Decent Keyboard but pricey for what you get

Overall this is an excellent keyboard. Small enough for easy transport and what not but large enough to use comfortably. My biggest qualm is the lack of a number pad. I am very used to having a number pad and the lack of it drives me crazy sometimes.

Very good, a little small but works flawlessly

Picked up this keyboard along with the Magic Mouse. I find the keyboard a little small with the absence of the number pad but the keyboard works well. I still have the wired keyboard under the desk. If I want to switch back but so far I haven't. The keyboard feels the same and types the same as the orginal wired version. I do like the fat that the desk top if free of the wires.

    Most disappointing Apple product

Worked fine for about a year but burns through batteries and constantly disconnects when batteries are low without warning. Final insult was when batteries leaked and there is no way to remove them and clean it up. Had to discard keyboard. Went back to using the original extended wireless keyboard which is discontinued. Too bad, it is a much better product and has a numerical keypad. Looking at other reviews, it seems to be a common problem. Apple can and should do a better job with this product!

    Great keyboard... but

I love the feel of this keyboard. It's very crisp, and very well responsive. However, mine randomly losing signal, and when this happens, it keeps cutting in and out. Don't know what to do about it, not sure if the batteries are just at the end, because when it reconnects, it says they're at 100%.

Hopefully it's just mine. Hopefully, if I buy another one some day, I don't have these same problems.

    Wireless Keyboard and iPad

It is certainly in the tradition of the ultra thin iPad and works wonderfully, what I would like to have however is a nice miniature brief case to carry and protect the iPad, the keyboard and the charger, something like a computer bag but compact. One has to consider these items as durable yet delicate especially when traveling. My biggest issue, once you put your iPad into the case, the iPad docking station is useless as Apple did not take into account the case would not fit into the dock. Anyone want a used dock? Lastly a design change I'd like, put another power port on the left hand side of the iPad so you can dock it horizontally for a better wide screen while viewing movies, you can't do this with the power port on the bottom.

    Battery Consumption Problem Solved

    • Written by

I previously reported very heavy battery consumption. I returned the keyboard and was told that the problem is that some keyboards give an incorrect indication of battery levels. I was given a new keyboard.

What a difference. 24 hrs later and after heavy use and the batteries are still at 100%. I dug all 6 of my old "dead" batteries out of the trash and tested them. They show high levels of charge so indeed, my problem was incorrect indications of battery levels.

I have amended my rating to 5 stars, this keyboard works extremely well.

    Works great with PS3 !!!

I purchased this today to use with my Playstation 3. I figured it was bluetooth, so why would it not work. Turned on my PS3, took the keyboard out of the box and turned it on, did a search with my PS3 to pair it, it asked me to type in a code and hit enter and within a minute from turning it on, I was typing away using my new keyboard. Easy as that! Can even use the directional buttons as if they were on the controller. Nice sturdy and clean looking design too :o)

This keyboard is wonderful at managing battery life. Over 2 months of use still 93% battery life.

Love the keyboard, but tired of being ripped off by Apple upgrades...

Bought the original (3 battery) version of this in April this year; very annoyed to find it's now $20 cheaper and uses one less battery - my version is now more expensive (lithium batteries aren't cheap) and more wasteful to run. It's great that Apple keeps improving its products, but frustrating for customers who invest in (overspend on?) peripherals that outdate so quickly. (Apple's "Mighty" Mouse is another example - can't even buy the wireless version anymore.)

That said, I don't regret the purchase - it's made my work this year a lot more pleasant. Love the size and shape, the tiny footprint, the look, the quietness of the keys. Adjusted to the flat keys easily, my hands are relatively large for a woman and I don't feel the keyboard is too cramped (though am very used to, and comfortable with, typing on a laptop). Lack of numeric keypad is actually a bonus for me as it frees up desk space and makes mousing more comfortable. I agree with other people's complaints about having to use multi-key combos for various functions - this can be a pain (remembering them, if nothing else), but not insurmountable. I do miss having instant page up, page down keys, etc. It would be handy if Apple provided a quick shortcuts guide along with their keyboards...

