I love these things!
Written by SR from Lincoln

I now have two of these. The first one acts like a normal wireless router. The second one I purchased because my new HD TV and Blu ray player can be connected by a cat5 cable to the internet for streaming movies and updates. I set up the second one to extend the first one in about 10 minutes. The first one is downstairs and my TV setup is upstairs. The second airport also gives my wireless network a boost upstairs in my house. I never had a dead spot but I sure do have a maximum signal now.

Solved my wireless problems.

I moved from a 1000 SF house to a 2000 SF house recently. I had a Super G wireless router and I thought it was a good one and would work. I set up a work PC along with my MacBook and all looked good. Then, I tried to VPN to the office and work on the PC. The signal would fluctuate so much I would lose the connection and have to reconnect and hope for a better signal. This happened several times a day. I went online and looked at N routers. The reviews said Airport Extreme was rated the highest so I happily went with Apple. Today I worked wireless on the PC and never lost the signal. The signal dropped to 84% twice but rarely went below 94%--no matter the number of tasks I was doing. I'm very pleased with the product and have already recommended it to a friend.

Incredible! This is exactly what I expect from Mac. Plug it up and forget about it. This is the most reliable and simplistic router I have owned.

A Real Step Up For Me
Written by BC from Brinnon
Dec 7, 2009
I've had a wireless router in the house for about 5 years - a Netgear and it has been adequate. The signal wasn't as strong as I'd have liked at every corner of the house and occasionally there were some issues with the ISPs Modem, Clearwire. When I switched over to my MAC Book Pro from a windows based laptop it just seemed like it was time to upgrade my router as well....and I couldn't be happier......I placed it in the attic out of the way where I couldn't put my Netgear unit because the signal wasn't strong enough. The Airport unit is strong througout the house......
In terms of download speeds.....Where I was getting less than 750Kbps I'm now getting 1.25Mbps downloads and often 2Mbps over the same ISP wireless modem.
Set up was easy - it was literally up and running in less than 5 minutes to include the firmware update.
I also like having the ability to have a "Guest Channel." Occasionally our guests use it but I routinely use it as a separate internet connection for my IPhone without disrupting the channel I use for my laptop.
I like having the additional freqency although as yet I don't have a use for it.
The only disappointment is my effort to use the USB port for a remote 1 Terrabyte BackUP. It's just too slow attempting to back up that much data over a wireless network. A smaller drive with selected documents would work just fine. Apple should upgrade the USB port to perhaps a firewire port.3 of 4 people found this useful

Fantastic little hot router....
Written by MD from Eustis

Actually, the Airport Extreme is a fantastic product. While I have only had it a couple of weeks, flawless. Having measured the speed of my internet connection prior to hooking it up, was exactly the same (25 mbs download and 3 mbs upload) after getting it up and running in a matter of minutes.
My only concern, with nothing to compare it to, is that it feels hot to the touch.3 of 3 people found this useful

I had purchased a Belkin N+ wireless router 6 weeks ago and have had problems ever since. Spent a lot of time on the phone, and on hold, with their tech support, and it would work for a few days before it would stop working again. In the end, I believe the Belkin was not compatible with my ISP provider - Comcast. Purchased this router, had my MacBook Pro, a PC upstairs over the garage, and my iphone all connected and working within minutes. I should have known - stuff from Apple just WORKS. I also love how easy it is for someone visiting to be able to connect as a guest so they can use the internet without having access to your home network.

Great buy

I recently installed the AirPort Extreme in my home office. The signal is 5 x 5 throughout our 2400 sq ft house, upstairs and down. Zero issues thus far. It downloads web pages, videos, and large files without any noticeable lag. My VPN connects without issue. Works well with our two Mac desktops and two Windows laptops. I highly recommend this product.

