Horrible for iPad, perfect for iPhone

    • Written by from North Vancouver

I bought this dock online with the iPad. I was excited to see the sleek pad and dock, but once I put the iPad in the iPad case, the dock became a white brick. It sat in my drawer for a month...
    ..
    ..
...until I tried putting my iphone in it! It is really a perfect fit for my iphone (much better than the old round dock).

    Good without the case...

    • Written by from Columbus

This dock does what it says it does. It charges in a way that lets you still use the iPad by holding it up in a presenting posture where you can still work away on projects or finish the end of that movie you were watching before the battery alerted you that it was needing to recharge. It is also a great companion to the wireless iPad keyboard and the option to plug speakers in and play music is nice. The only drawback is that I have to take my smart case off to use it, but that is not a big issue.

Dock Works Fine with Otter Box Case

    • Written by from Palmer

I bought this docking station to primarily use to charge and to play i-tunes through my stereo. It works great for both uses. The only downsides are that it is a bit wobbly and that I'm not sure how to play video, charge, and music all at the same time without getting another cord. Not bad for what I use it for, but I wish that they would include all the necessary cords for charging.

Good for charging and light duty

    • Written by from Goleta

Good construction with non-skid surface on the bottom. It doesn't have enough oomph to be used as a place to work on your iPad in earnest, but it has a nice viewing angle. When docking my iPad, I always pick up the dock and connect the dock to the iPad, not the other way around, this way you put the least amount of stress on the connectors.

Features I'd like to see in a future model would be an adjustable viewing angle, swivel, more mass and surface area for a sturdier dock for working, and most of all, an accessory that holds the iPad using an L-shaped frame so it can be docked in the landscape position.

    Charging

    • Written by from Delanson

It was working fine and attached fine, but all of a sudden, it stopped charging my iPad and I did nothing to it, and didn't touch it.

    Where's the Weight?

    • Written by from Ramrod Key

My iPad looks very nice sitting in this dock on the desk. But when I try to bring something up the base slides some and when it's time to go I have to use a second hand to hold the dock down to retrieve my iPad.

To improve it I would suggest a wider base so it is less likely to wobble and more weight to reduce sliding and ease removal of the iPad.

Great if you only want 'portrait' and don't use a case.

    • Written by from Chicago

Technically, it does what it's supposed to do: hold the iPad in 'portrait' position; provide a dock connector for various compatible cables; provide and audio out port.

And if that's all you want and you don't use a case, you're set.

From a practical standpoint, that doesn't really work for about 90% of the iPad users. If you spend over $500 on an iPad and plan to carry it beyond the living room, you're going to put it into a case.

Even if you ONLY use it in your living room, you're still going to want a case to make it stand, unassisted, in either a portrait or landscape position.

And that's where the Dock becomes useless. Most cases aren't going to allow the Dock to be used without being removed: they are too thick at the contact point with the dock or don't provide a panel on the back that opens. If you have to remove your case to use the Dock, odds are you won't use the dock.

So, my Dock sits unused on my fireplace.

    *sigh*

    OK, but...

Base not wide enough to to provide stability. Does network wit the Apple case. This should have been a standard.

Good for what it is but is it worth the price

    • Written by from litchfield

I just got this dock and I must say it is a lot better then I thought after reading all the reviews, but i dont know if it is worth 30 dollars, it doesnt come with a wallcharger or another usb cable just the dock and it is hard to believe that it is worth what it costs, it seems pretty sturdy, I mean all its doing is sitting on a desk it doesnt have to have the ability to withstand earth quakes, I give it a 3 star rating because of the cost and the fact you cant use it in landscape mode, other then that it does its job and works great

    Dock

    • Written by from Blacksville

I too, was unaware that the iPad would not fit on the dock, while in the case.....come on, apple, you can do better than that.. I love my iPad...considering getting an iPhone......but, the dock, I could have done without!

    Not Recommended... if

    • Written by from San Francisco

Had I known I could not use this in conjunction with the Apple iPad case, I would not have bought this. If you aren't getting the case, then, it's ok. In itself, it does the job, holds it for charging and upright viewing, but that's about it.

    Wholly average product.

    • Written by from Fort Collins

The need to dock the ipad vertically next to my monitor was a substantial one, so I bought this dock. It's FINE. It does what it's supposed to, however, it's not heavy enough (or the connector is too tight). When you remove pad from the dock, you inevitably need to hold it down, or you'll lift the dock off the table. Ah well. Irritating, but not a huge flaw. It does what it's supposed to.

    Bittersweet love

I have an iPad mini and since there are minimum accessories out for the mini I thought if I buy the 30 pin to lightning adapter it would be okay to buy a regular iPad dock. I was wrong. My mini barely fits and it's wobbly bc of the adapter. I would like to see an iPad mini dock out soon.

iPad dock more like iPod touch dock

    • Written by from Valencia

I purchased this for my iPad but it has a case and it doesn't fit, I got creative and instead I put it to use as my iPod dock. I realized that the dock has a great tilt angle for Skype and conference calls, I guess I'll keep it.

Nice looking product, but somewhat flawed

    • Written by from Cibolo

You would think that apple would design a product to work with their accessories en mass...I like the dock, it definitely serves its purpose...BUT....when you put your Ipad in the IPad case that Apple sells, it no longer is able to dock. Small detail concerning the case itself is rubberized with plastic support. I was able to cut a hole for the dock and get it to work that way, but shouldnt have to doctor up my brand new case to get it to work with other apple products like that (especially since the cut works flawlessly, should have been engineered to suit protection and the dock at the same time!

The doc seems to be an afterthought on this

    • Written by from Carp

The positives are that it looks nice, doesn't take up much space then the iPad is out and is well balanced. The downside is that there doesn't seem to be a case or skin that works with this. :-( I'm not sure what Apple could have done to meet the desire for a small dock but working with skins but they didn't figure something out, and with the number of people that add skins and cases, that's a surprise.

If you don't plan to have a skin, get this, it's slick. But if you have a skin, weigh the fact that you need to remove it every time you use the dock.

    A 3/5 Star Rating, and Here's Why!

    • Written by from Jupiter

At first, I got this stand, figuring that it would be a neat way to charge my iPad. Also, to Play Slide Shows on it, while Connected, and just that it props it up pretty nicely... It is a Nice Product, but it was lacking something. Lacking a Widescreen Charge ability, so you can charge in Landscape mode. I was using it, but the Cases that people are going crazy over, do not Fit in the Dock, and most people do not want to pull out their iPad's, when it is protected. Also, people wanted to be able to type, but it does not give you the angle to do so. BUT!!! I have figured out, that YOU CAN, type with it! Just Flip it Over, with it's Rubber side Faced Up, and Now you have a Nice Angle for Typing! I was like, this is Genius, and don't know why Apple did not mention this on the Dock Page, as one of its Abilities. So, I went from a 1 star rating up to 3. Just Flip it over, Now its a Charger, Perfect Typing Keyboard-Angle, Vertical Dock, and PC/TV/ and Camera Kit Connector! I would love for Apple to Add this Idea to the Docks Qualities, since it Truly is a Perfect Keyboard Typing angle! Peace!

won't work with apple ipad case but is nice

    • Written by from Frisco

nicely put together, rugged, clean and smooth. Won't work with the apple iPad case but not worth one start because of that. If you want a nice stand this is nice. Little expensive but nice.
