    Great addition for any user

    • Written by from Chester

I received the Apple Remote as a gift. It is a lot easier to use from the previous version. It's durable with a sleek design. It has allowed me to use Front Row with ease along with controlling the volume from a distance. I would recommend this product to an Apple user. For the price you can beat it.

Overall Good Improvement with New Design

    • Written by from Washington

Overall this newly designed remote is an improvement on the previous design and definitely feels more in line with Apple's products. The new remote is a non-magnetic aluminum material that is much longer and includes an extra button compared to the original white plastic remote.

I love the look and feel of the remote but am having a hard time adjusting to the new significantly longer remote as it does not rest as well in the hand as the previous remote. Also, since the wheel control is flush with the remote, it will take some getting used to - whereas the previous design allowed easy and quick use without looking since the control wheel was elevated. The play/pause button is moved from the center of the control wheel to below and replaced with a "select" button. There is a menu button as before.

This remote works excellent with any Apple product with an IR receiver manufactured after 2005 - including AppleTVs, Mac Minis, iMacs, Mac Books, and more.

    Nice design, but completely unreliable

    • Written by from BRONX

The main problem with the apple remote is poor design of the battery bay. When replacing the battery, the contacts must make full contact with the battery cell. Unfortunately, the contacts can be inadvertently bent out of form, causing the remote to malfunction and become inoperative.

Why would they remove the functionality of this thing and still sell it? It doesn't do anything now except for control the volume and, if you hold down the play/pause key for 5-8 seconds put the machine to sleep. I ask again, seriously?

    That said, it is beautiful.

    Quit complaining

To those who keep gripping about how upgrading to Lion totally killed their experience, use Plex or Boxee (support discontinued). Both are ≥ to Front Row, and have more functions for the remote.

That aside, this is the best piece of hardware in the universe. Its well built. And small. what more needs to be said?

    apple remote

    • Written by from newton abbot

it has a beautiful aluminium case and brilliant black buttons. seems to be missing the apple logo.

i have just brought one and i was really excited about it and then i found out that it doesn't work with the new white macbook uni-body which i found very irritating because i'm going to either have to sell it or buy an IR receiver... so watch out if you are buying one because it doesn't state whether it works with the new white macbook. But it works with the old one, Crazy.

    Limited navigation- nice design

    • Written by from Hillsdale

This new aluminum remote is definitely better than the previous plastic one, that resembled an iPod shuffle. The buttons click easily, and there aren't thousands of buttons that you have to memorize. But, unless you have apple TV and lost the remote, or you need a new remote for your mac/iPod dock, then you wouldn't need this accessory.
    -Recommended as a replacement part-

    Minimalism at it's purist

    • Written by from Milford

Once again Apple has managed to take the simple and keep it there. A simple remote control milled from a single piece of aluminum - it really feels good in your hands - brilliant.

    Simple yet Elegant!

    • Written by from highland village

This is way better than the previous apple remote. It feels very nice in the hand, and is aluminum rather than the previous plastic one. The Click wheel is very nice, but it does not have touch sensitive volume control like on the older ipods like i believed it had, instead the volume is the up and down (dots) on the click wheel. Overall this is a fantastic addition to my iMac, and I'm sure it would be great for the Universal Dock along with appleTV. Great product thanks agin Apple!

Great design, little capability (on OS X Lion)

    • Written by from Cianjur

Great design. It's IR but worked very well from any direction to the receiver. It's about 5 meters on maximum distance from the receiver.

The function of this remote on OSX Lion are for controlling Quicktime, iTunes, and Keynote or PowerPoint presentations. They are turning up and turning down the volume, getting to the next or prev song, getting to the next or prev slide, play or pause the song or movie, play a slideshow (stopping a slideshow isn't supported), fast forwarding or rewinding the music and the video.

You're cool when you're presenting a slideshow using this device. That's the most great feature of this device.

    Works quickly and works well!

    • Written by from New haven

I bought it as an impromptu purchase right before I gave a Keynote presentation. Right out of the box, it immediately somehow "recognized" my macbook and my macbook only (other people in the room had macs and I still can't quite figure out how it knew to direct itself to mine) and I was able to use it seamlessly with my presentation. The only thing that might be handy is a laser pointer at the end so that I don't also have to carry a pointer. But very happy with this sleek littile thing.

    Awesome Basic Tool

    • Written by from Greenville

This little accessory is awesome for basic functions such as watching movies, controlling presentations, and viewing images.

I have noticed there are numerous low-ratings and critical reviews, but the remote is what it is. It's a $20 tool and does not claim to be more that it is.

    Not available for new MacBooks!

    • Written by from Salem

I'm quite upset this option isn't available for the MacBook anymore, because it doesn't have IR. I absentmindedly tried using the remote control of my old MacBook on my new one to adjust the volume of my music from across the room. Needless to say, it didn't work, and this product won't work either. Now I have to stop what I'm doing, get up, and move to the computer to change the volume. . . thanks for the exercise?

    Handy little device

    • Written by from University Place

I picked up one of these when I bought my Mini. Sure, I have a full keyboard and a multifunction mouse, but who doesn't need another toy? Is this remote a requirement, or does it make computer life SO much easier? Nope. But I still bought one and will recommend them to any of my Apple friends. It's a great remote and I will be using them as long as Apple makes them.

    Way better than the original!

    • Written by from Winnipeg

Just came back from the Apple Store with this new remote and I really like it. It really feels like a quality gadget compared to the original plastic remote. The original was too tiny and this one is just the perfect size. The white plastic model felt like it would break into pieces if dropped. The new one is aluminum and looks very much like an iPod-type device (in other words, VERY Apple looking), compared to the original remote which looked almost like a cheap knock-off of an Apple product. It matches my iMac perfectly. Now I just have to get the Magic Mouse and everything will go together quite nicely. I really like a clean look as you can probably tell. I cannot stand mismatched design when it comes to technology. My friends all have stuff like black monitors, beige computer box, grey mouse, red keyboard--you know the kind of mismatched PC look, almost like each piece was collected over time from different alleys around town. My friends come to my place and everything is just beautiful on my desk and this remote is the icing on the cake! That little detail that brings it all together. It's perfect!

    Same functionality, better looks.

    • Written by from Ottawa

Overall, nice and solid but has the same functionality as the last one. This is great because I use one with my mac mini HTPC and another with my apple hi-fi so I always get the mixed up since they look the same.

The aluminum casing is amazing but I would have liked to have an option with white buttons to match my other accessories like the wireless keyboard and mouse as it feels a little bit out of place.

I have one of these for my apple tv and i love it. It is strong, definitely because i dropped from about 7 feet and it still works and i love how small it is, i actually forgot it in my pocket once while traveling to school.
