    Just the thing.

    • Written by from Toronto

I got the Magic Trackpad to replace an aging wireless USB mouse whose responsiveness had always been a little spotty and that ate batteries.

This new device is great. It's bigger than the trackpad on the laptop, so I can just reach over and use it without looking. The bluetooth connection is flawless, and the sensitivity of the response matched my existing settings right out of the box.

Especially with OS X Lion's switch to inverted scrolling and making gestures (swipe up/down/left/right, pinch zoom, etc.) on all devices more cohesive, having a wireless trackpad makes perfect sense.

Only Apple Could Make The Mouse Obsolete!

    • Written by from Ventnor

This is probably, in my opinion, the single best leap forward to best the typical mouse in the history of peripherals! I have for years wondered why someone hadn't taken the trackpad from a laptop and made it available alone for any desktop. Well from the maker of the almighty "mouse" comes it's absolute replacement for any desktop Mac or Windows driven. It makes using my iMac 27" (current model as of February 6th, 2012) so much easier and intuitive. Which is what Apple does best, making products we all want to use and own. Mac's look good and even better are stable, IMO the most stable and intuitive, and safe way to get yourself online.

No Windows based computer or laptop could or can come close to the ease of use and intelligence in it's operating system. A system that Windows continues to try and copy over and over with every new version. Mac OS Lion is superb and really has this new track pad in mind since it has so many different ways to swipe, crunch, widen, and my favorite--flip back and forward between website pages. With just a flip of the finger you can go forward or back between pages. Instead of using the mouse to move back and forth or move the cursor to pick the forward or backward arrow on the top of the browser.

Love this product beyond words and once again made by Apple. As is most things that are truly intuitive and made for people to use easily. The Magic Trackpad redefines how we do something so simple in our everyday online time.

wWay to go Apple. Great product an really makes me scratch my head as to why someone else hadn't perfected the replacement of a mouse. But then again who else was going to do this? Certainly nothing from the Labs (and I use that term loosely) of Microsoft. Lol. Sorry to be such an obvious fanboy for Apple but lets be real, there's a reason that Apple as a company is growing in leaps and bounds.

    Magic Mouse

    • Written by from Halifax

I find it awkward in comparison to a mouse for selecting and moving text or when playing a game, first person shooter or strategy games, selecting and firing or selecting units. If it wasn't for gestures in the latest OS, I wouldn't recommend the track pad over a mouse.

    Batteries

    • Written by from Houston

For this kind of money you think it would come with batteries that would work out of the box. In order to get it to work I will have to go buy batteries tomorrow, what a disappointment.

Been using this for about a year...went back to a mouse...sort of

    • Written by from Clayton

As I mentioned above, I have been using this product fora year. It was great initially, then after some time I became annoyed at how frequently I had to change the batteries. The gestures in 10.6 worked fine for me, but they changed some ofthegestures I use most frequently with the release of 10.7 and now I do not like using it as much. The dragging gesture is now three fingers which I just cannot use effectively. I got used to the single finger drag as for me it was more natural. You wold think three fingers would be easy to adapt to, but i have just had problems getting it to be intuitve for me..keyword being ME..others are likely fine using it.

It just became more tedious to use for me than a mouse, so I keep a wireless mouse on my desk too for certain things and use the trackpad for mostly point and click and navigating screens, so it works well. My only gripes are the battery life and the lack of sufficient feedback when pressing the power button. After changing the batteries the trackpad does not reconnect to my mac tower and pressing the power button does not produce any feedback so I cannot tell if it is dead or alive sometimes. Most times I end up rebooting which is not terribly convenient. The battery life could very well be a function of the batteries that came with it as I've also have the apple charger and many complain of the battery life of those. I have recently stopped using the apple batteries and have used real batteries because I bought a ton of them recently to have in the house and they obviously last longer. I suggest getting really good rechargeable or use real batts for this....

I would recommend the product with the above caveat...

Great product... with a few oddities!

    • Written by from Eden Prairie

Works great, however sometimes it looses contact with my Macbook Pro and then connects seconds later. When it re-connects it causes the top window on my display to shift ever so slightly, which can be distracting. Also if it is not on a flat surface it will not click. If you get dust or any other type of desktop debris on the feet it won't work. Knowing this I keep mine clean and don't have a problem. You could play a joke on someone by purposely making the feet un even and watch them try to figure it out!

APPLE!!! need a WIRED version Please!!! Wish I could give 5 stars.

    • Written by from Chicago

This is by far the best control interface I have ever used and I wish I could give it 5 stars... forget that I'd give it 6 stars but sadly it's not wired.
Most people's issue with wireless is battery life, I'm concerned about health etc... Nothing I own is wireless because of this and I am a master of hiding wires. lol.
I mean it could connect and plug directly into the side of the wired keyboard... the usb extending out of the trackpad could literally be 1/2 cm long and it would connect directly into the wired keyboard!

Love the Magic Trackpad. The multi-touch gestures make it so convenient, and easy to use. Takes up much less space than a typical mouse, and does so much more. Highly recommended.

    Truly Magic

    • Written by from ORINDA

I have a MacMini and I take it with me back and forth between office and home. I use Magic Mouse at work and Magic TrackPad at home. After a while, I find Magic TrackPad has won the competition. Instead of buying another MTP and use it at work, I bought a sleeve for it and take it to and from work together with MacMini. A great piece of device, which works wonder with OS X Lion.

    Third party software

    • Written by from Paris

Just bought the track pad and I really like it!
Found a third party software to customize it even better and I love it!!
Now that I'm using "better touch tool" to customize it works perfect!
Apple should look at this software and make these changes possible in their software.
    Very happy with product.

Overall Great Product : Does not work with iPad :(

    • Written by from Cambridge

First off I love the product in working with my Mac but I wish that they would finally release support for the iPad to eliminate touching the screen. I would love a response as to why allow keyboard support for the iPad and not support for Magic Track Pad for Touching.

    Nice replace for a mouse.

    • Written by from Casper

I had almost always used a mouse and had thought I would never want to buy or let alone use the Apple Trackpad. The trackpad on my MacBook Pro was an okay substitute to a wireless mouse I had been using, but I never saw it, as a replacement. Well, in any event I got an Apple Magic Trackpad for Christmas and boy I am very much loving it. For starters, like everything Apple makes, this item is just cool looking. Beyond the ascetics this item has no moving parts. Also the multi-finger gestures make this a great replacement to an older wireless mouse I was using. In addition I very much like the size, as it is bigger than the trackpad on my laptop. Only downside was a missing manual, so I did not realize that I needed set up the trackpad in System Preferences. After doing that I found some of the finger gestures that had not previously worked, all of sudden were performing wonders. The two finger swipe is great for moving between webpages and is one of my favorite gestures. In all I really like this item and would recommend, as a replacement to a mouse, whether wireless or wired to anyone with an Apple computer (either laptop or desktop).
