    Another disappointing iPad accessory.

    Pros/Cons:

    1. Your iPad will be wobbly left and right when sitting in this dock and you'll constantly wonder whether you have a firm connection. The connector itself seems pretty fragile and it's just a matter of time before I bump it hard enough to snap the connector off.

    2. Like the Keyboard Dock, you have to remove your iPad from any case. That is a major pain.

    3. The angle is more upright than the Keyboard Dock, which is better for nightstand placement if you want to watch movies on your iPad.

    4. The rubber base is not grippy enough. Every time I push the iPad's "Home" button, the whole assembly slides across my desk or nightstand. The Keyboard Dock is better in this regard, because it's heavier.

    5. You can't use your iPad in landscape orientation. This alone is a deal breaker.

A proper dock design would allow A) placement of the iPad in or out of its case, B) portrait or landscape orientation with the connector on a cable or in some kind of rotating assembly, C) adjustable viewing angles. In other words, a flexible stand would be much more useful than a fixed dock, in practice.

Was this useful? Another disappointing iPad accessory.

    Worthless!

Save your money on this one. Apple dropped the ball on this dock (and their case). For these two items not to work together is criminal. Or maybe smart business. You buy the iPad, case and dock. You cannot charge/dock while in the case so you remove. Dock is flimsy enough that you knock dock and iPad off table. Since it is user error, buy new iPad. Is this how they will reach a million units sold this year?

Seriously though, wait as I am sure there are a multitude of companies working on compatible dock and case.

Pointless if you use a case

Thought that Apple of all "designers" would have thought that those of us who use cases might like to dock our iPads as well - instead of making the support bar have enough room for even the Apple designed case or adjustable so that any case (or an iPhone even) could be used on this dock made it an immediate return and exchange for a spare power adapter.

I picked mine up from the Apple Store and the sales rep told me that it A) came with a cable & B) it works with the case. Got it home, unpacked it all and found neither to be true. Now i have to take it back but the store is out of my way.

    Bad design

There is no adjustment designed into the dock for protective covers
You can only use the dock on a bare naked iPad
It also seems a little tipsy
    Don't wast your money.
I made one out of a piece of pine that works great

Okay first I wanna say that this is a great dock for the iPad. People say it's wobbly but with mine on my night stand it doesn't move I don't know where people are putting there's for it to wobble I'm glad I didn't listen to the reviews because there false. Then people don't like the fact that you cant use it when the iPad is in the case, solution- TAKE IT OUT!!!!!!!! or go on to YouTube and watch the instructions on how to make the case fit on the dock.

The concept of a docking station is a good idea, but this product is a failure. The spacing on the connection port does not allow for adjustments. Therefore, if you have your iPad in a case you will never be able to use this accessory.

Horrible for iPad, perfect for iPhone

I bought this dock online with the iPad. I was excited to see the sleek pad and dock, but once I put the iPad in the iPad case, the dock became a white brick. It sat in my drawer for a month...
    ..
    ..
...until I tried putting my iphone in it! It is really a perfect fit for my iphone (much better than the old round dock).

Love these docks. I have six of them. Two in the bedroom, in the kitchen and here next to my computer. Simple, clean, and keeps the surface area available for your desk. I won't upgrade to lightening devices until I have docks for them.

    Totally useless

I made the mistake of purchasing this when I ordered the iPad online. It is totally useless. Since I also use the black Apple Case, this Dock will not even allow the iPad to be plug into the connector unless you take it out of the Case - a very difficult task!

Being the innovative and responsible company, Apple should recall this Dock.

    Good without the case...

This dock does what it says it does. It charges in a way that lets you still use the iPad by holding it up in a presenting posture where you can still work away on projects or finish the end of that movie you were watching before the battery alerted you that it was needing to recharge. It is also a great companion to the wireless iPad keyboard and the option to plug speakers in and play music is nice. The only drawback is that I have to take my smart case off to use it, but that is not a big issue.

mega dittos to all who found the case and this piece of junk do not work together. Even without the case it stands wobbly only in profile, yet most people want to watch movies even type in landscape. Everyone who bought one should get money back!

