Eats battery like crazy every 3 weeks

    • Written by from calgary

Very stylish cool looking keyboard!! However the keyboard will eat a set of batteries every 3 weeks - very unenviromentally sound. I use this with a magic mouse and have short battery life issue with both. I run both macs and pcs have a number of wireless keyboards and mice. The apple wireless keyboard and mouse look great, but the short battery life is very big issue for me

My other keyboard/mice will go 6-12 month without issues. I have pack of akaline batteries ready for my apple keyboard/mouse because I need to. I am amazed how big an energy hog these device are and why this product was ever produced. I had the keyboard replaced once at the apple store and also has the mouse replaced. I would not recommend this product and will likely go back to a wired setup.

For more insight, google "short battery life mac keyboard" Many other users have had the same issue

    Number Pad

    • Written by from APO

Apple needs to bring back the number pad on the wireless keyboard. Previous incarnations of the wireless keyboard featured a number pad and even the current wired one has it, why not the wireless? They just took a laptop keyboard and made it wireless when one of the biggest downsides of a laptop keyboard is the lack of a number pad.

Can't use another keyboard after this...this becomes an addiction

    • Written by from GIG HARBOR

Just trashed my original with a cup of coffee, tried to use an older keyboard but after an hour was hopeless...logged out of work and drove to nearest Apple Store, where I bought two: one to replace the original, a second to keep in a safe place. Doomsday preppers take heed!

Heels for fingers, looks sexy but painful

    • Written by from Toronto

Going to keep it short as possible,

Like with all Apple products, they all look very sexy and attractive like women in heels however it comes at a cost, and that cost is that it is painful (literally), all of apple's keyboards both on their desktop and laptops are incredibly flat. For me and a few other people apple users out there, A little too Flat, that its caused some pretty stiff and intense Repeitive Stress Injuries (RSI) in my hands and fingers

If you value comfort over form switch to another keyboard, some thats not so flat, and more ergonomic, personally i like the Microsoft Natural Ergonomic 4000 keyboard. Plugs in via USB, and all the keys are there and work. However if your going to tough be prepared to see a occupational injury physio therapist.

    Summery
    Beautiful but lethal on fingers
Try it before you buy it, the pain does not appear right away. for me it came up 2-3 days of use after i started on it.

    great little apple keyboard

    • Written by from Gahanna

ultra-slim, very "macbook air-esque". I enjoy using it with my MBA closed and my 24" LED cinema display for a desktop feel. The keyboard has the "feel" of my MBA so transitioning back-and-forth is a breeze. A very nice accessory.

    Don't get it wet!

    • Written by from Woodbury

Got some water on the space bar and now the space bar does;nt work and there is no way to get into the keyboard to clean it.
No way to fix it, unless Apple sends me some instructions; which I doubt.
Otherwise it is a good piece of equipment.

    Broke in one Year

    • Written by from Novi

Nothing had been spilled on it ever, nothing unusual had ever happened to it. After a year, the left half of the keys stopped working so I couldn't log in to my user any longer. I am typing this from a friends computer. Other than this issue, It worked fine. But I'm thinking I may buy a usb keyboard to replace it instead of another copy.

    Awesome for on the go

    • Written by from Summerville

This is probably your best option for typing on your iPhone/iPod touch or iPad on the go. I use this keyboard every day along with my iPhone (using Evernote) to take notes in class. If you're looking for a desktop replacement however, I would look elsewhere. The function keys are great but it's a bit cramped for my liking. Still, this thing works perfectly and I highly recommend it for every iOS road warrior.

    Some keys seem to stick.

    • Written by from Ottawa

This keyboard came packaged with my new IMac. Shortly after receiving it I noticed that a couple of the keys would sometimes not work when pressed. I took it back to the Apple Store but of course when they checked it with another computer it worked. Since then I periodically get this problem. Most of the time it works but sometimes it doesn't. Very frustrating. It doesn't seem to relate to the battery strength or proximity to the computer.

    Great but ...

