Does a lot with minimal movement of hands

    • Written by from Campbell

This product is awesome. It gives me all the movements that a mouse does and then some, and that with minimal movement of hand. Click and double click are intuitive. What is not intuitive, though, is that you can do page backward and page forward, show desktop, show all the applications running, zoom, rotate and scroll horizontally and vertically, again, with minimal movement of hand.

If there is one thing I would change in this product, it'll be the angle at which it rests. I preferred if the slope was away from me so that palm was higher than finger tips. Nevertheless, I still believe this track pad is the best "mouse" ever invented.

    Really tired of mouse

    • Written by from Tampa

I'm biased I guess? There seem to be a few quirks with this, but I might just need to tweak the settings, there's a lot of them! I like being able to use up to 4 fingers for various functions, and most of all I like getting rid of the mouse. Moving the mouse all over the desktop, it just gets old, this is a welcome new paradigm. So I'm in the honeymoon phase, take this review with a grain of salt, maybe check back in a couple weeks or months. But so far between this and apple's wireless keyboard and my iMac, my computer setup is looking really sexy! (that's what it's all about right?) But seriously, it's silky smooth, no moving parts. I do like aesthetics, and it really scores in the department, but I like functionality too, and I think it scores there as well. Plenty of gestures that are not hard to master.

Awesome! Only 1 thing I'd like to see changed

    • Written by from Murrieta

Using with a MacBookPro. Works seamlessly and flawlessly--love it!

The mouse click buttons are located on the under side of the unit and you simply push down on the pad for a click. It needs to be sitting on a hard surface when you tap it so that the buttons underneath will depress. Doesn't work too well if the unit is sitting on a soft surface like your bed or sofa.

You could put a book or other hard surface under it to fix this, but that reduces usability and limits mobility. What if you want to use it while standing? It's very awkward to hold it in one hand and hopefully place a finger underneath on the button to press it when you need. It is difficult to balance it on the one hand while using the other hand to operate it.

Solution: If the click buttons were incorporated into the lower corner of the "user surface" it would truly be held by one hand (not balanced on it) while controlled by the other. Thank you

    Extraordinary!!

I absolutely love my Magic Trackpad. I never use my Mighty Mouse anymore.

There's just so much practical and intuitive functionality built in - it's just an amazing tool. Leave to Apple..

If you're considering getting one, you shouldn't worry.

    What mouse?

    • Written by from Bentley

With the coming of the next major release of the Mac OS Lion you can see the importance of needing a trackpad type of device for an iMac system.
The trackpad takes some getting used to but after a day or two of trial and error you're using it without even realizing it. It works flawlessly and simply just like any other Apple product.
The only improvement I would make is to have a way of accessing the Dashboard through a gesture, but that alone is not a reason to give it any less than 5 stars.

Love it - won't use a mouse again

    • Written by from Woonsocket

Dear Apple - please don't ever discontinue this product!

I don't have any of the wrist strain that I used to have from using a standard mouse. Sure the magic mouse helped – and I bought that too – but the trackpad takes it to the next level. I don't have to slide and click and lift and slide, etc. I went as far as enabling tap to click, which completely eliminates strain from clicking the surface.

The gestures are also great and though I wish I could natively customize them a bit more, what you get out of the box is still pretty versatile.

    awesome

    • Written by from Louisville

I thought the Magic Mouse was awesome, making all other mice pathetic, but this magic trackpad is even more awesome, and just makes all the mice seem as obsolete, antiquious novelties of yesteryear.

I hate the average trackpad on laptops, including my Macbook, but the Magic track pad is the end all be all. Been using the track pad for about an hour, and have disregarded then Magic mouse
    Apple does it again....

    Very Nice!!

I just began using the new Trackpad. I like it much better than the mouse. I really like the pinch zoom feature. Its nice to sit back in the chair at my desk an navigate like I'm on my iPhone. Another great product by Apple.

    Allow Yourself Some Time...

    • Written by from Gilbert

After using a mouse for 20+ years, it took a few days to get used to the pad. The gestures are very useful and quickly learned. I tried to use the click function, but as others have said, it requires an unusually deliberate action and too much torque to click as you go higher on the pad. Tap to click is much easier and controllable after a little practice. Two-finger and bottom-right "right click" should work for most folks.

