    Wireless keyboard

For the love of Pete, will you give us a wireless keyboard with a numeric keypad? This product is for a desktop and I do not want or need a lap keyboard for my desktop. I need a fully functional wireless keyboard, not a toy.

Wish it had an on/off switch

I love my Apple Keyboard, but there is a fatal mistake. I cannot put it in my bag, because the buttons get pushed which turns on the keyboard, which runs out the batteries, and sometimes turns iTunes which is really embarrassing in the middle of class, or a work meeting. I have a case, but it does not protect the keys from being pushed.

    Great keyboard, one minor annoyance

I've been using the bluetooth keyboard with my iPad for a few weeks, and it works great. You have to get used to which functions do and don't work relative to the touch screen, but once you know what to expect (when there's no keyboard equivalent to a tap on the screen), it's very easy. The feel of the keys is as good as any keyboard I've used. The bluetooth connection has been very reliable. Oh, and the keyboard is truly a work of art, if that appeals to you. Functionally, I'd give it five stars.

The one little thing that annoys me is that the way the on/off switch is designed -- a big button that is flush with the end of the keyboard, it turns on by accident when I carry it in my bag along with the iPad. It doesn't take much of a bump at all to turn it on. I've resorted to taking out one of the batteries when I carry it. I'll probably make some sort of cap to fit over the end with the switch, to protect it from bumps. If only the switch had some sort of lock-out, like turning it 90 degrees to enable it, or something. That would make it better for portable use.

Overall, it's a great keyboard, very well built, and a pleasure to use. I recommend it highly.

    Nice, but ....

115 of 158 people found this useful

    PROS -

    - Great (Apple) design of course
    - Relatively quiet keys while typing
    - Compact and lightweight
    - Bluetooth with decent range (I've used it about 8 ft. from my computer with no problems)

    CONS -

    - No numerical keypad
    - Battery life a bit short (compared to my MS 3000 keyboard)
    - Could be better ergonomics
    - No backlighting
    - Sometimes takes a few taps on the keys to "wake" it up; especially when using it with Win 7 via Bootcamp

    SUMMARY -

Vey nice keyboard overall .... albeit, with a few caveats. It's all a matter of personal preference. I'll use it until something better (for me) comes along.

    Mind of its own!

I purchased this wireless keyboard to replace the dock-type keyboard I had been using with my iPad. I like the wireless keyboard, but am now experiencing the most irritating quirk. I'll be typing and the keyboard will stop reponding and the iPad built-in keyboard will pop up on screen. I have to sit and wait and then the built-in kepboard will go away and the wireless keyboard will work again. In fact, just in the time I've been typing this review, this has happened 5 times! In addition to this probem, sometimes the keyboard will just take off on its own (6 times now, in case you're counting), sometimes the keyboard will just get a mind of its own and keep typing the last letter I hit and it will run with it and the only way to stop it is to rub my hands over the entire keyboard and hit as many keys as I can. Then I have to use the delete key to erase all the 'eeeeeeeeeeeeeee's" or whatever key (7 times now) whatever key happens to go wild. I need the keyboard and like the touch. It could be a (8 times now), It could be a good product, (9 times now), but it is nearly not usable with this flaw. Wish I knew why it is doing what it is doing. Maybe I should just return the product. That's too much money to spend and then not have something reliable.

Nice KB but watch out for battery leaks

    • Written by from Granite Bay

I have multiple keyboards and only use this one sparingly. The problem is the battery compartment. If you leave unused batteries in there too long, they leak and are effectively cemented inside. You cannot remove them without damaging the keyboard beyond repair. So buy the keyboard if you intend to use it often and replace weak batteries at once. Otherwise, beware.

PERFECT Minimalist Accessory to iPad Mini

Incredibly lightweight keyboard. Keys are extremely comfortable & high touch, typing is very fast. Still waiting for iPad Mini delivery but connection easily made via iPod Touch. Issue of power not turning off right away resolved by removing 1 battery. Fits perfectly in a courier bag bought for iPad Mini.

Fantastic for iPad, but also terrible

    • Written by from Boulder

This is a fantastic keyboard. The tactile response is light, yet solid. It's a breeze to type on, and the brightness/volume/itunes controls work brilliantly on the iPad (and on the iPhone, if you want to use it with that!)

Keyboard shortcuts work fantastically on the iPad as well. cmd+Z, Y, A, X, C, V, B, I, and U all work as expected. Shift+whatever selects text as you'd expect on a desktop as well. You can even insert special characters, like alt+; for ellipsis.

