Great product!! Fits nicely in your hand. It has a quality feel to it. Worked with my MacBook and Apple TV without a problem. Jonathan did another great job designing this masterpiece. Can't wait to get my iMac! Keep up the great work!

    form over function?

    • Written by

Everyone knows that Apple make great products. This remote control looks like it should be another one. It feels great in your hand, has a nice weight and matches the new macbook perfectly, which is nice. I ordered my one from this website and when it arrived (the first working day after purchase) it worked perfectly. It was really easy to link up to my laptop and it started working straight away! The only problem is that it stopped working again almost as fast. I've had it for about 10 hours now and it barely works... It feels like it might be out of battery. You only get anything at all from it if you hold it 6 inches from the computer and even then, you get a response from every 12th jam on the button or so. The only thing that stopped me from smashing it was the thought that if it should then somehow miraculously start working again it would be damaged and the fact that ending with the words, "... then I smashed it." might hurt my story when it comes to getting a free shiny new one. I'm really just venting frustration here and i'm sure this is a one off (otherwise this page would be full of angry reviews) so I wouldn't go on this when deciding whether to buy or not. In the short time it was functioning properly, it was good! It works with iTunes and "Front Row" as well as "Keynote" presentations so its perfect. The buttons are a little on the small side. I don't have ridiculous hands and I feel like i'm pressing two buttons at once sometimes but its a good product and i'm sure it's handy when it works.

    Out of this world

    • Written by from PLEASANTON

It has an incredibly pleasing feel to it. It is a same functioning design as the cheap plastic one, usually included with purchase of the Apple TV or Mac Book Pro, but the beauty of this Remote is hard to describe. You will love it.

    Ergonomically unusable for home theater

    • Written by from San Luis Obispo

This new remote is not usable for home theater. It's difficult to not press the main function ring and the new select/enter button at the same time because the new ring is not raised like it was in the previous white remote. The complete lack of tactile differentiation to discern between these two choices (i.e., ring or select) makes the remote unusable in a darkened home theater.

    Key color

    • Written by

While I agree that the remote is nicely designed, the black keys do not coordinate with the keyboard, and I wonder why they did this. Actually, I would have preferred a black key keyboard with the aluminum, matching the black Apple logo of my new iMac, but with the white keys, I would have now preferred white buttons on the remote. I realize this is nit-picking, but Apple is all about design continuation.

The extra button makes Apple TV easier to use

    • Written by from Jupiter

I like the extra play/pause button - you can just click play when you hover over an artist, genre or whatever without having to dig deeper into your selection.

Physically the remote feels really nice to the touch, is a good shape and size, and is harder to lose on white bed linen!

    Nice job Apple!

    Pretty Darn Good Looking Too

    • Written by from Uvalde

It's great... there is an amazing thing that hasn't happened in the past and that is that you can pair you computer with one remote... i remember sitting in class and friends that sat behind me would mess with my computer from the back... but now there isn't a problem. And for presentations it looks great in your hand

Overall Good Improvement with New Design

    • Written by from Washington

Overall this newly designed remote is an improvement on the previous design and definitely feels more in line with Apple's products. The new remote is a non-magnetic aluminum material that is much longer and includes an extra button compared to the original white plastic remote.

I love the look and feel of the remote but am having a hard time adjusting to the new significantly longer remote as it does not rest as well in the hand as the previous remote. Also, since the wheel control is flush with the remote, it will take some getting used to - whereas the previous design allowed easy and quick use without looking since the control wheel was elevated. The play/pause button is moved from the center of the control wheel to below and replaced with a "select" button. There is a menu button as before.

This remote works excellent with any Apple product with an IR receiver manufactured after 2005 - including AppleTVs, Mac Minis, iMacs, Mac Books, and more.

    Good and bad

    • Written by from Oakland

Really beautiful and super flat design.

However, if you're an Apple TV user for 2 years like I am, you'll be very used to the previous design, so there is a learning curve. The menu button is now on the bottom left, rather than centered, so it will slow down your speed if you're used to the old one. Also, Apple made a very un-Apple decision to add a completely redundant play button. So the middle button still selects and plays, but there's now a second play button on the bottom right. This makes absolutely no sense -- what was Apple thinking?

Not sure if the cool design is worth the trade-off.

This new Apple Remote is great! I love the new aluminum design & it's overall very sleek. I use it with my MacBook Pro 15'' and iPod Touch 3G. At night I like to watch TV shows before bed...I can control my shows while the MacBook Pro is on the desk and I'm laying in bed. GREAT LITTLE DEVICE, THANKS APPLE!

Nice elegant remote and great ease of use!

    • Written by from Mililani

I love the way it's designed. So nice. I wouldn't throw this one around like my white plastic one. I like how it matches the macbook pro body and keyboard. It is so nice and it seems to be more functional in terms of response than the white plastic one. Thanks!

    World's Greatest Tactile Device

    • Written by from Mississauga

I just received this in the mail, and haven't even tried it on my new iMac yet. However, I can truly say that I don't care if this ever works with any of my Apple devices - this is the coolest, most incredible device to simply hold in your hand. This product gets top marks for industrial and ergonomic design. Who cares if it works... I just like carrying it around...

    Much Improved

    • Written by from MISSOULA

A lot better than the old plastic remote which would get lost in my hands. The new remote has a slight heft and a much better feel. The buttons are much more responsive and the overall look is great. $15 dollars would be a better price but $19 is worth it since it will probably last many years!

    Overall an awesome product

    • Written by from Marlton

I really like this remote better then the last one that seems fitted better for the White MacBook Unibody. It is very sleek and goes perfectly with my MacBook Pro. It definitely looks and feels like a real remote. The old one seems like something you would use on an iHome system. With the click wheel look and getting rid of the "+", "-", etc., it looks better. For almost twenty dollars, you are getting a great product.
