I have two--one in the office at one at home. Neither wobble or any of the other complaints. My docks hold the iPad steady. So steady, in fact, that I cannot remove it with one hand.

    Simple. Sleek. Functional. Pure Apple.

    Pretty much useless

I thought this would make life easy to charge my ipad, but apparently apple put's no thought into half their accessories. I am guessing everyone in the world has a case, the apple case is awesome, which I have, but there is no way to actually use the dock with the case on the ipad and the ipad is very difficult to get in and out of the case. Apparently all the smart people worked on the ipad and none on accessories or you would think that would consider this when they make this stuff!

I like this dock station. I don't have a cover that stays on the iPad, because that defeats the awesomeness of the iPad. I have a protective sleeve that I slide it in and out of. I like this dock because I can stand the iPad in it and have a slideshow of pics on my desk, when I'm not using it. It also makes it easy to charge because it is standing instead of laying down taking up too much space. I love it.

Unforgiveable that this doesn't work with the case. Especially as its not easy to take the iPad out of the case to dock it. I can't believe Apple would produce something so useless - don't buy one.

    Not worth it

First off it should be aluminum at the price their asking, at least then it would actually match the device it's supposed to hold.

Next, it can only hold iPad vertical and it's wobbly at best.

Finally I fear that because it relies on the ipads connector to stay in place, I fear overtime the connector port on the iPad itself will get damaged.

    IPad dock with case

Paid almost 900.00 for the Ipad wifi/3G 64 gig. Thought it best to buy a case to protect it so I bought an Apple case. The Ipad won't charge when in the case using the dock. Review say to cut a slit in the bottom of the case. I shouldn't have to do that and expected more from Apple. Either don't buy the case or don't buy the dock.

It is well made, and does what you need it to do: hold your iPad upright while charging or syncing. It is in the exact same vein as the iPod docks that we have all seen come and go. They are lightweight but solid and make your i-doohicky look nice standing upright alongside your computer.

works with Contour iSee for iPad

I bought many diff cases for my iPad, and so far Contour iSee for iPad is the only case that allows me to put my iPad on the dock without removing the case. The case came with a stand, but when it's in portrait mode, I can't charge my device. Apple iPad Dock is small and nice, you can't use it with landscape mode but I can use my stand for this purpose.

I don't know why people are are complaining that you can use it as a stand and you can't use it with a case. The point of this product is to sync and charge your iPad not for a stand. If you want a stand get the iPad Keyboard Dock and take off the case, chances are you will not need a protective case when you plant it on a sturdy dock. I have enjoyed the iPad dock considering I do not use a case. It does what it is supposed to. I am sorry but i LOVE my dock so... If you want something that works as intended get this.

Your iPad wobbles if you put it in the dock. I guess Apple hate it when you protect your iPad with a case, because it doesn't work with a case around your iPad.

I modded the dock with a dremel, so that it works well with my iPad + case.

Doesn't work with the Apple iPad case.

In addition to the subject line, undocking can be an inconvenience depending where I've positioned it (I would have to use my tip of one figure to hold down the dock while lifting the iPad with the other). Limited to portrait mode only too.

Cannot use with the iPad case

I'm sorry I spent the money to buy this - after I put the Apple iPad case on the iPad, cannot use the docking station since the case sticks out too far to connect the two together.

Great if you only want 'portrait' and don't use a case.

    • Written by from Chicago

Technically, it does what it's supposed to do: hold the iPad in 'portrait' position; provide a dock connector for various compatible cables; provide and audio out port.

And if that's all you want and you don't use a case, you're set.

From a practical standpoint, that doesn't really work for about 90% of the iPad users. If you spend over $500 on an iPad and plan to carry it beyond the living room, you're going to put it into a case.

Even if you ONLY use it in your living room, you're still going to want a case to make it stand, unassisted, in either a portrait or landscape position.

And that's where the Dock becomes useless. Most cases aren't going to allow the Dock to be used without being removed: they are too thick at the contact point with the dock or don't provide a panel on the back that opens. If you have to remove your case to use the Dock, odds are you won't use the dock.

So, my Dock sits unused on my fireplace.

    *sigh*

    iPad Doc great

    • Written by from Napa

The doc works fine, and is compatible with the iPad charger cord and power supply. A better arrangement would be to include a power supply and cord so that the doc can function as designed on your desktop while you take the mobile power on the road

I don't understand why people are moaning that you can't sit the iPad on it's dock with the case attached because it's design is intended for syncing and charging your iPad and people also moan about the the fact the iPad wobbles when docked on the dock as said previously it's intention is to simply sync and charge the iPad and I have used it on the dock and mine hardly wobbles at all overall great product

does exactly what it's designed to do

I don't know what everyone is griping about. Anyone who wasn't born yesterday knows that docks for any device do are not designed to be used with accessory cases. The device is stable, and works beautifully. I can't believe those people who seem to think that just because their accessory case is Apple brand that means anything. It's simply not intended for use with accessory cases. I mean who wants a bulky case flopping around on top of their dock anyway? Give me a break. I'm in even more disbelief at all the people complaining that it doesn't dock in landscape. I'm embarrassed to be a fan of Apple computers because of the adolescent complaining that's so typical of its consumers.

    Not A Good Value

    • Written by from Weare

21 of 29 people found this useful

It does what it does, so it's functional, but it could stand some improvements. Unlike the iPod charger base, there's no convenient spot on the front of it to hold it down while you lift the iPad out, which makes undocking a rather awkward affair. Besides, gripping the iPad with only one hand to undock isn't very safe since the iPad is slippery. Better to make a dock that is either heavier or able to be affixed to a desktop surface (suction cup bottom, perhaps?) so that you can hold the iPad securely with both hands while undocking it. Finally, this little piece of ABS plastic probably cost Apple less than $1 to manufacture. Apple includes a little dock with an iPod or iPhone, and it's just stingy of Apple not to include one with a $500-$800 product.

For those with issues about using the dock with a case.

You should be aware that the iPad should not be charged while in the case since this will cause the battery to be hotter and lower it's life expectancy. You can read about battery life (and removing it from the case when charging) on this very website.

So I think it's actualy less likely that it's a flaw in the case/dock design and more likely a consideration.
