I have use the trackpad for the last 3 months and finally switched back to a mouse. It is not the ideal device to control a computer. It does not feel the same as the trackpad on a laptop.

I don't always use a flat surface so it's worthless. It won't click unless it is on a table. The latest apple mouse will work on anything anywhere. The trackpad isn't better than a mouse period. i'm a fool for buying this and if you buy it you are a fool as well.

Thank you for creating this trackpad, Apple folks.

    It works for me.

Really accurate, easy to use, also my fingers and wrist are pain-free when I use it.

You can do everything you do with mouse, with comfort. It's faster than mouse.

    Good job.

A life-long Apple user working in design (ie: 8+ hours) of daily computer use and I currently own a MacBook Pro w/magic trackpad built in. Bought this bluetooth Magic Trackpad (MTp) hoping it would alleviate some of my repetitive stress injury to my wrist (which the angle of using the MTp on laptop seems to aggravate.) Wrong.

Customization is limited. The angle at which the MTp and your wrist interact seems wrong. Size: keep wishing the pad were larger and had more button programming options similar to either the iPad touch tech and/or a pend tablet. Found myself wishing the MTp were a hybrid iPad touch with Tablet programming options. My temporary solution was to return the MTp and buy a Wacom Bamboo Pen/Touch.

Truly, my ultimate dream is the Minority Report glove: wear a device on the hand or hands and be able to just tap fingers and paint in the air gestures and movements that would communicate via bluetooth or motion directly to your computer. My wrist would love that freedom of mobility and angles/surfaces become non-issue. Please Apple/MIT, I'd even buy a Windows product that had this kind of technology and ergonomic freedom.

BOTTOM LINE: wait for the next round of design revisions and hope Apple can deliver a complete product idea that is truly an innovation. This product seems intended for mac users who don't already down MbookPro w/trackpad built in.

    Really tired of mouse

I'm biased I guess? There seem to be a few quirks with this, but I might just need to tweak the settings, there's a lot of them! I like being able to use up to 4 fingers for various functions, and most of all I like getting rid of the mouse. Moving the mouse all over the desktop, it just gets old, this is a welcome new paradigm. So I'm in the honeymoon phase, take this review with a grain of salt, maybe check back in a couple weeks or months. But so far between this and apple's wireless keyboard and my iMac, my computer setup is looking really sexy! (that's what it's all about right?) But seriously, it's silky smooth, no moving parts. I do like aesthetics, and it really scores in the department, but I like functionality too, and I think it scores there as well. Plenty of gestures that are not hard to master.

Using with a MacBookPro. Works seamlessly and flawlessly--love it!

The mouse click buttons are located on the under side of the unit and you simply push down on the pad for a click. It needs to be sitting on a hard surface when you tap it so that the buttons underneath will depress. Doesn't work too well if the unit is sitting on a soft surface like your bed or sofa.

You could put a book or other hard surface under it to fix this, but that reduces usability and limits mobility. What if you want to use it while standing? It's very awkward to hold it in one hand and hopefully place a finger underneath on the button to press it when you need. It is difficult to balance it on the one hand while using the other hand to operate it.

Solution: If the click buttons were incorporated into the lower corner of the "user surface" it would truly be held by one hand (not balanced on it) while controlled by the other. Thank you

This product gets 5 stars first for simply providing the alternative to a mouse that has been much needed.

I combined this with the wireless keyboard so my MBPro could sit up on a stand on my desk for times when i'm stationary and don't want to be hunched over the laptop for hours on end. The two of these products make it so much more comfortable to work at my desk not to mention the Trackpad is larger than the standard MB pads which is certainly a plus.

All in all, this is by no means a necessity but depending on one's setup it can certainly improve the general flow. Plus it was beyond easy to set up right out of the box...like all good Apple products.

    Cheers

Loses connection constantly and takes 15 mins to reconnect. Just get a normal mouse and save yourself the headache. This product has made in china written all over it.

Its easy to use but the functions like left click fail to work most the time, meaning that if you want to access the secondary menu you end up holding the control key or just clicking the trackpad on the mac. The magic mouse didn't last long before being tossed out the window, I doubt this will too.

Worked for a while, but now all I get through the preference pane is that the "pairing is unsuccessful". I've done the online research, installed the driver updates, done all the tweaks. What I've ended up with is a really expensive paperweight that I can't return because it worked for the first two weeks. Yeah.

I have purchased many apple products (iphone 3, iphone 4, the ipad, mac book pro, and an imac), and the magic trackpad is my least favorite item to date. It does not live up to the hype so far.

Worked great for a few months. Then it randomly started getting buggy and responding with gigantic delays rendering it useless. I have been able to reset the track pad by rebooting my computer. But that's not a viable long term solution. Hear about others who are having the same problem. Not sure how long I'll be able to continue to use this device.

I absolutely love my Magic Trackpad. I never use my Mighty Mouse anymore.

There's just so much practical and intuitive functionality built in - it's just an amazing tool. Leave to Apple..

If you're considering getting one, you shouldn't worry.

With the coming of the next major release of the Mac OS Lion you can see the importance of needing a trackpad type of device for an iMac system.
The trackpad takes some getting used to but after a day or two of trial and error you're using it without even realizing it. It works flawlessly and simply just like any other Apple product.
The only improvement I would make is to have a way of accessing the Dashboard through a gesture, but that alone is not a reason to give it any less than 5 stars.