I gave only one star because I could not give no stars. By the way, the iPad is greatest info processor since the Mac. I do not leave home without it :)

    I can't believe it

    • Written by from Boca Raton

I bought the dock at the same time that I bought the IPad and the case. Like the other reviewers, it is hard to believe that Apple designed the case so that it could not be used with the dock. Why? They do not do things without reason. There must be a profit incentive in there somewhere. After buying this, will we all find that a new case will be introduced in month or two that does work? Are they encouraging broken IPads? I played with it a long time simply because I could not believe it and thought that I was doing something wrong. It is just not possible that they made that kind of "mistake" while designing these products. What is going on?

States is works with iPad 1. This is false.

As you can see it says it works with the iPad 1, however, the iPad 1 is too thick to fit down into the charging port and be able to stay on the dock. Pointless. I literally had to sell my iPad 1 to get an iPad to fit this dock.

    volume problem

while i like having the iPad on the dock,
once an audio cable is connected to the dock the volume control seems to be disabled in the iPad. so there is no 'local' control on the iPad.

disappointing as this is an apple product.

I use this dock on the counter in my kitchen for my iPad to run Sonos or to FB. I don't care about the case when I'm home and it's not "that" big a deal when you're traveling to pull it out of the case for dock usage.

Perhaps unlike others, I don't carry around my iPad with me everywhere I go. I have an iPhone for the short trips and only really use my iPad away from home when I'm gone for a day or longer.

It does what it say it does, no more, no less.......

    Case Compatability-NOT

Before you buy this consider whether you are going to be putting your iDevice in a case. While the Apple cases are great they don't work well with the dock. Taking the case on and off to use the dock just isn't practical in daily use. I'd recommend skipping this purchase.

    Disappointed!

I bought a dock thinking it would be nice way to use as well as charge my iPad. If you have no protective case or skin the it works ok. If however you want to protect this $500+ investment, your out of luck because any additional thickness in the iPad causes it not to fit into the dock. . It does work with the folding case by Apple of which I finally purchased, but forget the Otterbox cases. Disappointed!

The dock fits perfectly with my case!

I love my dock - it displays my iPad as a digital picture frame and charges it when it is not in use.

We have the component cables connected to the dock, so it makes watching video or listening to audio a cinch. Looks perfect next to my stereo and HDTV.

For the people who gave 1 star reviews for not fitting with a case on, there are cases that fit the dock, with the case on. No point in giving the dock a poor review or rating because some cases don't allow the iPad to dock, while others do. My iPad dock does exactly what it's supposed to do - if you use a case, I recommend checking to make sure that it's designed to fit the dock before purchasing. I had no trouble docking my iPad in the case. I give the dock 5/5 stars.

    A Point-By-Point Review ...

-Light weight lends itself for easy portability. If it were too heavy and allowed IPad to undock without resistance (like iPhone dock) then it wouldn't be as light for travel. It also wouldn't hold the heavier-than-iPhone product stable.

-If your not a case-user--because you like the natural feel of Apple's products--it allows you to stand your iPad up by your bed or move to desk and avoid scratches that may come from laying it on down a hard surface.

-It's nice to stand up in front of you e.g. as an adjunct to watching a sports game while running live game app that shadows the game.

-iPad is an always-ready internet device with a full day battery. This stand is wonderful to use without the plug and just as a stand for easy movement around your house.

-Stand + Bluetooth keyboard combination is more flexible than Keyboard dock. It allows you to move around and share bluetooth keyboard with other devices. iPhone 4.0 will allow bluetooth keyboard usage and your computer likely does too.

-The dock-attached-to-keyboard version may obsolete itself if the dock changes for future iPads (which happened when the iPhone 3g replaced the first iPhone. This way you can get years more use out of your keyboard and only have to buy another lone dock.

-Under normal pressure or slightly more aggressive pressure the iPad doesn't knock over.

-It's footprint allows you to stand the iPod on very narrow surfaces.

-Dock it with picture frame slide show. Photo program includes implementation of playlists and effects such as "orgami" photo transitions which combines several photos on one screen with a cool folding-accordion transitory effect.
