Superb for casual use, not so hot for work

    • Written by from montreal

i've had Macbook Pro's for a while and am currently enjoying my unibody's trackpad very much. This device brings that deliciousness to the desktop world.

If you plan on using this at home for e-mailing, surfing the web, photos and other day to day goodness then this is the ticket over a mouse. At home, i never bother with getting the mouse out at all. Trackpad does it all.

At work, you will suffer a bit. Although i managed to get it set up so i can do all i was able to do with my magic mouse, it takes more effort. In particular when working on graphic applications or creating some presentations... the device cannot rival the precision of a mouse. Also, click and drag to move files around or to manipulate graphic items (think resizing a text box) are harder, even after tweaking the settings for drag and scroll lock.

    honest review from a doubter

    • Written by from Portland

It has a learning curve, but about 10 minutes into it, I forgot that I was using it. Thats how awesome it is. It just becomes a part of what you're doing. Now I have my laptop attached to a 47 inch as a monitor, and I'm using the keyboard and trackpad from my captains chair. SWEET!

Oh by the way, it does have those buttons on the bottom underside of it, but you can put this thing anywhere if you set finger clicks instead (have it sitting on the arm of my soft leather chair)

    As good as it gets

    • Written by from Grand Junction

Just another great product from apple. If you use a unibody MacBook pro but miss the great touch pad when using your iMac, Mac mini, or Mac pro then this is exactly what you need. I thought the pad on the a book pro was huge, but this pad is a lot larger and you can use all the gestures that you use on you MacBook. Also the smoothness of the glass surface feels great plus it won't show any wear patterns like the plastic one and the sensitivity doesn't change over time.

Once again Apple delivers a stunning product no one else seem to be able to figure out. No wonder apple is the worlds most valuable company.

    Truly Magic

I have a MacMini and I take it with me back and forth between office and home. I use Magic Mouse at work and Magic TrackPad at home. After a while, I find Magic TrackPad has won the competition. Instead of buying another MTP and use it at work, I bought a sleeve for it and take it to and from work together with MacMini. A great piece of device, which works wonder with OS X Lion.

    Truly Magic!

I am extremely happy I made the decision to purchase the Magic Trackpad! It is like a Wacom tablet for your fingers! It is the most comfortable and natural way of connecting with your Mac. I find it so much more natural than using a mouse. I feel like I have much less strain on my wrist with it! I looks absolutely beautiful on your desk as well! This is just one of those essentials you definitely need!

Need better support for Apple stuff

    • Written by from Jackson

Magic Trackpad is the best. I'd never go back to mouse again.
However, desktop and web App Stores are not supported; i.e., I can't do the 2-fingered back/forward swiping for browsing. Seems kind of intuitive.

    Great product, easy to use!

I bought this to replace my magic mouse - one of the earlier ones that had all the issues with gunk getting inside and not working properly. This trackpad does it all and works flawlessly! My wife and I both love it. A little pricey, but we come to expect quality along with price from Apple. It's worth it because it works, and works well.

    Works Perfect!!

It works great! This gives you a great large space to do all of the muli-touch gestures. I even prefer this over my MacBook Pro's trackpad because of the Magic Trackpads size. Great Product and a must have!!

Superb product, easy to use, but takes a while to get use to

    • Written by from Boucherville

It took more than 3 months to get used to the Trackpad. The ergonomics is much more different than using a mouse (or a normal laptop pad), and I had to change the way I position and use my hand in order to eliminate the pain in my wrist when using the Trackpad. It's still a bit painful but in month or two, I figure it will disappear.

If you eliminate the painful adaptation to the new ergonomics, this product is a real blast (when used with compatible software). Navigating, selecting, and all the operation that you normally do with a mouse are now much more intuitive.

The only thing this product is not good at is gaming. A mouse (or a gamepad) is still the best choice for it.

A word of advice: if you are used to work with a trackpad on a normal laptop (not from apple), forget how you work with it and adopt the Trackpad's way. For example, at first, I was using the single tap to generate a click, which is a mistake for me because I was forced to lift my index finger which cause wrist pain after a while. Now, I click by pressing down on the trackpad with my thumb.

Conclusion: superb product, but we must adapt to the new egonomics

    A totally new computer experience

    • Written by from El Dorado Hills

I have to admit Magic Trackpad is one amazing accessory. I'm using this on an iMac running OS X: Lion and browsing the web and computer has never been as simple. I love the multi touch features: saves a lot of time (iOS like feeling) and helps keeping everything organized. I have new use for Mission Control (aka Spaces).

I recommend this to anyone, though I recommend keeping the mouse handy because you may find using it easier for graphic designing or gaming.

    Better than Trackball

    • Written by from Reading

After using this Trackpad for many months, I have finally decided to give my review on this product. This is an excellent upgrade from your standard mouse for the Mac OS and will get even better when Lion is released. While I have used all of Apple's mice in the past and also trackballs for Kensington, I feel this is far better.
I have used this in Illustrator as well as Photoshop, also Aperture and find I have great control within the programs. Love this and would recommend it to anyone.

That track pad is the Nuts for iOS developer

    • Written by from Quebec

So many tricks you can do with the trackpad and xCode, swipe left, swipe right, 3 fingers up, down, 4 fingers up, down... double click, everything is supported !!

But when holding a file and sliding it somewhere in the screen, it is a little bit more complicated, but otherwise, it's the nuts :)

    Perfect upgrade!

I still use a Macbook 2007 so the last model before the multitouch track pads came out. This has been a great addition along with my wireless keyboard and finally gives me versatility on my mac.

Great to use when my Macbook is hooked up to the TV as well, just turn on the tap to click functions in my mouse preferences and then I am good to go. No more sitting just feet from the TV if I need to use the mouse!
