died just after warranty ran out

    • Written by

I loved this trackpad as soon as I started using it. I babbled on and on about how great it was, and eventually my friends got them too.

Not quite 14 months after I bought it, the trackpad started to just turn off and not turn back on until I rebooted my entire system. I knocked myself out eliminating all the other possible reasons why this might be, until finally admitting that the trackpad couldn't be restored to proper working order.

BUT: The same thing has been happening to just about everyone I know who bought the trackpad too. Doesn't matter what system they're using, what software they have installed, batteries, etc.

It seems like I didn't just get a lemon. This item is apparently built to die shortly after the warranty runs out. And that's really unfortunate, because it's such a nifty device in every other respect.

    JUNK

    • Written by from Plainfield

What a super idea - What a total piece of garbage!

The first one was okay for about 3 months before it started acting erratically. Sometimes it was okay and at other times, without warning it actually became uncontrollable.

So, I returned it for another. This one was good for about 10 days.

I want productivity, not junk toys.

    AMAZING! .. & I'm no techie

    • Written by from Germantown

I had a 2008 macbook(the last of the bulkier body white ones) that I had to retire recently because ..well, it was just time. I now have the 21.5 inch iMac which comes with the option of coming with a mouse or trackpad. I choose the trackpad cause I'd read and heard it was similar to browsing on a laptop. & it is! I love it!!! It makes the transition from laptop to desktop much easier because it feels.. not so different. It;s also sleek looking and just nice looking next to the wireless keyboard. Makes for a clean work space. I was back and forth before deciding but I'm glad I went for it. Try it!

    Maybe it's me...

    • Written by from Gray

but the trackpad is driving me crazy. Sometimes I have to hit it to get it to respond; sometimes it responds to nothing more than a thought. It's magic, all right--it magically trashed my application folder, magically resized all the icons on my desktop, magically changes the order of my e-mails. I tried to like it, I really did. But it was a disaster. I've gone back to my Magic Mouse.

    Nicely made.

This gives me full gesture support on my white MacBook. It also doubles up when I use the aluminium MacBook on a pedestal with an external keyboard. The final piece in the puzzle for me is that I hope it gets support on the iPad, as this would make my use of it complete.

Best way to interface with a computer

    • Written by from Bayonne

I absolutely love my magic trackpad; however, I am one of those people who hates the tap-to-click function, so I disabled it . I have had no connection issues whatsoever, unlike other bluetooth devices. And those extra inches make a huge difference over the built in trackpads... I wish I had it with me right now. Also, I think its more ergonomic than the laptop trackpad.

Better than Magic Mouse, but not as practical as Logitec

    • Written by from New Haven

The Trackpad is industrial perfect, beautiful and stylish. It matches well with my apple wireless keyboard. However, all the praise is purely from aesthetic, not from practicality.

Comparing with Magic Mouse, the Trackpad is better. It is not because the Trackpad is good, but because the magic mouse is so uncomfortable to hold. Implementations of multitouch is more suitable for a pad, not for a mouse. The movement of fingers on a mouse is weird and not nature.

However, I do think a high-end logitech mouse is more practical. Do you guys really think multitouch is so important? I use the Logitech Anywhere MX before, which has around five buttons that I can program myself, like zoom, move forward/back, launchpad ... I bet that the feeling of pushing a physical button is ALWAYS better that touching a glass.

In summary, the apple products is beautiful and stylish, but not as practical as many other product. However, I am not regret for buying apple product. The reason is simple: it is gorgeously beautiful!

    painful

    • Written by from FREEPORT

Don't believe all of the hype over this trackpad. it really is a terrible way to interface with the computer. Glitchy, non smooth scrolling. have to really bang it to make it click, which will cause much pain to fingers and joints. As an orthopedist, would not recommend it to people with sensitive touch, prolonged banging with the fingertips is damaging. there is also no relaxed position to use this trackpad as you would find on an older ergonomic mouse. it frequently loses connection, leaving no way to operate your system (you will not be able to completely ditch your mouse). battery life expectancy is also very short, a wired version should be available to compensate poor blue tooth capabilities and poor battery life expectancy.

    STRAIGHT OUT OF STAR TREK!

