    Best device for you iMac

    • Written by from BREA

I love this thing! I used to swear by track balls. I've used a Microsoft Explorer for almost 6 years... It was starting to wear out when I finally went from PC to mac. I played with the Magic Pad in the store after I got my new iMac. The main reason I wanted something other than a mouse, the magic mouse was no good. I was so used to my trackball that using a mouse, and a mouse with odd features, wasn't cutting it. I tried the Pad and will never use a mouse again if I can help it (other than work... clunky Dell junk).

Buy it if you are on the fence. Disable the buttons and just use the tap to click feature. There were a couple of features I changed... but can't remember off the top of my head. ALSO, buy some nice rechargable batteries. I burn up my AA batteries in the Pad. I got some Sanyo ion something or other batteries that get some good reviews, shoot for Amazon on those.

One of THE best devices ever!

    Improves your iMac experience

    • Written by from BROOKLYN

It improves your iMac experience tremendously. scolling and tapping with your fingers on this wide pad makes moving the mouse with your hand on a mouse pad very primitive.
the funcionality of the trackpad is the way it should be done. I had my imac for nine months and I had a trackpad for 2 weeks and I kick myself for not getting this sooner.
And if you own a mac laptop as well then having the trackpad for your iMac makes total sense because now everything works the same. The way I wound up buying the track pad is one day I was at a electronic store which had the imac with the trackpad, I started playing with it and it just hit me, using the trackpad just made a lot of sense. The next day I went to an Apple store and got one. I love it, I love it, I love It. Thank you Apple for making sense of the computer and making it fun to use. I switch from PC to imac nine months ago and never regret it. Apple keep up the good work. Love ya. Steve Jobs R.I.P. and thank you.

Magic Trackpad lack of sensitivity control

    • Written by from Pleasant Valley

The ONLY thing I dislike about the trackpad is that there is NO SENSITIVITY setting for tapping nor touching. MS Windows has it for their 'pads' . It's very frustrating when anyone accidentally brushes a body part on the pad & something unintentional or unexpected happens on my iMac screen! (like when my grandkids are here!). I bought the magic mouse because they dropped my 1st wireless mouse many times until it broke, so I bought the trackpad as a backup. How difficult can it be to write an update adding this almost imperative feature to the trackpad? Otherwise it's a perfect product. PLEASE HELP.

    Ergonomic success with technical failure

    • Written by from Sunnyvale

The ergonomics of this trackpad puts mice to shame. It's smoother, faster, more precise, and easier on your fingers. The three-finger drag mode causes a problems in some apps because it takes a second to deactivate. Unfortunately, it's extremely prone to interference. Bring it to an office and it doesn't even have one foot of range before it becomes jerky and unresponsive. Turn on WiFi and it's jerky every time you have network traffic.

    trackpad

If you have arthritis l like me, you are gonna love this trackpad. Its sure takes the strain of grabbing for the mouse. You can lean back in you chair and rest the pad on the chair arm and still point and click.

    Love this gizmo!

Love it, now that I've stopped clicking it like a mouse

    • Written by from Vancouver

I bought the Magic Trackpad because I was starting to get a sore arm/wrist from using my mouse. I confess that at first use, I was disappointed. It is SO hard to click (comparatively speaking), that it hurt my wrist even MORE.

But on day two, I discovered that you don't actually have to click it at all. On the trackpad, a simple tap is equivalent to clicking a traditional mouse. In fact, I don't even know why the trackpad *has* a click function. You don't seem to need it at all.

Now that I know how to use it properly, I love it. I can surf/type all day, and barely move my arm at all.

    Awesome

I'm using this with BetterTouchTool, and the Magic Trackpad could easily replace my 8-button Logitech MX Revolution.

Now if they'd just come out with a black keyed version of the wireless keyboard and I'd be all set.

    Try it, you'll like it.

I've been using a plain old scroll mouse with a wire for years ... connectivity isn't an issue and there are no batteries to worry about. But when Lion killed the driver for my favorite mouse, I thought it might be time to move into the future and try this trackpad. I'm glad I did! From the first moment I used it I loved the smart way that the entire case pushes down to perform a click (the glass trackpad on my MacBook Pro requires a harder press that tires my hand). I'm also able to use tap-to-click on this trackpad with no problems, even though that caused lots of unwanted clicks on my MacBook Pro. And of course the added gestures like swiping left and right to change pages in Safari adds a level of productivity that my old mouse couldn't offer.

With Apple's rechargeable battery kit, I get about three weeks on a charge, and I can rotate a fresh pair of batteries into the unit in about a minute.

My only compliant is that the trackpad occasionally loses its Bluetooth connection to my computer ... it will disconnect, then reconnect again 10 seconds later, maybe once or twice a week. It's not a big deal, but surprising because the Apple wireless keyboard sitting right next to it has never had this problem. I'm leaving out one star for that reason.

Otherwise it's a fine product and I wouldn't want to go back to a normal mouse again.

The best upgrade ive done in a while.

Finally a trackpad for the desktop computer. And i love the size cause I always hate using the laptop ones... too small. If you are a destop and are upgrading your OS to Lion, the trackpad is a must!

Haven't used a mouse since day one of owning this!

    • Written by from Los Angeles

Instead of trying to conjure up every superlative to describe my absolute adoration for this product, let me tell you that prior to owning my iMac (the 27" 2010 version), I had been a big fan of IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad laptops. This is relevant because I had always hated the trackpads that came with most laptop computers, which had always been one of the most significant reasons that I much preferred the ThinkPad's hallmark Trackpoint "stick" over all other laptops' touch-based pads.

