I wish I'd gotten the larger one

It's great to have a smaller keyboard on the desktop, but I wish I would have gotten the keyboard with the keypad -- especially since it costs less! As a business owner and designer, I used the keypad all the time for the shortcut keys. This small keyboard is just awkward for those functions.

Awesome at first - stopped working later

I love the keyboard - it's fast to type on and looks nice. I've taken great care of it and I would rate it at least a 4 star if it hadn't stopped working so soon. I've only had it 6 months and now I can't type capital letters when holding the shift key. When I plug it into the mac (brand new mac book pro) the computer starts beeping like crazy as if a key on the keyboard was being held down - only none of the keys are pressed. Later I noticed other things like the mouse arrow would disappear when idle and graphics were glitchy with the keyboard plugged in. -I know it's not a computer issue because when I unplug the keyboard, everything is fine. Restarted the computer many times. Checked to make sure i'm up to date with all the software. It's the keyboard, for sure. And I've only used it for 6 months.

    Missing My Favorite Keys

I love the wireless part, but I need my page down, page up, and the ability to delete in both directions! It's really slowing my productivity!! Which I find stupefying!!.. Nonetheless, I'm ordering the full keyboard.
    I really dread the tether!

    Not happy

Got this tiny keyboard with my new iMac 27" - so I have this huge screen and this tiny keyboard which is useless. Love the wireless connection and the ergonomics but that's about it. The size and shape and location of keys is almost identical to my old wired keyboard - except that the entire RHS of the keyboard is missing!! This gives lots of inefficiencies, not only the missing delete key (to delete forward), but also the numeric keypad, large functional arrow keys, and also the home, end, page up and page down keys. I really need these keys!!

Added to that they have placed the fn key to the far left of the keyboard where the control key is normally positioned (which has been moved right one space to accommodate the moved fn key) so I am forever pressing the fn key and wondering why my commands aren't working.

I for one am totally unimpressed with this keyboard. It's minimilistic gone mad and has created so many inefficiencies. So I now have the options of either just plugging in my old dirty keyboard, buying a new USB connected full keyboard or buying a trackpad plus 'magic' keypad....crazy.

Great if you're happy with a laptop keyboard layout...

    ...I'm not.

Needs a number pad and the extra delete button that comes with it. I hate where they've put the left/right/up/down keys.

Fine keyboard but why not a track pad?

The keyboard is fine but if your mouse is non functioning (or lost) the desktop (an iMac in my case) is useless. It absolutely needs a trackpad or, at least, a model should be offered with a trackpad. Indeed it will have a slightly larger footprint but that is a reasonable tradeoff to some of us.

This keyboard is too small and I really miss having a number pad. I noticed the laptop has a nice keyboard.

    It's pretty, but...

It has a very low-profile, which means my wrist rest doesn't work with it anymore. I also miss the 10-key numeric pad, and am disappointed that I have to pay an extra $49 to get a keyboard with it. I wish it had come standard with the computer.

I think this keyboard would work well for people who don't type a lot, and want a flexible workspace.

    numeric key pad

I thought it would be great but I returned it sine I cannot use it without the numeric keypad. I impute a great deal of numbers and, without the side numeric keypad, it slows me down. Apple ..... you used to make it, what happened. I had to revert to my old 2007 keyboard ! PLEASE build it. Even the Apple store staff cannot figure out why you stopped and no, I do not want the wired one!

    Thanks

Comfortable and fairly ergonomic. Responsive. Mettallic finish is nice. Keys are quiet. Battery life untested so far. I still can't help but feel that Apple is saving money however, as the overall impression is a bit chincey. The absence of a numeric keypad just doesn't cut it for most anyone using this keyboard for business; and sadly, Apple doesn't yet make a wireless version that has one.

Where's the number pad? Doesn't anyone at Apple know that a large percentage of their users populate spreadsheets from time to time? Also, there should be a back space key.

Sleek but missing functions I need

    • Written by from Bayside

13 of 20 people found this useful

I was disappointed to find that the only wireless keyboard available for my new Mac is this tiny one. Sure it is pretty and sleek. But it has no numeric keypad. The keys are shallow and squished too close together. Also, there is an additional function key below the lefthand shift key. This has messed me up on most of my combo keystrokes that I used to be able to do without looking.

I suppose I could get used to typing on this thing, as the keys are shallower and there is potential for faster data entry... but I ended up going back to my old wireless extended Apple keyboard (even tho it uses up batteries quickly).

I can't help but think that this new smaller keyboard feels like Apple skimped on the options that are usually available on most other computer brand keyboards.

Apple really needs to offer an extended wireless keyboard!

    Huge learning curve

    • Written by from Charlottesville

7 of 8 people found this useful

I'm extremely frustrated with the wireless keyboard. The learning curve is use for anyone who works with code, long documents, or even the web. There are no "Page Up", "Page Down", "Home", and "End" dedicated buttons. Home and End are taken care of with Command + an arrow key, but Page Up and Page Down are not replicated (as far as I can tell thus far). Command + Up or Down is supposed to be the shortcut, but those take your immediately to the very bottom or very top of whatever screen you have open. This is no help if you are working through anything that is longer than two screens. Volume and playback buttons are combined with function buttons and so far, no combination of FN, Control, Option, Command, or Shift has allowed me to change the volume on my Mac since I synced the wireless keyboard.

Aesthetically, it is very nice, but the learning curve for anyone who does anything with longer documents is huge. There are shortcut pages on the web, but I haven't seen one specific to this keyboard yet. I can't believe I have to track down some sort of chart to use a keyboard.

The rest of Apple's products are intuitively designed. This is not.

Good Try, Maybe Next Gen Will Be Better If...

As far as Apple products go this keyboard is not horrible, but the design is lacking. Simply put it has no number pad and the arrow keys are much too small. Perhaps the next generation one will be a "full" keyboard again, like previous versions. At the very least Apple should offer a "full" keyboard option.

Beautiful to behold but no numeric keypad. Also, the slim factor is a bit ungainly if you like to put the keyboard on your lap occasionally. So, this one stays in the box.

Love at first sight, but the honeymoon is over

    • Written by from Portland

I cast aside my big, unpretty 3rd party keyboard and replaced it with this sleek little beauty. The keyboard is small and lovely, and looks perfectly at home on my coffee table.

However, after typing for a few hours, my hands began to cramp up as never before. I don't miss the numeric pad, but apparently my hands need more support than this floating island of keys provides.

But the real nail in the coffin was three weeks in when a battery alert popped up on my screen. It was down to 18% charge in less than a month of very casual use. For me, dealing with batteries every month or two negates the elegance of no wires. And no matter how pretty it is, if it hurts my hands, it's failing in it's most basic function. If I have to buy a wrist rest and a jumbo pack of batteries, it is not looking so elegant anymore. I returned it in favor of another less-gorgeous 3rd party keyboard. Sometimes it feels like Apple values elegant design more than my actual needs.

    Quick key junky

This board is very sleek but I am a Final Cut, Motion, Compressor, quick key addict! Now I have to buy an additional keyboard and the only option on Apple site is from another manufacturer. Not cool! The extra $60.00-$70.00 bucks will set me back, or I lose valueable time by not using quick keys. Quick keys are a must for The Pro.
