NOT FOR ITALY, NOT FOR iPHONE 5, 5C, 5s, other devices

    • Written by from Honolulu

Every hotel and condo I recently rented in Rome, Venice and Florence, Italy, new or old, had 3-HOLE GROUNDED Wall Sockets, which are NOT COMPATIBLE with this WB974ZM/B Apple World Travel Adapter Kit, thus I believe rendering this Apple Product both USELESS and UNSAFE. When I say unsafe, I mean fire hazard and electrocution.

This $39.00 kit also does not contain the Apple Lightning Connector that is required for the iPhone 5, 5C, and 5S, iPod Touch, iPod Nano, iPad Mini, etc. Apple also gladly sold me the required Lightning to 30-pin Adapters for an additional $29.00 ea. more.

Also Beware: Apple has a VERY short 14 calendar day return policy: If you are like many that purchase a power adapter shortly before traveling, your length of travel may prevent you from being allowed to return products to Apple, after you find out that it does not work.

    Disappointed

    • Written by from Parker

A couple things: First, the kit doesn't come with a lighting cable, so Apple just gave (charged) me for a useless cable. I even asked the store associate that helped with the product if it came with a lighting cable and he said "yes." Apple needs to train their store associates better. Second, they could have condensed the packaging of the plugs into a single USB adapter. Now I have multiple plugs that could easily get lost.

    Out of date

    • Written by from Tigard

I was given this as a gift. I was surprised to find that it included a USD-to-30 pin cable rather than a USB-to-Lightning cable. I assumed that the giver had purchased it last year and waited to give it to me. Then I checked online and was astonished to find that Apple is still selling these with obsolete cables. Like many long-time Apple users, I have a handful of USB-to-30 pin cables for which I no longer have any use. An extra USB-to-Lightning cable would have been handy.

    Great Idea but....

    • Written by from Rush City

I purchased 3 of these based on the recommendations of the Apple specialist. They are definitely the thing to have for world travel. The one draw back is that Apple seems to be behind the times with their own product. We have 2 iPhone 5s and a new iPad mini all these take the new thunderbolt cable, but the world traveler kit comes with the old style cable which does me no service. If you are buying this product for use with your Macbook you will be very happy with the product I would give it a 5 star rating. For the $40 you might think you could get the right cable for the devices you own. The right cable cost $19 so it is expensive to fix the problem on your own. I do recommend staying with all the Apple approved cables and chargers so that is partially why I am in this predicament. I had to return my traveler kits for now. I hope that they update the traveler pack before I leave for my trip as they are very nice and I would like to own 3-4 of them.

    easier than an adapter/ converter

    • Written by from Spearman

I recently studied abroad for 6 months in Europe and used this kit for my 2013 MacBook Air, 2nd Gen iPad, and iPhone 5S. This was MUCH easier than a converter/adapter as it was significantly more compact and also because the iPad and MacBook charges have built-in converters, there was no problem of an electrical overload (a friend was using a small, non-apple converter with her iPhone charging cube electrocuted herself and caused our hostel to lose electricity). One complaint is, like other reviewers, labeling of the different countries would be helpful. Another thing that needs to be updated about this kit is either including a Lightening cord in addition to the 30-pin cord, or the small adapter piece (which I eventually bought because it was easier to travel with rather than 2 cords). Throwing in a set of EarPods would've been great so that I only had to pack this kit with me to have almost all my accessories with me, but that's not really a deal breaker. I have been and will continue to recommend this kit for anyone who travels outside of the United States.

    No Indian adapter?

Great idea, but it's missing support for three-thick pins Indian (Asian) plugs...

    Great converter kit except....

    • Written by from Cloverdale

The plugs should be labeled as another reviewer mentioned. Sadly, this kit was of no use in South Africa which uses a different plug configuration than any other country. Some places had additional European plugs so I was able to use the European converter but not everywhere.

    No lightning cable???

