NVIDIA geforce GT 120 card in my 08 Mac Pro

    Written by MO from Saanichton

i bought this card for my 2008 YES 2008 Mac Pro 3,1 Quad-Core Intel Xeon and it works great. I would recommend this card if your are trying to hook up new 24" LED cinema display to your 08 MP. I also have a ATI Radeon 4870 and i think this card is just as nice and 3 times cheaper. Hope this helps.

Now running 2 of these cards in my mac pro

    Written by JM from TORRANCE

I just received and installed this card in the second 16x slot in my new 2.66GHz Quad-Core (Nehalem) Mac Pro. I purchased the second card so I would not have to use a mini display port-DVI adapter to run two Dell 3007WFP monitors. I installed the 2nd card carefully, started the computer and both monitors are now running without issue. It could not have been easier.

Even with two of these GT120 cards running this Mac Pro produces a 1/4 of the heat and noise that my Powermac G5 did with just one card installed!

In my case this was easy upgrade route to power two large monitors without any of the mini display port adapter headaches some users have experienced.

Works with Two Displays on Early 2008 Mac Pro

I am also using this card in an Early 2008 (that's two-thousand-eight) Mac Pro 3,1.

I have an older 23" Cinema Display connected as the secondary monitor through this card's DVI port, and a glorious 24" LED Cinema Display as the main display hooked up to the mini display port. Works great!

NVIDIA 120GT working in Mac Pro (Early 2008) Model MacPro3,1 single 2.8 GHz

Card arrived today and spins happily away in slot 2 alongside the NVIDIA GT8800 in slot 1.

There are no installation instructions included so it's probably a good idea to mention the plastic cover sheet which must be removed because otherwise it would block the air inlet. - JG

My original video card died and I bought a Radeon 3870. Put it into my MacPro 2008 and it was WAY TOO LOUD! So I bought the GT120 and it's QUIET! Can not hear the card. I'm happy!

This card replaced my 8800 and it seems to work much better. I would just say you can use any graphics card in a mac if you can get the driver. I did. For the money I would go with this card.

Finally a G280 graphics core based card for the mac!

Mac users have had to wait several years more than the rest of the computing world, but at least we finally have a G280 based card available. This card has 30 streaming multiprocessors vs. the 12 in the 8800 GT mac edition. I use these for vision research, and I can assure you, this is an upgrade.

To call it an upgrade is shameful

This graphics card is wildly overpriced considering the performance. Yes, it will drive your monitor, but if you are trying to find an economic gaming card don't even bother considering this one.

The 8800M GT (thats right, m as in mobile) in my LAPTOP gets better performance than this card.

    weak..

OK, after being a die hard PC fan I decided to buy a Mac Pro 8 core. This card came with the pro and I must say I am feeling let down. The two year old 8800GTX from my PC would run rings around this thing. I wish I could just use that but EFI/power issues would probably nix that idea..I don't run any 3D or CAD programs, but I imagine the lack of horsepower would be an issue..On the flipside, it doesn't operate at 3000 degrees which my 8800gtx did..

Got this on my 08' Mac Pro... Had it for approximately a year, it started inverting colors and other whacky things about several months ago, now its dead... No output whatsoever.

Quiet and cool but only good for video not doing Computer Animation

A expensive investment for running multiple monitors. Not everyone needs to be able to run 4x 30 inch monitors but this is the only way to do it on a mac for now. For The money the 4870 makes more sense for uncompressed HD video encoding and playback of blue-ray content using VLC.But you will have to stick to only having two Displays
Having only 32 Stream Processors and a 16.0 gigabytes per/sec Memory Bandwidth is very slow compared to other workstation offerings so doing video thats 1920x1080 takes an incredible amount of time.
Having a Solid State Drive or a Raid Setup Might help.
The normal Retail Cards that are GT 200 series based have from 70 to 223.8 gb/s Plus the Stream Processors at 128 to 480. That makes a big difference in renendering Scenes in Maya or other CG Editing to get a good frame rate with high resolution Textures in making animation. The Nvidia card has better physics enhancement programming for scenes then ATI but this card can't render textures close to the 8192 x 8192 res limit. I have reached the limit of what I can do with Apple Workstations. If you want to do CG and meshes you might want to try a Skulltrail or other offerings with a Few Tesla cards so you can raytrace and render realtime. Also Crysis on the ATI is unplayable at 2560 by 1600 gets 8 to 18 FPS or a little more playable around 11 to 20 at 1920 by 1200.
