This is the best thing ever. Apple has the new and latest technology. I am never disappointed.

More I use it the more I like it.

    • Written by from NORTH SALT LAKE

Received as a Christmas gift. Remote has a much better tactile feel since it has a slightly raised and a concave button. I originally thought the longer size would be a drawback, but it seems to fit into the hand better. Of course love the durability and overall feel of the metal and the battery compartment is more accessible.

    One Word: Wow.

    • Written by from Beverly Hills

I'm blown away that Apple created something so amazingly simply for an almost unheard of price of $19.95. This little doodad is all aluminum . . . you take it out of the box, aim it at your Mac and then Bob's Your Uncle. Wish everything in life worked this well.

    Works Good

    • Written by from Belmont

The new remote works better than the old and is much better looking. The Buttons make it feel like a nice thin iPod nano. The only down fault is how slow the remote works sometimes. I don't know if it has to do with my Mac or the battery or just the remote itself but it would be nice if it worked in front row more smoothly. In iTunes it is perfect if you just want to listen to music. Over all i say buy it for the price its at you cant beat it.

    Okay, but no on-screen menus?

    • Written by from Fort Wayne

I'm not sure of this is a design fault of the dock or the remote, but when I purchased the remote to control a 5th-Gen nano on a Universal Dock hooked to my entertainment system, I expected the capability of bringing up the nano's menus on screen and using the remote to switch between functions and select videos. Doesn't work. The best one can do is select a video from the nano, then use the remote to stop and start. Com'on Apple, you can do better than that.

Total waist if you have the original

    • Written by from Cambridge

I got the new remote and was all excited to try it out on my ipod touch. I had a dock for it, and it came with one of the original remotes. I thought with this one I could select certain song and playlists, but when I got it, It could only do what the original one could. I even did a test, and they both worked the exact same way. If you have the original (which comes free with most macs and docks) don't spend $19.99 on this one.

The remote is pretty and works well - but the factory-installed battery died 2 weeks after I started using the remote.

    The new Remote is horrible!

    • Written by from Kalispell

Not only does it add an unnecessary button, but with larger fingers you will be very frustrated within minutes. The comfortable raised convex buttons have been replaced by scooped concave buttons that are NOT ergonomically natural and complicate use by any man with average sized fingers.
This is a perfect example of: "If it's not broken... Don't fix it!"
Although the aluminum case is nice, the feel and function has been significantly diminished.

I am a HUGE Apple fan, but this remote is a FAILURE!

    • Written by from Cluj-Napoca

The remote is the most usefull in presentatins keynotes. Too bad apple had not thought yet to include a laser beamer.
When going on presentation you have to have 2 gadgets in yourhand. :(

    Pretty Good

    • Written by from Chieri, TO

I bought the white apple remote back in 2007 and it broke after one month, so three years later, I decided to pay 20 euros for the newer remote, first of all the design is AMAZING in comparison to the white one which was truly appalling, it works great and works with my old ipod dock. Only problem is it doesn't work with VLC and the range isn't fantastic. Nevertheless, its a good product and does what it needs to do WELL.

At first I was hesitant but now I am glad I went ahead and got it.

    • Written by from Anchorage

This little remote is great. At first I though, "Why would I need it?" "It is the same thing I already have with the white remote."

Well it is much better. For one it is probably three inches long which is better for fitting in your hand than the white remote. The center button in the wheel is actually a "select" button. Which is the same as the play button to an extent. Off hand there were a few things the "select button" could do that the play button couldn't but can not remember exactly what they were. Perhaps just a fluke of my memory.

Plus it matches up with my Mac Book Pro nicely and guess what it will match up nicely with my iPad when I get one of those as well.

No I am not just a person who gets all things Apple just things that work great for me.

    Two thumbs down.

    • Written by from fremont

I was extremely excited after ordering my remote and counted the days until its arrival.
however when i received it i had trouble syncing it to my macbook. I tried and tried and no luck. knowing that i just had bought my computer i was confident that i my computer was compatible with it and i must be doing it wrong. well with a closer look on apple.com i discovered that for some stupid reason the apple remote is not compatible with the newest edition macbook...seriously apple?
it works on every other "new" product available...except ofcourse the most popular and frequently bought white macbook.
well i feel like this should be posted at a very clear place before purchase so that this wont happen to anyone else.
    good one apple.
    way to drop the ball..

    Great design, exquisite materials

    • Written by from Mexico

The new design improves greatly over the old one in terms of ergonomics and button functionality. The aluminum body is simply gorgeous to hold and look. It's way bigger than the original remote but this feature also makes it feel more comfortable on your hands.
The only thing that seems to be lacking is the availability of a click-wheel instead of the 4-function circular button.
So, do you really need a remote for your Mac when you can easily emulate its functions with an iPhone or iPod Touch? Well it depends; functional-wise many of the remote apps available for said devices, offer a lot more functionality that what off-the-box this remote offers. There's a few software packages out there that supplement the remote's feature set with many more options but the combo is more expensive than the downloads from the App store. The thing here is, if you go the iPhone/iPod route, you'll end-up reducing your phone's autonomy in terms of battery and you'll be regretting dropping your $600 dollar phone or $200 iPod quite a lot more than a $20 remote. Think about it!
