    Very sleek and basic

    • Written by from Clarence Center

I bought one with my last MacBook Pro, a 13" mid-2012 non-retina and when it had to be replaced because of numerous failures, I upgraded to a retina pro and I didn't realize that there isn't an IR receiver on the retinas sadly. Now it's just an extra in case we lose the one for the AppleTV.

    Very Disappointed

    • Written by from Monroe

My remote stopped working a little over 5 months. It doesn't completely not work it just will not allow me to move to the left and sometimes not select "done". I have tried everything and I've been in a billion forums trying to see if I can solve this problem but no help.

    Bad quality

    • Written by from Bogota

The design is great, but the quality of this remotes are not what you expected from apple products. The buttons gets damage easily and the compatibility with mac are not the same since OS lion. You might use an iOS device to replace it, so ¿Why to buy it?

    Apple TV REmote

    • Written by from Guelph

May I just say, this hateful little remote is my most despised piece of technology ever. Whoever designed it was going for cute, cute, cute - only. I really must find a replacement or will likely ditch the Apple TV. It is not worth the useless frustration.

Was fine until I updated to the MacBook Retina. No IR!!

    • Written by from Brooklyn

I sat there for quite a while trying to pair the remote to my new 15" MacBook Pro Retina, changing batteries and the like before Googling and finding out it doesn't have infrared! Now how do I control video apps like VLC, when plugged into the televsion without having to get up? I don't! Crying and annoying shame I find.

    Simply Great, but doesn't last!

    • Written by from Regina

Yes, this is a great little remote, simple, easy to use. The battery lasted almost 2 years with daily use. However, recently the fast fwd part of the button ceased to work. I'm guessing it wore out, as all other functions are fine. I thought something this simple would work forever, but now its become a pain for navigating through the Apple TV home screen. Wondering what to do, buy a new one, or just use the remote on my iPad/iPhone? Here is hoping it's just a glitch and will come back to life. For now I'll just use my iPad or iPhone for that feature. The pain, oh the pain!

    Needs a Home Button

    • Written by from Frazee

I don't have problems with losing this remote due to its small size, like lots of people seem to complain of. But it sure does need a Home button. i get *so* tired of trying to back out of deeply nested menus. Very frustrating! Further, sliding from one side to the other of the central navigation ring is just that little bit too easy - too easy to hit something you never meant to. It's all smooth and sleek - and maybe needs to be a little less so.

    worst remote ever

I love the apple tv, but the remote is horrible. Its extremely small, and we lose the thing all the time. I ended up programming my harmony remote to control the apple tv.

    Why so small

Did they really think this was a good idea? I lose this thing every day. Apple, are you listening? Your customers hate this thing. Fix it please!

    Tiny remote, giant hands

    • Written by from Dallas

I lose it constantly (blame it in the kids I guess). When I hold it on my hand I feel like I have giant's hands. I'm developing a hand complex.

Honestly though, just not that functional. Navigating is a pain and entering a Netflix or any other password makes me want to scream.

    Nice Remote

    • Written by from INVERCARGILL

Not long brought the apple remote. The remote is well made and the IR signal is good, it works just fine. I have all my CD's on my hard drive and have not long purchased a quality music system that I plug my macbook into via the USB port. From what can I see in the marketplace more and more people are doing this and there are some good quality DAC's out there. I find it great, the convenience, adding to up next, and the playlists that I have set up. But there is one big BUT, there is no longer Front Row. Front Row was good for the high visibility, you could see the screen from quite a distance. I'm a little disappointed Apple, feel a little cheated. Hope you bring it back.

    tiny, lost all the time

    • Written by from dayton

ridiculous, tiny design insures that this remote is constantly lost. This remote is can be easily hidden by another remote control. If you have children, or furniture for that matter, you will be constantly searching for this remote. At least its "elegant". I would give this 0 stars if possible.

    I hate this thing

    • Written by from Chicago

My one complaint about Apple TV is how ridiculously small this stupid remote is. We get it Apple, you want to make stuff look cool, but come on, this thing is so impractical. I honestly don't know how you own this thing without it getting lost--it's constantly slipping into my couch cushions and is impossible to find because of how small it is.

Now, I have to buy a new one and I'm sure it won't work right out of the box. Apple, make a reasonably sized remote!

    Size DOES matter!!!!!

    • Written by from Milford

Some things are just too small. Just because you can make something the thickness of a bookmark doesn't mean you should. If you have children you will loose this darn thing 20 times a week and it can slip and hide anywhere.

    does the job

    • Written by from Delray Beach

we have this with our apple tv. but can i say, so small! with our bigger remotes, it's already a hassle looking for them in between the couch cushions, but this is even worse. also, ends up controlling nearby MacBooks and i wish the battery was easier to replace. in other words, AA or even AAA would be nice. otherwise it does the job. maybe we'll ghetto tape it to our giant remote so it won't get lost so often and for so long.

    Needs a HOME button

    • Written by from Frazee

Works great, elegant, matches the nifty MBA and MBP products in the lounge. But it is *really* annoying to have to repeatedly click the Menu button in order to back out of the kids' entertainment choices, which can be nested four or five clicks deep. Good grief. There needs to be some way to quickly get back to the starting menu. Please, Apple?

    Handy and inexpensive

    • Written by from Toronto

I'm surprised at all people who say this remote is easy to lose. I just keep it with my other remotes. For 20 bucks, this is a handy remote to have to control my music from across the room. Works fine with my Macbook Pro on OSX. And in case you were wondering, the infrared is located on the MBP's front, so even when I use it in clamshell mode, it works fine.

Sleek, but easy to lose and hard to use

    • Written by from Belmont

Slim and elegant, but I lost it within a couple of months and had to buy another. When it came it was enclosed in a plastic case that was impossible to open. After trying all conceivable ways for 15 mins, I had to go to google to find out how many others had the same problem as I did. The plastic wrap around the edges was just impossible to detect for far too many, and no instructions on how to open were given. I am a professor at a top engineering school, and I give to the designers an A for art and an F for functionality