Having said that, I also loved the Magic Mouse that came with my iMac, but it took less than 15 minutes of playing around with this awesome new Apple gadget until I boxed up my Magic Mouse, which I had gotten to like quite a bit actually. It is just so wonderfully natural and the generous amount of 1-4 finger gestures make it much more versatile - and FUN - than any mouse could ever hope to be. I also love the understated design and the fact that it screams sophistication and beauty at the same time.

It is also clear that my next notebook will be the 17" MacBook Pro with its large trackpad, as this appropriately named Magic Trackpad is the culmination of years' worth of hard work and experience with touch and gesture based input devices with the various MacBook Pro's (and Air's) as well as the touch screen controlled iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

If I was forced to come up with one issue that I didn't like about it, I would have to say "Sorry, I guess you'll have to shoot me, because I really can't". The most I could come up with is the fact that it drains the battery relatively quickly. When I bought this, I also purchased the Apple battery charger, which quickly paid for itself in batteries that I did not need to buy.

Go get one! I would have paid twice as much for it. ;-)

    Great / Issue

    • Written by from Bronx

I always hated trackpads on laptops, but then Apple started adding features to make them easier and more ergonomic to use. When I bought my iMac, I got one of these babies. Apple really should give the option to buy this instead of a mouse. But it's great. I have an RSI in my right wrist and have had to mouse around w/my left hand for years now. Not anymore. I'm back to my right hand with the trackpad.

I have had an issue with it lately, however. It's been suddenly dropping the ability to tap, which then won't return until the machine is restarted. Weird. No solution on their boards, but also no one else claiming to have this problem so maybe it's just me.

    This is a MUST!

    • Written by from Hamilton

If you have experienced the Trackpad on a MacBook Pro you know what it is all about. This thing is wonderful, more than twice the size of the one on the MB Pro and has all the same benefits. I recently purchased it with a wireless keyboard to use with my MB Pro with a large monitor.

Whether or not you have experienced a Trackpad before, this thing is very easy to learn to you. I do suggest that you do some research and learn about all of the gestures that you can do on it.

A mouse still has its time and place but not on my desk!

Old dogs can learn new tricks

    • Written by from Osceola

I go back to Apple II's. Went to the Apple Store a couple of weeks ago with the intention of upgrading to a Magic Mouse. They suggested I give the Trackpad a try and said if I didn't like it I could bring it back in 14 days. With that said, I gave it a shot.

The first couple of days I was thinking about not if but when to return it. But...I finally figured out how to use it and now wouldn't live without one. The number of different gestures is amazing and makes so many things more convenient and it's actually quicker. After a couple of tweaks, what I had a hard time believing was that it works so well for the text editing that I do each day. I now use a lot more features of OS X 10 than ever before. I really didn't appreciate the new operating system or couldn't appreciate it without the Trackpad.

My desk setup allows the trackpad to lay absolutely flat and flush with my desktop which makes things even more comfortable for someone with a little arthritis showing up, much more comfortable for me than any mouse could ever be. Should have made that move long ago. With a 14 day trial give it a try. I think you will like it.

    Love it BUT

    • Written by from sutton west

I really like the control i get from using the trackpad, I also find it is easier on ones hands vs a traditional mouse all that said my feet fell off -both sides!- which made right clicking and other actions impossible.

So i land at 4 stars, great little addition until it loses it's feet.

didn't work out too well for me.

    • Written by from Yonkers

this thing just did not fit the bill for me. i have been completely satisfied with every apple product I have ever bought until this one. I thought it would fix the quirkiness of Lion if I had a multitouch trackpad... but once I started using it I found it was just a patch. 2.1ghz core 2 duo with 4gb of memory and an ssd... figured this would fit in just fine. ended up being real awkward even after adjusting all the settings I could think of.

turns out windows 7 and a scroll wheel mouse have bought my computing experience back from the dead.

no hate here. just my two cents. too long using the same ui. just felt so stale. trackpad set the whole thing off.

    Not too bad...

    • Written by from Carlsbad

Effective tool however strain on wrist. I lift up my hand and still bothersome.
Feels better when the trackpad is on my lap.

Perhaps making one for table-top with arc in the same curvature as the magic mouse. Tilt forward a little more. A shape that will make less hand movement with more efficiency.

A pressure sensitive pen would be a nice option. Allow trackpad mapping to the screen size.

    magic cursor movement

    • Written by from Whitewater

Maybe I just have a defective trackpad. I've tried this trackpad on two different computers (MacPro and iMac) and have the same result. After about 20 seconds of ok use, the cursor starts moving on it's own - by magic! If tap to click is enabled, programs and odd Web sites will start on their own (due to random mouse movement and clicks on the screen which can give some very odd results). If I don't use it for a minute it will calm down, but it is a real pain to use. In 20 years, this is one of only one or two Apple products I need to return.

    Trackpad

    • Written by from Columbus

The Trackpad is nice, but the angle is not good for people with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. The Battery should be on top so the trackpad is not at a angle. We need to make a Wrist Rest to flatten out the Trackpad.

    Carpal Tunnel Relief!

    • Written by from Temecula

I've tried all types of mice for my Macs in hopes of minimizing hand motion while using my computer. I have carpal tunnel–and by using the trackpad with a squishy wrist rest, it allows me to work with minimal hand motion. I highly recommend the Magic Trackpad!