AIRPORT EXTREME - GREAT PRODUCT

This is so far the best product I have ever bought apart from purchasing MacBook Air.
I have been using my BELKIN router which has been my trusted router for 3 years. And have swop to Airport Extreme and configuring without any LAN cable. The AIRPORT UTILITY gives me a smooth transition and now I am using a Linksys modem + Airport EXTREME. Worth the time and money spent.12 of 15 people found this useful

Best Wireless Router Ever!
Written by JH from Highland
Nov 28, 2009
I have recently switched to the AirPort Extreme from a Linksys Wireless Router (WRT54GS) and have never had to restart it. I noticed a large speed increase when I switched to the AirPort. The ability to add a network Hard Drive was great and made using Time Machine even easier. I recommend this router to anyone who is looking to purchase a new router. 6 out of 5 (if the ratings went that high)

I had the older Apple Extreme base station snow drop or whatever its called, and that thing kept dropping a connection after 4 years and im assuming that its because it was so old but im not sure. I tried going over to Netgear and after 7 hours of trying to set it up with a repeater and access point and 2 hours of tech support I went back paid more money and had the best experience setting this thing up! GO apple! I highly recommend this product. You get what you pay for right?

If you have a multi-function scanner/printer/fax do not buy this product as you will instantly lose the scanner/fax functions. It only works with the printer function - certainly all my attempts to get the scanner on my Canon PIXMA MP63) have failed. Apple should be much clearer and state that non-printer functions do not work at all.

Fast and Easy
Written by PK from Omaha

Very easy to setup, did it in under 10 minutes. I am using the Motorola SURFboard SBG900 which is also a 802.11g wireless router... I wanted to try the Airport Extreme to see if I can get better reception (router is in basement, I am up on the 2nd level). Reception seems much better and the big plus is it is 40%-100% faster after checking the download speed. I ran multiple download speed tests and it was always faster.
My only wish is that it had 1 or 2 more ports. All 3 are already being used up.8 of 9 people found this useful

Squeeee!! I'm a wi-fi-tard. This was perfect. I had to call my isp to get a little help, and couldn't get it to work (some DHCP nonsense). I turned my modem and Airport Extreme Base Station off and on, POW! No problems. Been running perfectly since. Very, very happy. Will be buying an express.... when I get a bigger place.

Airport Extreme a waste of time
Written by JW from Ballwin

BUYER BEWARE: I received my AE today and have not been able to get it to communicate with my modem. I've wasted 8 hrs of my life messing with this product, and now Apple wants to charge me to get it working. I don't think so! I'll skip this junk product and keep my $180. Don't waste you hard earned money on this product--Apple doesn't even want to support this defective piece of junk. Moreover, the internet it full of people complaining about this product.

wonderful piece of hardware and software from apple! worked right out of the box, with just the right time taken to setup my 1 wired computer and 3 wireless laptops, some running XP some - Vista. Comment: if you are replacing your older wireless router with the new one, do not forget to restart (turn off then on) your cable modem after switching your wireless routers. this step was not in the manual.
Printer discovery via Bonjour worked like a charm from all machines. Previously, i tried using iomega ix2-200 NAS with print server functionality - it was asking me to reinstall printer driver every time i tried to print from a different pc. sent it back. AirPort prints from all pc's without a glitch.
did not try attaching my external usb drive yet - waiting for the usb hub to come in the mail.
download speed with this apple's 801/n is much faster than what i had before with my netgear 801/g. love the product! will buy more apple's going forward.33 of 37 people found this useful

simplicity without sacrifice
Written by MM

After moving from PC to MAC, and seeing the benefits of how much more user friendly the Mac OS is compared to anything else available, it's no surprise that their hardware is equally as impressive. The automated installation walked me through the entire process of setting up my home network, and not just a simple one, but with multiple hard-drives, Time-Machines, printer, Sonos music system and other peripherals. It detected all attached devices, and set itself up to allow access to all. My Macbook and Mac-Mini were recognized, and within minutes i was able to move files from one machine to another, to use my iPhone to control Sonos, and to set up a secure network in less time than it took me to read the installation instructions for my previous Routers. I've read the problems associate with the dedicated "time-capsules" and i can only say that my base-station with attached HD's set up as time-capsules and extra-storage has proven to be another example of why Apple is the one to beat.