    • Written by from Scottsdale

The keyboard is nice and works well. It makes typing on the iPad much easier. However, I worry about traveling with it. I kept the box to protect it while carrying in my briefcase or carry-on. But it would be nice to have some way to protect and attach to my iPad for transport. Of course, I probably should have bought a case with a built-in keyboard.

    batteries, cap, keypads

    • Written by from HOUSTON

The Apple Wireless Keyboard is just so-so. I was surprised to find Apple does not offer a wireless keyboard with the usual numeric keypad and arrow/cursor keypad. A USB keyboard with those is still available, but they push the wireless model instead, because they offer only four USB ports on the new iMacs. I always miss the ten-key numeric keypad and the cursor keypad. This is a poor design choice.

The other major issue is battery life. To be fair, I've only had to replace the batteries twice in about four months since getting it. The Apple Magic Mouse, by comparison, eats batteries like candy, every week.

I see that another vendor's keyboards, sold by the Apple Store, offer solar power recharge to avoid frequent battery changes. This is a smart design feature that Apple should use.

But the first thing that happened when I went to replace the batteries the second time? The battery cap rolled away and got lost, never to appear again. Because the cap is also the contact for battery power, the keyboard was now useless. I don't find a way to order the cap by itself. I bought a new keyboard, the same model. But surprise! The Mac didn't want to recognize the new keyboard while busy asking for my password...which I couldn't type with the new, unrecognized keyboard. So...aha, the end cap is interchangeable, so I'm using the old keyboard with the new battery cap, but I'd really like an end cap, to have a spare keyboard. I will ask an Apple person about the end caps, and update if that's doable.

Now, seeing the solar option with full keypads, I will likely put the spare, with the missing cap, in for recycling, and buy the other product.

At least you’ll have .03 cents worth of scrap aluminum

    • Written by from Shingletown

Are you looking for a keyboard that will last about a year and look great doing it? If so this keyboard is for you. I’m now on my second one and it always loses the connection with my iMac and has been displaying random battery messages yet the batteries are new Duracells.

    Best keyboard ever!!!!!

    • Written by from stirling

This is the best keyboard I have ever typed on, in fact I'm typing on it right now. I love its smooth clicking keys, slim blueotth design, and the fact that i can stop/play, mute, fast forward and change the volume of my music. I can change the brightness of the screen and even bring up the on screen keyboard for my emojicons. There are no cons with this apple device, love it!

    Great accessorry for an iPad

    • Written by from Manhasset

I just purchased this in order to use it with my iPad, rather than having to clunk around on the ipad keyboard. So far, I really love this product. It's lightweight and the keystrokes respond nicely to my typing, infinitely better than having to email using the iPad keyboard. I bought the incase origami stand to go with it and the two work really well together. Now I can leave my laptop at home when I don't need to use excel, word or flash, which I'm verry happy about.

    Nice keyboard, no backlit keys

    • Written by from Monroe

    Positives
    - Sleek, slim, elegant design
    - Small desk footprint
    - Wireless
    - Great to type on
    - Weighty feel, not too light
    - High quality parts and construction
    - Alt function = media buttons, eject button
    Negatives
    - NO BACKLIT (Cant see when using for movie/music playback with little to no light situations)
    - No USB inputs
    - No ability to use keyboard during BIOS/Boot screen, mostly contribution to limitation of bluetooth and overall nature of boot sequence.
    - NO PC drivers or support
Main gripes: Not backlit, no PC driver support, lack of functioning until OS boots.

    Really Good

    • Written by from Salem

I really recommend this keyboard to people. I bought it yesterday and I love it. Many people complain about how they can't tell if it is off. To tell if it is off or not, just press the caps lock button before putting your device in standby mode. It will turn off when the deviuce stops using it. I hope this helps.

    Best Keyboard I've ever owned

    • Written by from Centerville

Although I have the older version of this keyboard, the only difference is the # of AA batteries (3 vs. 2 in new one). I must say I've never had a single issue with the keyboard save the first time I paired it, and that only took a couple tries. But, since then I've been using this beautiful keyboard and all of it's many functions every day since I bought it. I have it hooked up to a MBP in clamshell, and truly it is exactly like the keyboard that was on my MBP in the first place, but I like the angle a little better. If you on the wall about this keyboard I say buy it, you won't ever regret it, especially if you use aftermarket rechargeable batteries as I do.
