Aluminum Remote DOES work with other programs

    • Written by from Portola Valley

Another reviewer falsely claimed the remote does not work with any other programs other than iTunes and FrontRow. I use it all the time with presentations in Powerpoint and Keynote (Keynote is far superior to Powerpoint, just FYI) :-)

    Apple Remote Dents Easily

    • Written by from MANCHESTER

My apple remote dented the first day I had it. I've had my iPod for 4 years and it doesn't have any marks, so I thought this remote was going to be as sturdy. However, I'm a little disappointed to find out that it is not. Apple should make a skin or a thin case to cover the apple remotes. I can't say "look at my cool remote now for my awesome new Macbook Pro" without saying "look at this big dent on it too!" Not impressed. Cases would be nice.

    Pretty Cool

Clever gadget, just really thin, even for small hands. Very useful otherwise, no complaints so far.

    need improvement but great!

    • Written by from Chesterfield

This is really convenient and great, however you have to aim the remote right at the macbook in order for it to work. You can't go too far either. It would be nice to add the laser pointer to this as well.

    Looks good with a MBP

    • Written by from Tampa

Looks good as it matches the color of the MBP. really professional look for Powerpoint and Keynote presentations. Pity they made something so sleek and didn't think to integrate a laser pointer however, or at least a second model with a laser inside.

    How to Unwrap!

    • Written by from Anchorage

Purchased it at local retail store, could not figure out how to open "package"; store didn't know. Note arrow on bottom, this is beginning of a sticky strip circling case's edge. Peel this off, then open case with tiny screwdriver - which also gives access to instructions/warranty booklets inside case.

    Pretty Good

    • Written by from Chieri, TO

I bought the white apple remote back in 2007 and it broke after one month, so three years later, I decided to pay 20 euros for the newer remote, first of all the design is AMAZING in comparison to the white one which was truly appalling, it works great and works with my old ipod dock. Only problem is it doesn't work with VLC and the range isn't fantastic. Nevertheless, its a good product and does what it needs to do WELL.

    Great design, exquisite materials

    • Written by from Mexico

The new design improves greatly over the old one in terms of ergonomics and button functionality. The aluminum body is simply gorgeous to hold and look. It's way bigger than the original remote but this feature also makes it feel more comfortable on your hands.
The only thing that seems to be lacking is the availability of a click-wheel instead of the 4-function circular button.
So, do you really need a remote for your Mac when you can easily emulate its functions with an iPhone or iPod Touch? Well it depends; functional-wise many of the remote apps available for said devices, offer a lot more functionality that what off-the-box this remote offers. There's a few software packages out there that supplement the remote's feature set with many more options but the combo is more expensive than the downloads from the App store. The thing here is, if you go the iPhone/iPod route, you'll end-up reducing your phone's autonomy in terms of battery and you'll be regretting dropping your $600 dollar phone or $200 iPod quite a lot more than a $20 remote. Think about it!

New Remote is alright, just like the old one

    • Written by from Bozeman

I don't think that the metal version of this mouse is all that different from the older white one. If I hadn't lost my white one I wouldn't have purchased a new metal one. I do like how you can use it to control a presentation and frontrow is always nice.

    Beautiful

    • Written by from Phoenix

I bought this remote today and I absolutely love it! the plastic case it was in was slim, but once out of the packaging this thing feels just awesome in your hand. function may take some getting used to, I find myself accidentally pushing the center button while using the arrow wheel, it seems rather unnecessary since there's now a button with the same function to the right of the menu. even with that I would absolutely recommend this remote over the ugly white plastic remote that came with the apple tv or your mac.

    Great product

Remote works great as advertised. A MAJOR suggestion for improvement would be to add an integrated laser pointer. That is all this product is missing.

    Key color

    • Written by

While I agree that the remote is nicely designed, the black keys do not coordinate with the keyboard, and I wonder why they did this. Actually, I would have preferred a black key keyboard with the aluminum, matching the black Apple logo of my new iMac, but with the white keys, I would have now preferred white buttons on the remote. I realize this is nit-picking, but Apple is all about design continuation.

Overall Good Improvement with New Design

    • Written by from Washington

Overall this newly designed remote is an improvement on the previous design and definitely feels more in line with Apple's products. The new remote is a non-magnetic aluminum material that is much longer and includes an extra button compared to the original white plastic remote.

I love the look and feel of the remote but am having a hard time adjusting to the new significantly longer remote as it does not rest as well in the hand as the previous remote. Also, since the wheel control is flush with the remote, it will take some getting used to - whereas the previous design allowed easy and quick use without looking since the control wheel was elevated. The play/pause button is moved from the center of the control wheel to below and replaced with a "select" button. There is a menu button as before.

This remote works excellent with any Apple product with an IR receiver manufactured after 2005 - including AppleTVs, Mac Minis, iMacs, Mac Books, and more.

    Same functionality, better looks.

    • Written by from Ottawa

Overall, nice and solid but has the same functionality as the last one. This is great because I use one with my mac mini HTPC and another with my apple hi-fi so I always get the mixed up since they look the same.

The aluminum casing is amazing but I would have liked to have an option with white buttons to match my other accessories like the wireless keyboard and mouse as it feels a little bit out of place.

I would have liked to see a clickwheel on the remote control like on the ipods.

    But anyway, great product!

    New Remote Worth Purchasing

    • Written by from Atlanta

The new apple remote feels better with a fresh new contoured body and is extremely reminiscent of the silver nano. It's new length fits in your hand without getting lost if you have long hands like i do. It matches all of the aluminum products beautifully and is definitely worth getting if you enjoy a matching home entertainment system.

Cons- 19 dollars always seemed a bit steep to me for a simple remote, but I still think it's a great piece of hardware.