    • Written by from FPO

Why not update this product to include a lightning USB cable? Or even produce another kit to include a lightning USB cable, maybe even a kit that has a short USB cable and a much longer one to give the traveler options. And please engrave the plugs with a number or label what countries they can be used in. This add-on kit would be perfect except without these things make it more cumbersome than buying plug adaptors and cables from a third parties. It would be much nicer to know it's compatible and approved by Apple if it's made by Apple.

    Pretty Presentation, Lacking Regional Clarity

    • Written by from YOUNTVILLE

After reading several reviewers a common theme of poor labeling or lack of appeared. This made me leery of purchasing the world travel kit for some time. While visiting the Apple store I looked at the box and it identifies which adapters go with each regions, but when it comes to Continental Europe and Korea, here the confusion sets in for me.
The two similar adapters are depicted with barely discernible prong thicknesses. Even when the package is opened there is no clear way to tell Central Europe and Korea apart. It becomes clearer when you open the provided paper documentation and turn to page 4 that Apple clearly state the "round thicker pins" are for Korea and the "round thin pins" are for Central Europe. There is similar confusion with the North America and China bladed prong; which again is clearly explained on page 4 of the documentation. "...blades w/out holes" for China and "...blades w/holes", for North America.

I'll be taking a picture of page 4 and keeping it in the cloud for reference. I'll also be placing some of distinguishing mark on the Central Europe prong with a corresponding mark on the exterior box picture. The two pics along with markings will help me remember which one I need to take.

I've mentioned the confusion to the Apple store staff and I also hope Apple will make easily recognizable changes or markings for the future product cycles.

As a side note, the Kit domes with the older style 30 pin adapter; take note if you have a newer iDevice. When we return from our travels I'll update of there are any product failures.

    Worthless

    • Written by from Round Rock

Plugged it in on my first trip to Germany and it worked for a millisecond. Obviously blew a fuse or something. Agree with the comment about Europe and Korea. Tried them all. Hope I can find my receipt when I get home from this trip.

Just needs a lightning adapter, too...

    • Written by from San Diego

I picked up the adapter kit for travel from the United States to Germany / United Kingdom. It various adapters worked exactly as expected for my variety of Mac and iDevices.

It would have been nice if it included a lightning to 30 pin adapter to accomdate the latest iDevices.

1st time traveling outside of your country?

    • Written by from Chickasha

If you're like me, you love or want to travel! I recently graduated college and traveled to Italy. My first time to travel outside of the US and I was doing this alone! I figured the Hotel in Florence, Italy, would have an adapter for me to use, or would know where I could get one. I didn't want to take the chance that an off brand didn't work; nor did I want to go shopping for one, while I was on my very own vacation.

Buy this! It works at the Airports, and in the Hotel rooms.

Great product, but why no labels?

    • Written by from Muskogee

I've had the World Travel Adapter Kit for about two years now, and it has never failed me. I've used it in South America, Europe, and Asia with no problems. However, it does not make sense that the adapters are not labeled. I'm currently living in South Korea, and the plugs for Korea and Europe look almost exactly identical. It's very difficult to tell them apart, so having a small label on the plugs themselves would be most helpful.

    Great product

    • Written by from Cohasset

I have owned this travel kit for 5 years. I bought it thinking I might want to take my laptop for conferences in the future while I was still in gradschool. What do you know I spent 3 years of my postdoc traveling every single place on this planet and only had to bring a 2 little connector for my electronics, one for home and one for the country I was visiting, it is just wonderful (I charge all my other electronics through usb ports so with the wall plug of the phone I charged my kindle with it).

Nearly perfect, need to buy separately too.

    • Written by from Edmonton

This is an excellent product that I find very useful when I travel. Although, I find it necessary to buy some of the individual adapters, and I can not find them anywhere. Between my wife and myself we have several Apple products that need to be charged simultaneously. We frequent certain countries so I don't want to buy several of the whole kits, just some particular adapters.
