utilize this nifty little gadget.

I was under the impression that I could use it for my speaker system....No so, It won't work on my Bose Speaker,(Can only connect the iPhone 4 to that).
Also won't work with the iPhone for printing...It only works with a PC or Mac computer if you want to print wireless....
Anyway it not for me,,,(can't print with my phone and can't listen to my music on my Bose with it.) But hey, it works great for everything else!!!!!!

The new model eliminates local storage. The dual band wifi is a nice improvement over the old model.
