    Love the new design!

It makes sense to have the volume buttons and the menu/home button separate. The new design is also a big win. It's larger (i.e., easier to find when it slides down the couch cushions), and feels more substantial. I also love the way it "matches" my newer Apple products like my MacBook Pro. It's a great accessory to the aluminum unibody!

The new remote is worth buying, just a little disappointed at apple for making the first product that I have ever owned from them that doesn't have the apple LOGO. what a bummer, other than that it is awesome!!!!

    Why no Clickwheel?

I would have liked to see a clickwheel on the remote control like on the ipods.

    But anyway, great product!

    New Remote Worth Purchasing

The new apple remote feels better with a fresh new contoured body and is extremely reminiscent of the silver nano. It's new length fits in your hand without getting lost if you have long hands like i do. It matches all of the aluminum products beautifully and is definitely worth getting if you enjoy a matching home entertainment system.

Cons- 19 dollars always seemed a bit steep to me for a simple remote, but I still think it's a great piece of hardware.

Recently purchased three of these new remotes, 2 of them for 2 apple tv's. These remotes look so much more mature and elegant when laying on a coffee table versus the white plastic ones. Finally, the Apple TV remote does not look like a toy. As for the performance, that extra button is actually pretty handy. Makes it more intuitive to use. THe look and feel of this remote is certainly worth the price of $19.00.

    It's a remote!

I like it. It is nice.

The new length and weight gives it a nice feel. The menu button and play button are still different, but the middle is still able to be used as the select button. It seems like there is redundancy and for the sake of design the extra button was added.

It matches my MBA which is what I got it for. However it seems to be all design and no functionality.

That is my take on it. The old plastic one is still nice.

Great remote. Way better than the plastic white except for the fact that it doesn't have a magnet in it. So if u have an iMac, you can't stick it to the screen. But I use a macbook pro anyways. Goes great with Remote Buddy (downladable right in the download section) Buy it!!

This is way bigger (longer) than I thought. This new remote is about an inch longer than the previous gen. Unlike the rumor about the clickwheel, the wheel is just a four-way button :( Don't understand the reason of having one more button that just makes the remote ugly. Battery cover on the back is especially ugly.

    Is it magnetic?

Yes and No. It does stick to the magnetic clasp on my black MacBook. (I think it is the battery in the remote)

Does it have a Click Wheel?
No. At least I haven't gotten it to work on anything.

Is it just the old remote in new form factor?
No. It has an extra button. (the select button in the middle of the arrow keys). Bringing the total up from 6 to 7 buttons.

    Feels yucky in my hands

The design is pretty. The weight is nice. But, the brushed metal finish feels bad in my hand in a way that makes me uncomfortable to touch it in the same way that it's uncomfortable to hear fingernails on a chalkboard.

If all they did was smooth it out or go back to the old plastic it wouldn't have this problem. It makes me wonder if they actually tested it out with various people to see what their reaction to the feel of it is instead of just the look.

I'll be returning mine or will be happy to trade for the old one if I can find one.

Apple, this is AWESOME. The first remote was a TOTAL fail compared to this. This thing is the toughest, smallest piece of machinery THAT works. :P

The nicest feature of the last plastic version, was precisely that you can stick it to the built-in magnets of the screen... Although aluminum is more resistant hehe :)

    IT'S ALUMINUM - A NON Ferrous metal -
Translation - No iron content - ie, non magnetic.

or for the laymen - It won't stick o other metal.

I was disapointed when i bought this wonderful remote and tried to put it on the side of my iMac like i did for my old ine. Wrong first of all the back surface is not flat its curvedd for design which doesnt have enough surface area to stick to the side of the imac.Later I tried sticking a stronger extrenal magnet to it and fould out its not magnetic at all. I thought it was magnetic.Overall it's a great remote and i like the ipod click wheel volume control too!