Portability is fantastic. I work as an editor so need my desk space uncluttered and easily clearable to fit large pages on - lack of wires is essential, and the ability to just stick this keyboard anywhere - shelf, windowsill, stack of books, lap (though it's a little small for this to be ideal)- and still type is terrific. Or I can pop it in a drawer if I don't need it. Battery life so far has been great, though I'm careful to manually switch it off if I leave the desk for more than a few mins - allegedly it powers down by itself but there's no way to check this for sure, as it instantly "powers on" the second you type (how do you know it hasn't been running the whole time?). I'm still using the three lithium batteries it came with, and they're low but still working almost 7 months later.

    Cons
    - did initially have some Bluetooth connectivity issues where the keyboard would drop out, or certain keys (but not others) would randomly stop working, but I suspect this was software related. I've downloaded all updates as they've come along and things seem to have been running smoothly the last couple of months.
    - the white keys do get dirty, unless you're totally pristine in your computer habits and wash your hands before using it every time! But they can also be cleaned up fairly easily.
    - this tends to be a problem with most keyboards, but long fingernails are definitely a hindrance with this one (keep 'em short or go elsewhere!).

Overall, a great decision for me. It loses a star due to the minor glitches I've had with it but mostly to me feeling somewhat ripped off by the Apple machine. Mac users like to believe the hype, on the whole, and good faith has to go both ways...

This is a good little keyboard, but I am not sure it belongs on the mac. I have to say I was less then excited about this item mainly because of the lack of 10 key on it. I hated having to replace the batteries all the time since our computer receives heavy use. But I do love to use it when I am typing on my iPad 2 or my iPad mini. All in all its a good little keyboard but when I order my next Mac, I will opt for a wired version of both the mouse and the keyboard.

Keyboard Falls Short of the Mark

    • Written by from Chester

This keyboard is great to the touch but falls way short for utility. Apple needs to design a wireless keyboard that incorporates a 10 key (calculator capability great addition) and a trackpad. With all of the gesture capabilities built in to Lion it's a waste not to have a trackpad. The keyboard can be deeper than the current providing room for wrist rest with trackpad in the middle probably.

I do lots of typing, and I've found this keyboard to be very easy on my hands. I like the touch of the keys and it's great not having a keyboard take up a lot of space. As a left-hander, having the numbers on the right hand side was something I never used, so I don't miss it.

Compared to my wired Razer Lycosa, the build quality, size, and overall aesthetics of the Apple Wireless Keyboard make it welcome on my desk any time! It paired with my custom built PC without a hitch and runs like a charm. It will take me awhile to get used to the slightly smaller key layout, though; It's approximately 3* smaller than the Lycosa.
Overall, my desk looks cleaner and my fingers are happier! This is definitely a good buy!

PLEASE MAKE A FULL SIZE WIRELESS KEYBOARD!

    • Written by from Port Richey

Although this tiny model is a very nice keyboard, I REALLY miss the full size version with the numeric keypad. Please offer a full size wireless keyboard. I am tied to a corded model as I use my numeric keypad often. Also, please consider repositioning the up/down, left/right arrow keys. Have the up and down together, then the left/right together. The way they are spaced now with the down key located in the middle of the left/right is very annoying. You have to skip over the down key when you are using only your left & right. Looking forward to seeing a full size wireless keyboard. Thanks in advance.

With the numeric keypad back, I would give it 5 stars.

JUST SO THRILLED WITH THIS LITTLE KEYBOARD. IT IS THIN AND LIGHTWEIGHT, AND CORDLESS! MAKING IT EXTREMELY PORTABLE. I ALSO LIKE THAT YOU CAN USE IT WITH THE IPAD2 , TOO. IT GIVES YOU MORE SCREEN TO WORK WITH BECAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE TO HAVE THE TOUCHSCREEN KEYBOARD UP WHILE USING IT. HOWEVER, IT DOES HAVE A KEY THAT'LL BRING IT UP, IF YOU DO FIND YOU NEED IT. I DOUBT IT, THOUGH. DEFINITELY GETS THE THUMBS UP FROM ME....AND HOPEFULLY YOU, TOO. I CONSIDER IT A DEFINITE MUST HAVE, NOW THAT I HAVE ONE.

I really can't use this at work, since it has no number pad like the old keyboard. Also feels a bit cramped, and I keep hitting the caps lock button. Other than that, I guess it is a pretty darn good bit o keyboard.