These are all great features, and the battery life has been excellent for me as well. So what's my complaint?

If you drop this keyboard into your bag, unprotected, with your iPad, not only can they scratch one another up, but according to Murphy's Law, your iTunes will start playing your most irritating song at full volume at the worst time, while is simultaneously overwrites the document you were working on with 3,549,196 spaces. Your undo history isn't that big. I, for instance, woke up on the bus to a grinding industrial techno track blasting in my lap. Other passengers were radiating hatred in waves. I felt awful. ALWAYS turn off bluetooth on your iPad before dropping the pair into your bag. ALWAYS.

If it came with a clip-on hard-shell that doubled as a stand for my iDevice, that would be unbelievably amazing, but it doesn't. So the portable aspect of this reduced-size keyboard leaves something to be desired.

    Feels like a Kluge

    • Written by from Livermore

Pluses: It is easier to type especially for long messages.

    Minuses: There are many.
One would think the interface with the iPad would be much better. No tabbing between fields, for example, one is always having to touch the iPad screen. Compose an email, for example and there is no way to send it from the keyboard. One would think ctrl Enter or something would work. One would expect to be able to tab from field to field like one does on a real computer with a keyboard. This is all software and I've waited for over a year since the product was released for s real product. This feels very much like a last minute addition, barely supported. I expected much more full functionality from an Apple product.

    Don't drop it!

    • Written by from Miami

Let me start of by saying that this is a great keyboard, but it has one fatal flaw! If you drop this keyboard, you will most likely end the keyboards life in a single drop. This keyboard loves to fall on it's corners and 2 of it's corners are it's weakest points. One corner is the housing for the batteries, if you dent the aluminum there (which is really easy) you will not be able to change the batteries. The corner opposite of the battery storage, is the power button! Any denting there and you will not be able to turn your keyboard back on!

    Beautiful Quality

I've had my keyboard for two years and I have never had any issues with it, ever. It pairs easily and flawlessly with my Macbook Pro, my iPad 2, and my iPhone 4S. This only thing that is missing is a numeric keypad. I hate having to use the number row above the keys. In addition, the keys are not backlit. Other than that, I have no complaints.

on 2nd keyboard - DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY

I'm on my second keyboard now and they are great while they last, but both of them had the same issue within 6 months of purchase. They continually disconnect from the host Mac. I have found MANY blogs on this exact issue and followed all of the "fixes" without any success for either keyboard. I figured I had a lemon with the first one, but obviously it is a product issue. Don't waste your money...

A great keyboard, and as others have noted, really improves one's typing accuracy.

My only issue is with the lack of a few critical keys--like a control key on the right side of the keyboard, and page up, page down, home keys. While there are key combinations that achieve the same effects, some are clumsy.

(I do not miss the number pad--and I do a LOT of numeric analysis--but the truth is, typing numbers is more accurate when done the "old fashioned" way with the number keys on the main keyboard).

Small size good, missing keys bad

I like Apple’s Wireless keyboard. It’s very compact and easy to use. Never had problems with Bluetooth connectivity or battery life.

So why did I replace it with a Logitech wireless keyboard? Because what made the keyboard so compact is also what made it very inconvenient for me; the lack of a numeric keypad and other important keys like “Home”, “End”, “Delete”, and page keys.

If you work with numbers and financial documents like I do, I recommend not getting this keyboard. Go with a full-size keyboard with all the useful keys.

On a scale of 1 to 5 stars, I give the Apple Wireless keyboard only 2 stars. There are better keyboards out there for less money.

Opinion after 65 years of professional typing!

The Apple Wireless Keyboard that came with my 27" iMac last March is slowly ruining my typing skills. Yes, it looks great, works great, feels great, but the keys are too close together and the home markers, i.e. on the "f" and "j" keys, that guide your hands to the correct position on the keys can hardly be felt. After 65 years of typing I find it most difficult to keep my fingers in the right place on the keyboard. I do not look at the keyboard when typing but this keyboard is just a little bit too small. I have tried for almost a year to adjust to it to no avail. I never had any problem with the traditional keyboards that I used all my life. There definitely is a problem using the Apple Wireless Keyboard, at least for a person who has been using the traditional keyboard all their life. Sorry, but I am forced to look for a different keyboard.

I bought this with my I-Pad, thinking that it would allow me to complete my work quicker, and I must say, this has been a worthwhile investment! It works like any other regular keyboard, its light (making it easy to carry around), and makes typing emails and writing assignments that much more easier!!! I would HIGHLY recommend this to anyone!!!
