    Pretty Good

    I bought the white apple remote back in 2007 and it broke after one month, so three years later, I decided to pay 20 euros for the newer remote, first of all the design is AMAZING in comparison to the white one which was truly appalling, it works great and works with my old ipod dock. Only problem is it doesn't work with VLC and the range isn't fantastic. Nevertheless, its a good product and does what it needs to do WELL.

    This little remote is great. At first I though, "Why would I need it?" "It is the same thing I already have with the white remote."

    Well it is much better. For one it is probably three inches long which is better for fitting in your hand than the white remote. The center button in the wheel is actually a "select" button. Which is the same as the play button to an extent. Off hand there were a few things the "select button" could do that the play button couldn't but can not remember exactly what they were. Perhaps just a fluke of my memory.

    Plus it matches up with my Mac Book Pro nicely and guess what it will match up nicely with my iPad when I get one of those as well.

    No I am not just a person who gets all things Apple just things that work great for me.

    does not play vlc

    this remote has problems with vlc. ie the play/pause and the the central button do not work. Also when you press play/pause the itunes launches. Not an isolated incident...you can check in any forum before buying this item

    I was extremely excited after ordering my remote and counted the days until its arrival.
    however when i received it i had trouble syncing it to my macbook. I tried and tried and no luck. knowing that i just had bought my computer i was confident that i my computer was compatible with it and i must be doing it wrong. well with a closer look on apple.com i discovered that for some stupid reason the apple remote is not compatible with the newest edition macbook...seriously apple?
    it works on every other "new" product available...except ofcourse the most popular and frequently bought white macbook.
    well i feel like this should be posted at a very clear place before purchase so that this wont happen to anyone else.
    good one apple.

    Great design, exquisite materials

    The new design improves greatly over the old one in terms of ergonomics and button functionality. The aluminum body is simply gorgeous to hold and look. It's way bigger than the original remote but this feature also makes it feel more comfortable on your hands.
    The only thing that seems to be lacking is the availability of a click-wheel instead of the 4-function circular button.
    So, do you really need a remote for your Mac when you can easily emulate its functions with an iPhone or iPod Touch? Well it depends; functional-wise many of the remote apps available for said devices, offer a lot more functionality that what off-the-box this remote offers. There's a few software packages out there that supplement the remote's feature set with many more options but the combo is more expensive than the downloads from the App store. The thing here is, if you go the iPhone/iPod route, you'll end-up reducing your phone's autonomy in terms of battery and you'll be regretting dropping your $600 dollar phone or $200 iPod quite a lot more than a $20 remote. Think about it!

    I was somewhat skeptical of getting this remote, since there were a few remarks made regarding the new button layout and shape, but then I got it for Christmas. You won't gain any additional features (minus the additional center button), but the feel of the remote has improved greatly. It's much much slimmer and the metal gives it a sleek look and a sturdy build.

    Originally, I planned to use it for my macbook, but it ended up becoming my Apple TV remote.

    Its a great product- don't hesitate getting it!

    Improvements to perfection

    The function of the remote is perfect. Using frontrow or apple tv or giving a presentation with keynote. The new design is very comfortable, especially for bigger hands.
    A lot of thinking went into that product, you can feel it in every detail. The buttons are different curved so that you can feel the different buttons. The surface feels like the new unibody notebooks, very hightec, heavy high price. I am just in love with that product it's improved in every way, highly recomend to buy it even if you allready have one if you
    -use keynote: better grip looks better, easier to reach menu button so that you can quickly switch into slide overview

    -If you like thoughtfully designt products that provide a feeling of quality in your hands.

    i bought it i thaught it will work on my new macbook but it was a total disappointment until i found out that it works with my ipod thats what cheered me up a liitle but the sleek shape i loved the shape but i was dissapointed about the capability!

    This remote is great to have...I never even thought about the convenience of a remote for a laptop, but now that I have one, I love it! And it really did work straight out of the box. Just press menu and you're good -- from there you can choose, via remote, between movies, photos, videos, music, etc. Press escape to get back to the main computer options. Tiny little thing fits perfectly with the Mac in my Incase sleeve.

    Worked out of the box

    Works out of the box with my MacBook Pro 15". No software to install, no sync, nothing is require on your part for this beauty to work. Thin, aluminum, long enough to fit comfortable in your hand.

    This remote works amazingly well- I can even use it from directly behind my notebook! The product is a work of art, and like most of Apple's products, makes me feel like I live in the future!
    Overall, a 9/10 rating (could have thrown in some bonus features). I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT

    Beautiful piece of design work, precision machined, feels nice in your hand-design makes it easy to pick up and hold, buttons are good, angle of reception fantastic. It is a piece of art. Impressed. I like good design and quality manufacturing.

    Since it is begging to be picked up and held, I want to watch all my videos on the mac mini. :) I wish I could have more use for this precision manufactured item than being a quality remote for video and audio, maybe more buttons, a keyboard on the back, a mic, a motion detector......

    BTW, and of course it just works as its designed to.

    Remote and new macbook

    The new remote does indeed work wonderfully-- just NOT on the new unibody polycarbonate macbook that I just bought, with the assurance from the sales guy that the Apple Remote would work with it.

    I now know that my macbook has no infrared capability (if I had known, I would have spring for the macbook pro: too late now, though)-- and wonder whether Apple will produce a USB adapter as an add-on?

    Plus: if Apple is going to delete features from its "consumer" line of laptops in order to induce sales of its "pro" line, then they ought to point this out to their sales people!

    Let me clear things up

    Just to help everyone out there... this remote is the exact same thing as the previous, white apple remote, it just has a different exterior design. It uses IR (infrared) to work with all apple remote enabled products that support IR remotes (not the new, white macbook). But it is the same thing as the previous remote, it is just made in aluminum to look better with the new MacBook Pro Series. I hope this helps clear stuff up for everyone.

    If you're reading this, there's a good chance you're looking for a remote for your mac. You can stop looking and get this one (and maybe a nice app version for your iPhone or Touch). For 19 big ones, you're gonna love how cool and simple this thing is. No, it won't do a song and dance, or flash, or make a phone call... but it will put a smile on your face once you pair it up and press the menu button. :-) It gives you all the necessary functions, and feels great in your hand. Pairing is a cinch. One beef: No off/sleep button. Still, best deal on this site.

    I got this remote as a hanukkah gift, and after about 3 weeks of owning it I can say that I love it. It goes perfect with my 13" MacBook Pro, and it sits right beside me on my desk. A really useful app is 'Remote Buddy' which lets you use your remote to control every application you've got. I strongly recommend this remote to your if youre thinking of purchasing it.