Wait a moment...o.k WOW this is awesome

    • Written by from Etobicoke

While it took a little getting used to, wow, have I come to love this trackpad. I still use my Magic Mouse but have come to love using this Trackpad to edit my movies in imovie and for Web Surfing. It takes just a gentle tap (really) to make a click and I can move my pointer so easily back and forth and around the screen. I was really surprised about the upside this has brought to editing my family movies in iMovie. I have found it to be much easier and way more accurate to edit out unwanted portions of clips and advancing through a clip to just the right spot. When doing this with the mouse it would hurt my wrist after a while. Now I find it more fun and easier to spend the time getting clips just right. Was really not sure when I bought this if I would be happy and use it but 5 stars from me, a new and essential tool on my desk ( iMac user).
    Thanks Apple!

    Desktop Art

    • Written by from Marietta

I'll be darned. The Magic Trackpad is everything it's cracked up to be. Sitting alongside my 1st gen bluetooth keyboard, it's a perfect match. Its large surface is great! The absence of a button takes a little while to get used to but it seems natural now.

But, like my MacBook Air, something's not quite straight. It's a little bent; only 3 pads touch the top of my desk not matter which way I turn it (or what surface I place it on.)

Happy with the functionality and the little bit of personality. The Trackpad joins my Air with a little bit of stabilization in the form of a folded-over scrap of card stock under its front left paw.

    Game changer

    • Written by from Stony Plain

I'll never buy a mouse again. Having a large trackpad just makes so much sense in terms of usability and ergonomics.

I was pretty hyped about, and it's actually BETTER than I expected :)

I really like the large size

    • Written by from Austin

I have big hands and love the size of this trackpad. I have an adjustable keyboard tray and "floating" Circular mouse tray. As much as I love my magic mouse, my wife has arthritis and was constantly picking up and moving the mouse to a new spot on the tray. I thought this would help her but she doesn't like trying to remember Multi finger commands. So we use both ...sometimes simultaneously! Good build quality and flexible. Remember to update your software.

    miraculous

    • Written by from Brooklyn

I have limited desk space and using a mouse has always been a challenge. The magic trackpad is wonderful. Very intuitive swiping, but you do have to read the directions and of course download the separate MT software from Support. It's very fast and I suspect it will do a lot to alleviate mouse fatigue (carpal and otherwise).
Try enabling "Tap to Click" because it's much easier- the physical click forces you to bear down fairly hard, which isn't ideal.

I never touch a mouse again...

    • Written by from Hamburg

    OH MY GOD...
I never had a "cursor experience" like this on my Computer,
and i'll never touch a mouse again!
    :)
But seriously, from an hours-and-hours of working kinda of perspective,
it is a great relieve to my hands, wrists and arms.
Thoses were killing me before the new aliminuim keyboards came out
(who wants to pound on the MacBookPro alle the time instead of using
external devices such as keyboard and mouse?), and it got better after that.
But the mouse was still an issue, for instance the new Magic Mouse, sorry Apple, felt like pusing around a brick on the desk!

But this Trackpad could easily be sold as an orthopedic device
THANK YOU APPLE, that thing is a blast!

This should have been standard with my imac27

    • Written by from Mahtomedi

We have a Macbook Pro, and I love the way the track pad works on it. When I bought my iMac 27, I was immediately disappointed with the terrible little Magic Mouse that came with it.

The Magic Trackpad is so much better than a Magic Mouse, that it's not even a fair comparison. The only tasks that a Magic Mouse may be able to do better are those that require very fine pointer control. Otherwise, the Magic Trackpad is far superior and (IMO) should be standard equipment that is shipped with Mac desktops.

Bravo, Apple. This is a very, very good product and well worth the $69 price. Can I get Apple Store credit if I mail in my paperweight / Magic Mouse? ;-)

    Magic Trackpad? Pretty Much!

    • Written by from Oregon city

It's amazing how easy it is to use! Your fingers really glide on the surface. It's really nice if you have a small desk and are tired of using a mouse. FIVE STARS!

works very well, i think i'm going to stop using a mouse

    • Written by from New York

responsive, big, easy to use, and the three finger grab is really, really, really useful. i haven't used the new multi-touch macbooks, so this is all new to me. but i really like it on the desktop.

the software is pretty great too, lots of customization, but not so much as to render your computer unusable to other people.

highly recommended UNLESS you have a 30 inch screen--its barely big enough to cover my 24", and i can't drag stuff from one 24" screen to another (i have two). isn't a problem, though, because i don't drag stuff across two screens. but i do drag across one, and if i had a 30" this trackpad would be a little infuriating.

but almost no one has a 30" screen, so the trackpad is still awesome.
