Does Not Work With New MacBook Air

    • Written by from Braunton

bought it with great expectance, looks great, feels great in the hands, but when attempting to pair it with my near brand new Macbook Air... nothing... Because theres no IR receiver on the new Macbook Air, a fact omitted almost everywhere on the apple website, very disappointed, big fan of apple stuff and it all works well but I really felt let down by this.

I keep losing them, since they are so thin and small. The performance is great, much better than the first remote

Apple remote has limited functionality in OSX Lion

    • Written by from Bedford

Got this remote for my iMac 27 mid 2011. Works better on Slow Leopard. The menu button doesn't do anything on OS Lion, I hope apple fixes that soon.

This product is absolutely incredible! I've had mine for a year and a half and although it has served it's purpose well of aiding in my laziness and keeping me from having to walk to start my music or watch a show, I never until today realized just how amazing this tiny little remote is.

Most nights, I use my remote to watch a movie or tv show before bed. Some nights, I fall asleep too early and my remote will get lost in the blankets. This happened three nights ago. Two days ago was laundry day. I didn't realize that I had lost my remote yet, so I gathered all my blankets and just threw them in the washing machine. I dried my clothes, all was well... until the next day when my roommate went to do a load of clothes and pulled my tiny remote from the bottom of the washing machine.

I was crushed. I was not sure what to do without my remote. I just new my little buddy, my enabler was a goner. I stuck it in some rice, hoping and praying I could save it. I thought that was probably pointless, as it's not like a cell phone which can be taken apart. Today, as I was getting ready to crawl in bed, I missed my remote and decided to test it out... just in case...

IT WORKS!! My tiny little remote still works! Thank you, Apple! You amaze me! <3

    Great remote for Apple TV

    • Written by from Kirksville

This remote is great for the Apple TV. It is simple, responsive, and sleek. Make sure you keep liquids away from it (spilled coffee on mine and it no longer works). I'm now looking to buy another one for my Apple TV.

Many people on here seem to have problems with lack of usability with OS X Lion. If you are looking for a good way to control your iTunes away from your computer and you own an iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad, try using the free remote app. Front row was slow and obnoxious.

    Simple from the start

    • Written by from Melbourne

I could tell I hadn't wasted a cent when I went to setup the remote, why? Because their was no setup literally works out of the box: no on button, batteries included and best of all no pairing needed to work but is an option if you want added security.
Something else few people know is that this remote is the best for Keynotes, it's not bulky and all the included buttons do the job when presenting a Keynote.
Arguably one of the best iPod/iPhone/Mac accessories in both usage and design.

    Great remote for Apple TV!

    • Written by from Greenwood

This is a great remote for Apple TV and the universal iPod dock with infrared sensor. It has great durability and always transmits signals when in range. Battery life is good too.
Note: Do NOT buy for a Mac with OSX Lion! Front Row is gone so this remote is useless for controlling a Mac!

    Menu Button for Remote: Why?

    • Written by from Charleston

Like other posters here I find the inclusion of the remote to be of little value with Lion. The Menu button provides no useful function and navigation through iTunes (scrolling up or down and playing or pausing is very limited. I used to use Front Row quite a bit when sitting across the room and wanted to switch between music (artists, albums, songs), movie, or other features. Please bring back Front Row or a similar feature for Lion. It was very handy.

    Almost a Paperweight.

    • Written by from SAULT SAINTE MARIE

With Front Row being phased out the remote is now semi-uselessl. The remote will work with iTunes, but it's buggy and the Menu button on the remote has almost no functionality with Lion.

Now that I have upgraded to the almighty Lion I cannot use my remote anymore because Front Row which is on snow leopard has been taken off, Quick assemble the Geniuses and lets have the remote compatible with Lion.

It looks as good as it feels

    • Written by from Los Angeles

I really like the design kinda like my macbook pro and that's a huge plus. Please keep making product like this. Bought it today and used it for 1 hour and I am completely overdrawn to it. I can't even use my keyboard buttons when watching a movie right now.

This is one of the most beautifully designed and built products that I have ever seen in my life. The menu and center buttons are slightly concave and your fingers sit very nicely on them (seriously). The case is a single piece of aluminum (no seams except for the battery cover, buttons, and IR transmitter of course). Matches perfectly with the Mac computers’ latest designs. Simple and perfect.

    Front Row

    • Written by from Indianola

Apple, while I may enter into a fierce argument debating whether I am the biggest MAC supporter out there, I digress. PLEASE BRING BACK FRONT ROW, or do something so that the remote works with Lion. That's the entire reason that I bought the thing!!!!!!!! Please do something!!!!!

Okay I've been an aggressive Apple fan every since I bought my first Apple MacBook Pro and I've never looked back on that decision. Apple has always been quick to fix a problem or at least address the issue and resolve it in some unique way (i.e. the antennae problem with iPhone 4). However when I downloaded LION and found out that the MENU button was not working I went online to find at least an explanation. Instead I see hundreds of comments by unsatisfied Apple customers but nothing from Apple. Apple, what gives here? At least give us an explanation and don't go hiding from us. When you don't respond you give us the feeling that you are not being truthful or honest with us. Come on....what's up? How you could you just overlook the MENU button on one of your components? I can't believe you just forgot. But at least give us some comment. Please don't start acting like the other companies. Steve Jobs...speak up for us out here. Either fix the problem or recall the remotes. I'm not angry. I'm not mad. Just a little disillusioned.

Great product if using with Snow Lepord.. otherwise.. useless with Lion!!!!

    • Written by from Harrow Weald

I love apple. I think they show so much class in product design and go-to-market than any other manufacturer out there! However.. with this.. Steve.. (even though you've gone).. apple did a bit of a BOO BOO! Seriously.. to miss out front row with Lion.. surely someone in the development team must have tested this and realised this didn't work. It's like polishing up a brand new mustang and selling it to customers without any tyres. Looks good to sit in but ain't gone take you very far. Come on apple. Please please make an update for Lion and get this out for us Lion customers. Gosh, imagine what life will be like WITH the new apple remote as a means to guide us through our very own desired content! P.s. still buy the darn thing.. its just so lovely to look at. Might frame mine.

Apple Remote's most important Menu button doesn't work with Lion!!

    • Written by from Singapore

The current Apple Remote is a work of art - beautifully crafted, though too much bigger than the old white Apple Remote which was the size of a chewing gum pack - that was neat. While the new remote looks beautiful with it's aluminum finish, the all important Menu button doesn't work with Lion! Apple, please look into this quickly - worst still, I ordered my Apple Remote along with the new 15" MBP that comes loaded with Lion, and I was not told or neither was it indicated anywhere that this remote will note have full functionality with the Lion OS! So, you've sold me a volume control for SGD28!! Please do something about this asap.

Apple remote doesn't work on OS X Lion

    • Written by from Greve in Chianti

The apple remote works perfectly on OS X Snow Leopard!!!
But after the upgrade (Snow Leopard -> Lion) the apple remote doesn't work.
The menu button does't work, in fact you can't choose photos, slide shows of your albums, movies and many other things in the menu screen.
