I loved this little remote it was awesome now, since the upgrade to Lion it doesn't work anymore. Apple where is Front Row it was the best app if your computer is your entertainment system.

Works awesome with Snow Leopard, opens Front Row, but Lion does't have Front Row!!! What!?

Did they bring back Front Row in Mt. Lion?

Remote I loved no longer works in full with Lion

    • Written by from West Des Moines

I was very un-pleased to discover that the Apple remote was reduced to a volume control with the new update of OS X Lion. With the removal of FrontRow I'm not sure what I'm going to do with this remote. I would like to see them bring other software to the table, but I'm afraid Apple has limited vision on the future of the Apple remote. Perhaps there will be a work-around in the coming days. For now, the Apple remote is a paper-weight. It gets 2 stars out of five... It used to get a perfect 5!

    Mountain Lion+apple remote=0

    • Written by from Williamstown

I had Snow Leopard before upgraded my OS X to Mountain Lion. When I had Snow Leopard, this product was great (Front Row and all when you press the menu button). Now with Mountain Lion, the menu button just doesn't work and now I just mainly use the remote for iTunes. I wish this functionality disparity was advertised before I paid $20 for Mountain Lion or the same amount for this remote...

Beautifully made, works well, but for what?!

    • Written by from Bronxville

With Lion Apple removed FrontRow which is the ONLY reason i bought the remote in the first place. The remote works well when you are mid-movie, or already listening to music, but that's annoying. I am using this remote on my Mac Mini that is a media center, so I have to use the keyboard/trackpad to do anything to only THEN use the remote.

The divide is gorgeous and well made, it works perfectly when "primed", but with the removal of FrontRow it just doesn't make sense. Please put an app on the app store for front row, please!

This thing is a remote not a presenter!!!

    • Written by from Sault Sainte Marie

Works with Mid 2010 Macbook Pro despite what some of the reviews say (even when configuring your macbook pro order the apple remote is an additional accessory option).

Only forward and back with powerpoint 2008/2011, no white or black screen option.

Line of sight only severely limits this REMOTES ability to be used as a presenter tool.

I wish apple made an RF version with a laser pointer.

It's useless now with the latest software.

    • Written by from Sunderland

This used to be a great product. It worked seamlessly with Front Row, enabling you to share your music, photos, and videos with everyone from across the room using only this sleek and well designed remote.
Then apples latest software, Lion comes along, tons of people buy it thus making this product useless because the media browser Front Row has been removed.
If anyone is using an earlier software on their Mac then by all means, purchase this cool little thing.
But for anyone else using Lion, lets hope Apple hears our cry for Front Row so we can continue using the darn things.

    Mostly Pointless

    • Written by from La Crosse

The remote works great, but found out after purchasing the remote is almost completely pointless when used with Mac OS X: Lion. The "menu" button is useless on the mac, as the former only use for this button was for "Front Row" which was discontinued. The remote works perfect on the Apple TV, and is the only device I would recommend the use of this on.

Total waist if you have the original

    • Written by from Cambridge

I got the new remote and was all excited to try it out on my ipod touch. I had a dock for it, and it came with one of the original remotes. I thought with this one I could select certain song and playlists, but when I got it, It could only do what the original one could. I even did a test, and they both worked the exact same way. If you have the original (which comes free with most macs and docks) don't spend $19.99 on this one.

    Don't drop it

Nice looking product, but drop it 2 feet on a tile floor and it will never work again.

    Nice design, but completely unreliable

    • Written by from BRONX

The main problem with the apple remote is poor design of the battery bay. When replacing the battery, the contacts must make full contact with the battery cell. Unfortunately, the contacts can be inadvertently bent out of form, causing the remote to malfunction and become inoperative.

    Great design, but...

    • Written by from Winter Park

Don't drop it. It's an odd thing to say for such a nice little metal remote that should be so solid, but if you are watching your apple tv and the remote happens to slide off the armrest of your couch, have fun trying to get the remote to work again. Usually if I pop the battery cover off, take the battery out, and then put it all back together, it works, but sometimes not.

    Broken after 18 months

    • Written by from Cary

It feels good and it's fun to use, but the right directional arrow button on mine just stopped working and it's only a year and a half old. Pretty aggravating.

    A little bit disappointed

    • Written by from charleston

The apple remote is built well, and nearly flawless. I was very impressed with the design. However, as a costumer, I am a little disappointed. The Apple Remote does not work with the Macbook, because it does not have Infrared. I should have done more research, before I bought this product. However, it would have been nice to know that this product wouldn't work with my compute, before I bought it. This is probably the first time I have ever been upset, with an Apple product.

Not for use as a PRESENTER!

    • Written by from Cedar Hills

Come on Apple. You have the best computers. We now need a tool to present in the corporate world. This is a joke for presenting. Not helpful. Need something much more powerful.

All the respect in the world for the Apple Products, but this is not a work tool.

    Three months life?

    • Written by from Los Angeles

I got an Apple TV as a gift, while very impressed by the features of the Apple TV, my disappointment came when the remote control stopped working at three months of use, I thought it was a battery issue, so I replaced it, just to notice that the original was corroded already it just did not work with the new battery I put in.

    Very limited functionality

    • Written by from North Wales

When I bought it I thought it will work with all iphone/ipod touch apps but this is not true. Also it offers very limited control. You have to constantly go back to your device to start stop application or switch to a new video on youtube that defeates the purpose of having a remote. Apple you can do a better job than this....

    Hard to press buttons.

    • Written by from Miami

The remote is beautiful in every respect except usage. Pressing buttons is hard because of the lack of tactile differentiation. The main issue is with the directional buttons vs the center button. If one is not looking it's easy to confuse them and press the wrong button. So you might find yourself having to look at the remote to see where you are pressing.

That's unacceptable. There is no reason Apple can't make a remote that's tactile enough to easily differentiate among keys and easily press without looking. Actually they did, the old Apple remote works perfectly in this regard.