    • Written by from Walnut Creek

Hands down the best mouse I have ever owned. It took a few days to get used to but it is the most elegant and easy way to control a computer for professional or day to day use. I have big hands and it is just the perfect fit. Plus, since it is blue tooth you can just hold it in your palm sitting back on a chair if you have a mac mini hooked up to a TV. Totally worth the money!!! Plus it just looks and feels cool :)

The Track Pad is better than any mouse I have ever used!!! I thought it would be hard to get used to, but it was extremely easy, and the gestures make working on my Apple computer so much easier. Apple has done it again with this excellent technology. Can't wait to see what is announced on March 7th! I pad 3! I pad 3!

    Get the Magic Trackpad

    • Written by from Rancho Palos Verdes

The Magic Trackpad allows you to interface with your Mac the same way you interface with your Macbook. Simplifies going back and forth between my two computers and provides more capability than a mouse. I really like the way the track pad worked on my Macbook Air and wanted the same sort of interface for my MacPro and this does the job. It links up with computer easily and the battery life is impressive. It just works!

    Fantastic!!!!

    • Written by from dallas

My first generation magic mouse broke and i needed a replacement. The ball stopped scrolling downward. Obviously i thought to upgrade to the new magic mouse because I had used it a couple of times and was pretty impressed. Somehow I ended up with the trackpad instead. Must say I wasn't crazy about the trackpad, honestly i didn't see its use because most people who use the laptop trackpad always need a mouse to go through their days work more efficiently. Man was i wrong.

This thing is amazing. Think of all your iPad and iPhone gestures on your Lion iDevices. I noticed that when using the mouse you would still need to move the pointer to the corners of your screen to execute certain functions like show desktop, all applications, mission control etc, with the magic trackpad there's no need dragging the pointer. It's customized for gestures to execute these features no matter where the pointer might be.

I also used to think that dragging would be cumbersome on the trackpad. It's highly customizeable and gives you the option to drag freely without having to hold anything down.

Honestly you will not be able to appreciate this device until you have used it. We all like to read about reviews and watch videos before buying stuff but this is one gadget you will have to use to understand. Get it you will not be disappointed. I'm surprised apple hasn't marketed this product more elaborately.

    As good as it gets

    • Written by from Grand Junction

Just another great product from apple. If you use a unibody MacBook pro but miss the great touch pad when using your iMac, Mac mini, or Mac pro then this is exactly what you need. I thought the pad on the a book pro was huge, but this pad is a lot larger and you can use all the gestures that you use on you MacBook. Also the smoothness of the glass surface feels great plus it won't show any wear patterns like the plastic one and the sensitivity doesn't change over time.

Once again Apple delivers a stunning product no one else seem to be able to figure out. No wonder apple is the worlds most valuable company.

there's only one thing missing on the trackpad to be rated 5 stars

    • Written by from BOSTON

    The accelerometer...

with the trackpad sensitive to the gravity, many games played on iPad, iPhone or iPod could also be played on a iMac using the magic trackpad as a intermediary since would be kind of heavy to hold the screen-monitor on a iMac to play labyrinth, doodle jump, temple ruin, etc...

Great product, ideal for MacBook's - couple of issues

    • Written by from Murphy

    OVERVIEW
The main reason I use the Magic Trackpad is to have consistency of use between when I'm working at home at my desk vs working directly from the MacBook. The Magic Trackpad is ideal for this however, there are a couple issues I've found that make it a bit of a challenge.

    CHALLENGES:
    (1) The Magic Trackpad has a fairly short battery life, especially when compared to the wireless keyboard. If you're considering the Trackpad, be sure to also get the rechargeable batteries from Apple or other rechargeable AA batteries because you will go through them.

    (2) The Trackpad has an issue with the click action in that it will stick for no apparent reason. The device has never come in contact with any liquids or anything sticky but when in frequent use, it will stick and I'll have to raise it slightly off the table and drop it to unstick it. This can be very frustrating particularly when you're working with engineering diagrams or editing photos.

    SUMMARY
In concept and purpose, I should give this device 5 stars but in execution, I can only give it 3 stars. If Apple would improve this device to enable the battery to last as long as the keyboard or to resolve the sticking issues with the click feature, this would actually be a perfect device.

This is really magic from Apple

    • Written by from Toronto

I made a good decision switching to Apple. They really make quality products with unique design. The magic trackpad is awesome. I can't go back using a mouse. The trackpad is very easy to use, little hard to learn in the beginning but you will get used to it.

    Thank you Apple
