    The best upgrade ive done in a while.

    Finally a trackpad for the desktop computer. And i love the size cause I always hate using the laptop ones... too small. If you are a destop and are upgrading your OS to Lion, the trackpad is a must!

    I have been contemplating buying the magic trackpad for almost a year now. I've put it off because I really don't need it, its an expensive luxury for my macbook. However, after Lion came out I was disappointed that my black 08 macbook did not support all the gestures, therefore, I had to get the trackpad. I've got to say, I've been missing out! This little thing is amazingly thin, very responsive, and feels cool using all the gestures. Why oh why have I put this off for so long? I will never use another mouse again! Great job Apple, keep up the great work.

    Poor ergonomics

    Great idea, very poor ergonomics, I started having wrist pain just two days after I started using product, which never happened with using the magic mouse. I had to return the trackpad & went back to the mouse. I hope Apple redesigns it, as I would prefer to use the trackpad if better designed.

    Delightful

    What a joy! Using the M. Trackpad feels like a return to the old days when Apple design was elegant to see and elegant to use. Works so amazingly well with Lion! No concerns about its functionality at all.

    The only thing I would have done different is the power button. First, when the Macintosh turns off, it should sent a signal to the M. Trackpad to turn itself off. It doesn't and this seems just gratuitously stupid. Alternatively, it would be nice if the indicator light on the M. Trackpad did something distinctive (like a triple-flash, or whatever) when you successfully power-down the device. It is otherwise basically impossible to tell whether the pad is on or off, unless you turn it off first and then power-down your Macintosh with keyboard shortcuts. The "when the trackpad is ON, the indicator light is OFF" makes absolute sense from a power conservation standpoint, but makes state-changes unclear. Five stars, but for this.

    Takes getting used to...

    Great item, we bought one with my wife's iMac. I have a (summer 2011) MacBook Pro. The touch pad on it handles four fingered gestures where the Magic Trackpad can only handle three finger gestures. I was trying to show some features of Lion to my wife but her Magic Trackpad did things differently. I imagine that Apple will update the Magic Trackpad hardware to handle four fingered gestures soon.
    Click dragging takes getting used to; at first it is quite cumbersome.
    Four stars because it only handles three fingers.
    Batteries seem to last about 6 months for us (but this depends on how often the Magic Trackpad is used).

    Cool idea but slows down workflow

    Its a great piece of technology and I am really excited to see where this goes in future incarnations.
    However I find it much slower and more restrictive than a regular mouse, sometimes confuses click with right click and is quite inconsistent.
    I ordered one with my new Imac but will be going back to a regular mouse.
    If you want to work with speed and productivity I would not recommend it.

    Great Invention!!

    My family have several Macs and just one of them has the Magic Trackpad and I wish all of them would. Once you get used to this marvel returning to a regular mouse or even to the Magic Mouse is never the same. Besides that if you're working late at night the pad allows you to do it quietly instead of making noise tapping your pad as you do with the mouse. Best investment. I love it...

    Who knew! this is awesome

    It's huge, not just it's surface and not in a bad way, but it just made my mac mini feel young again. Don't try Lion with out one. It is a different OS with than without.

    Too high latency

    Bought this thing to be able to work on my macbook with an external monitor and as a remote for the couch. Expected it to work as the builtin trackpad on the Macbook Pro, but no! You can feel the latency and a delay of the mouse pointer. A big deal when working with precision and trying to point on something with the mouse.
    For the couch it is not optimal either as it is not the pad that clicks but two buttons below it. They sink into the couch so you cannot click and it has to stand on a table. I give et one star for the design.

    Don't be deterred by the concept, it's a wonderful product!

    I was hesitant to purchase a Magic Trackpad because I already had a Magic mouse, but for those of you who have a Magic Mouse, multitouch is second nature to said mouse (and with Lion [I have a dev. preview], it makes for a better experience to have a logical method of multitouch input). So I hustled on down to the Apple store and picked up a Magic Trackpad as well as the battery charger for my keyboard, Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad. I have to say, I have yet to be let down! The clicking actions feel thick and smooth, and tracking is a breeze with such a large surface. My only complaint is that if you go from using this to, say, a MacBook Pro's trackpad, you will notice your finger drag off the specified surface. Otherwise, highly recommend for anyone with intensive mouse use due to the ergonomically correct design of the Magic Trackpad.

    Eh. Not for the serious user/designer

    I've been designing with Macs for over 15 years now (print, web, multimedia, etc). I got this thinking it would be faster..NOPE! The gestures required to do advanced layout/editing (PSD, INDD, IA) are just not reliable or fast. It will take you a lot of time to get used to it. I gave up after 1 week and went back to my wireless gesture mouse. I think it's fine for a newbie Mac person using iPhoto or another amateur piece of editing software that has no advanced editing capabilities. For some things (like placing a cursor exactly where you need it on a page quickly) a mouse can't be beat. The trackpad now sits in my closet. I do give it merit for its form, nothing for function.

    A Great Extra, not a replacement

    The Magic Trackpad is a great extra to have, especially with software such as sketchbook pro as you can use it like a bamboo tablet without a pen.

    The up-coming lion gestures look great too.

    I don't, however, think this replaces the mouse and I would recommend having a mouse as well but overall well worth having

    I've no doubt.
    Is the state of the art.
    We can use the finger to make magic moviment.
    But ... after point, You need to click.or ... click click.
    Click? Yes, click. As a commom mouse.
    I tried to confirm with a soft touch but you need to pull the trackpad to ... click..
    I don't understand the reasen we need to pull the trackpad until make ... click.or click click.
    Is there some technical reason?
    I'm happy with my magic trackpad but when I need to click, click click ...

    Even more coming -- product great now

    Wow. I've been a PC user my whole life. I loved PC's but after I went to Buffalo's mac store, picked up an iMac, started using the Magic Trackpad and compared the two? WOW. This pad makes doing three things at once seem easy -- because it is! With the new update coming out soon more is coming. If you're worried about how this will compare to your beloved old mouse, you're wasting precious time using this product.

    Better than Trackball

    After using this Trackpad for many months, I have finally decided to give my review on this product. This is an excellent upgrade from your standard mouse for the Mac OS and will get even better when Lion is released. While I have used all of Apple's mice in the past and also trackballs for Kensington, I feel this is far better.
    I have used this in Illustrator as well as Photoshop, also Aperture and find I have great control within the programs. Love this and would recommend it to anyone.

    Outstanding

    Typical Apple product: easy to set up (my 4th grader un-boxed it,read the instructions and had it working in 3 minutes) and it just works. Wonder why it took me this long to upgrade. One minor issue, I've found my wrist hurts after extensive use, but I've found simply using the other hand works well. The ergonomics of a Mighty Mouse versus the Trackpad is not better or worse, just different. Nice to rid myself of the the mouse pad. Very pleased yet another fabulous product.

    Magic is right!

    Hooray for the Magic Trackpad!
    It gets better the more I use it. Simple, fast, no hassles. Forget the mouse....
    Great for my MacBook Pro and iPad.
