I have no idea what's going on with this thing, but my batteries die after about a week. I've bought two sets of completely new batteries and this thing drains them in no time flat.

I was looking for an external keyboard to improve ergonomics while using my MacBook Pro at my desk. I usually avoid wireless accessories because they are sometimes more trouble than they're worth, but this keyboard was tempting because I could also use it with an iPad or iPhone. I went ahead and ordered it, along with Apple's rechargeable AA batteries, and have been very happy with the decision.

At my desk, the keyboard has a similar feel to the very nice built-in keyboard on the MacBook Pro. It looks great, is easy to move around and clean under, and one less cable is a plus after all. The battery charge lasts several weeks and when the battery dies it takes less than a minute to rotate in a new pair of rechargeables.

But when I'm traveling the keyboard is really delightful. For many weekend trips I don't need my laptop, but I want to keep up with email. So I'll slip the ultra-thin keyboard in my overnight bag and pair it with my iPhone, which speeds up my email performance immensely.

The only detail I don't like about this keyboard is that if I take the MacBook Pro away from my desk to another part of the house, the Bluetooth connection fades in and out and keeps flashing Connected / Disconnected messages on my screen. I finally got into the habit of turning off the keyboard when I leave the desk -- by holding down the power button for a few seconds -- and that cleared it up. It would have been better if this were automated somehow or configurable on the computer.

But overall, I'm happy I tried this keyboard, and it's now an important part of my professional toolkit.

Great feel but lacking IPad integration

I bought this for IPad. It's got a great feel and would work great for extended typing. But it's lacking in the ability to do simple keyboard navigation. For example, there's no way to tab to the next field on a web page or the next field in any app for that matter. There's no way to jump to a different app (like Alt-tab on windows) and no way to jump to a differ. You're forced to use a mix of screen gestures and typing - not ideal for an expert user!

I'm not a Mac user (yet), so some of this may be "normal" for Mac - not sure.

I'd buy the magic trackpad to help (easier than working on a vertical Ipad screen), but that isn't supported.

    Nice feel. Nice thin size.

BUT how about a keyboard case of some kind???
I am carting it around in the original box when I travel. A protective case would be perfect!

    Animal hair-resistant keyboard? Yes, please

Bought this about a day or two after purchasing my 3rd gen iPad because I like my wrists in their current, RSI-free state. Tactile feel is good and it's easy to carry around (I got an Incase origami workstation/keyboard cover). So far, so good.

My favorite feature: the shallow, well-spaced keys make this thing really easy to clean. It's ideal for dog and cat owners, especially if you use the iPad in bed. Just blow on the keyboard and the hair is gone. This also applies to crumbs if you tend to eat at your desk. I wish I could say that about my full-size Dell and Apple keyboards at work!

Only complaints: Having bluetooth enabled all day does drain the iPad battery. When I'm at work, I've just learned to leave BT off until I need to use the keyboard. Not an ideal fix, but it works.

Don't sacrifice usefulness for a smaller footprint

Absolutely hate the fact that there is no wireless option with a numeric keypad. Seems to me like Apple decided that they would take out the function of a full sized keyboard just so they could have a smaller one that looks "cool". I don't like how this is the keyboard that comes standard with the new iMac. I am an accountant so the fact that this keyboard doesn't have a numeric keypad DRIVES ME CRAZY!

Great keyboard, but really needs to have a back-light feature like the notebook keyboards. Bluetooth occasionally gets confused and the keyboard locks out.

    On/off could be better

    • Written by from Washington

45 of 49 people found this useful

Keyboard is great. But I am constantly frustrated by the lack of a decent on-off. To turn on, you press the power button. Easy. To turn off, you have to hold the power button for a long time until it goes off, which means the light goes off (usually). Probably fine if you're using with a desktop computer, but pretty awful with an iPad and you need to take the iPad away from the keyboard for a few minutes. Because if the keyboard is on, you can't type on the iPad without it.

    Perfect Companion

Apple has recently converted me to a believer in the form and function of hardware and software integration. I purchased this product as a companion for my "new" ipad and have nothing but accolades. Online, the largest criticism that can be found of the wireless keyboard paring with the ipad is that it does not include the home button feature as some other products offer. This is interesting, particularly when you consider that regardless of there being a home button option or not on the keyboard itself, your next move will be to choose, by touching the ipad, the next app or function you wish to activate. To me, this negates the criticism as you need to touch the ipad again regardless. This product is exceptionally constructed, types easily and has met the highest of expectations. I am a heavy business and personal user, typing this very review with joy with my new pairing. The on screen keyboard is fine for minor tasks, however rapid typing calls for serious hardware. Apple wireless keyboard: Comfort, style, form, function - outstanding. Make your choice. I could not be more satisfied.

I can't type on this thing!

This keyboard looks very pretty but I am really starting to hate it. I've been using it for several weeks now at work, and I cannot type properly on it. I make a ridiculous number of typing errors now, compared with my old standard keyboard. Since I use my keyboard mostly for typing computer code, I need to be 100% accurate. I also miss the numpad and other shortcut keys like page down, end, etc.

    The BEST keyboard yet

    • Written by from Wheat Ridge

I've used this keyboard for 2 years now with my iPad 2 and it's been perfect! There is NEVER a need to turn it on and off once you have it paired and turned on. Don't bother to ever turn it off. I had to change out the 2 AA batteries after 8 MONTHS of use. Sooo easy compared to having to plug into a USB every other day. I also like the idea of not having the keyboard hooked up with the case because that just makes the iPad bulkier all the time. This Apple keyboard is also very thin and easily slips into my purse on those rare occasions when I need to take it with me. I found a small padded slipcase for it for that purpose.

Oh....if you want to use the on-screen keyboard there's a small button at the top right corner of the keyboard that will let you switch back and forth between the on-screen keyboard and the Apple keyboard. It just couldn't be easier. I love this Keyboard and consider it just as good as any other Apple product...perfect!

The keyboard couldn't feel better. And it's white so its easy to see the keys at night if you really need to see the keys. I have one question though....

I now have an iPad Mini....does anybody know if I can pair it with the same keyboard and then use it with both the iPad 2 and the Mini WITHOUT having to unpair with one to use the other? If not, I'll just buy another Apple keyboard. But I need to know. Thanks to anyone who can answer me.

Good, but needs more iPad Functions

This keyboard is good but needs more iPad functions. It seems like auto capitalization of the first letter in a new word does not happen when using the keyboard. Ability to switch apps would be great. Also things like being able to turn the font bold or underlined or italicized in Pages by using the keyboard would be good. esc key to exit apps. I'm sure there are more suggestions but these are mine. I also use this for my Windows 7 PC and it works good.

    Overall I like it.

This is the only kind of keyboard that actually increased my typing speed instead of decreasing it. There's no need to adjust or make any modifications. The battery life is great and I am getting spoiled by this! Using it on my iPad 2 is awesome and I no longer have to get used to typing on the touch screen or having the on-screen keyboard blocking my view! The only reason I gave this product 4 stars instead of 5 is because that I actually have to use batteries. It doesn't come with a recharger and I hope that in the future, apple will make a rechargeable one that easily recharges from a wall outlet or by usb.

    Don't let the batteries die.

If you let the batteries die completely it turns into a nice paperweight. I left for a weekend and forgot to turn off my keyboard, batteries died. I put brand new, out of box, batteries in there and it would not turn on at all. Some manufacturing problem, Apple would not fix mine. Looking around online and this is a fairly common problem people are having. Great product but this is a HUGE flaw. Disappointing that apple would release a product with this kind of flaw and not be willing to replace the ones that break.
