    iWeb is a real deal-breaker

    Written by TR from Chicago

    Dec 14, 2009

iWeb won't import my website, a website I made on iWeb on a different Mac. So basically I either use a non-iWeb editor or I start all over on my website, since the only webpages iWeb will edit are ones made by that very iWeb on that very Mac. What a tremendous lack of foresight. What about users buying a new Mac? Will they have to start from scratch on their websites every time they upgrade hard ware? It's so user friendly, it's absolutely useless and lacking any features to make it useful. Not worth $70. It'd be better off as a free download.

    not worth it

I was really disappointed with this. The few enhancements it has to iweb and iphoto are not worth it. Also, I was told it would speed up my processing. It doesn't..it actually seems slower.

    Not too good

    Written by DD from Columbus

    Dec 8, 2009

Garageband was fine, iDVD fine...etc..... What happened to iMovie!?!?! To say I was disappointed with the program is an understatement. It's great if all you want to do is make a simple slideshow but that's about it. I am confused why Apple would want to destroy the great things about iMovie 6 HD. I am typically very satisfied with apple products and take pride in owning an apple computer but I believe that they truly dropped the ball on this one.

    Ease-of-use, but

    Written by LK

I started to work with iWeb lately and I am amazed how fast I have created my own website (offline). I love the templates and after watching the intro-movie the app is pretty self explaining. The downside though is the upload to a windows based ftp-server. It simply does not work and I needed to take the detour via another ftp-client-application.

    Flat Out Amazing

For everyone who keeps bashing iMovie, this is a great product. If you are used to the old software then I don't recommend switching to this one. If you are a new Mac customer, however, then I strongly believe that you should buy this. Garage Band, iPhoto, and iWeb are still amazing.

Is Imovie worse to make Final Cut look better?

    Written by BC from NANAIMO

    Nov 28, 2009

I am a teacher who has recently relocated from a Mac-based school to a PC-based school. I loved working with Macs especially IMOVIE because it allowed my grade 5 kids to create a very effective movie. The number of transitions and the soundtrack bars really helped them and me to the point that any field trip we did would be followed by a kid generated video. I was actually well on may way to successfully lobbying my school to have at least one grade level (mine) to adopt Mac's. This was largely based on previous media success and samples of that. However, when I started to get into the nuts and bolts of taking on new computers, I discovered that the new IMOVIE had very little in the way of new and a lot less than the old. I ended my efforts and am now getting by with Microsoft Movie Maker, not the best choice but better than...

iMovie Hasn't Improved, but iPhoto is pretty nice

Written by HH from New York City

    Nov 24, 2009

I was hoping Apple would give in to iMovie '08 complaints and go back to the HD6 interface. They didn't. They just threw iMovie '09 out. There is no timeline, about 2 effects, a few transitions, AND NO SUPPORT FOR GEETHREE SLICK. iMovie '08/'09 is terrible.

Garbage, junk, horrible, DO NOT BUY FOR iMOVIE, worst ever

    Written by GF from Conifer

    Nov 11, 2009

The new iMovie is quite possibly the hardest to use, confusing and idiotic piece of junk apple has ever released. DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU WANT A GOOD VIDEO EDITING SUITE. I have been using video editing software for 5 years, and since I've switched to HD (AVCHD) I've been limited by apple's software. DO NOT BUY THIS WORTHLESS SOFTWARE!

    Love iLife '09

    Written by DC from Statesboro

    Nov 7, 2009

Absolutely love this update so far. I had '08 and things that I thought needed improving there were fixed here really nicely. Working with different photo libraries is a complete breeze in iPhoto and iMovie can now has super easy access to project and events on different hard drives connected to your Mac. Just plug in the drive with the projects and events and they show up in iMovie. Very happy with this update.

    imovie awful

    Written by HE from Aspen

Such a jumble of complicated maneuvers. I had to have an online video tutor plus David Pogue's book and I still don't understand it. The old imovie (pre '07) was so intuitive I figured it out without reading anything. I just hope I can load my old imovie onto this computer.

    Fantastic... But..

    Written by JM from Copenhagen

..the new Imovie is horrible! It's complicated like a Windows program, almost every visual effect has been replaced by thousands of useless jingles.
Give us the old Imovie back!

(But all the other programs is above heaven)

iMovie 09 a Big Step Backward

    Written by LE

    Oct 28, 2009

I just bought a new Macbook Pro (love it) and iLife 09 (hate it). To my horror, iMovie 09 has none of the features of the older iMovie 06 that are on my older Macbook and now is virtually useless. Missing are the timeline (absolutely necessary), the ability to overlap audio (a must), and controlling volume in parts of the timeline. This newer version of iMovie is so unusable and worthless (it seems like a light version of what used to be an awesome software program that we used often for presentations). Is there a way to download the full version of iMovie (iMovie 06)? We once tried Final Cut Express, but it is much to hard to learn and requires paying for classes. Help!

iMovie 09 is great...when it works.

    Written by AC

    Oct 26, 2009

Ok, so here's the deal. I've been a Windows user for years, and unlike everyone else in the world, I had no probs with Vista. But, I moved to a Mac because I wanted to come back to where it all started. During this time I got used to using Movie Maker and I figured that iMovie should be all that and more. I got my hands on iMovie 08, found out that wasn't the case. So now, I'm trying to use iMovie 09. It's wonderful...when the thing works!!! Tell me, why is it that I can't import a .MOV movie into iMovie 09 that I saved using QUICKTIME!? I've been reading on the web that I have to get some sort of converter for my movies to be read by iMovie. I mean, I even brought them up in iTunes, and they were playing IN IMOVIE, yet I still couldn't edit them. Thank goodness I still have iMovie 06. I hope this isn't some ploy to get people to buy FCP. iPhoto is the ONLY reason why I gave this suite 3 stars. Even it can read my QUICKTIME movies. Why can't iMovie 09 do this. I mean even iMovie 06 does this!? This is FRUSTRATING!

    iDVD

    Written by CU from Norwalk

    Oct 25, 2009

I recently switched from a PC to the new 27'' iMac because I got fed up with the viruses and the constant crashes every time I tried to make a home movie. Overall, the iMac looks and performs great;however, the main reason I dished out 2+k was to make dvd's of my newborn and thus far I am unable to make a simple DVD. I just read several posts by other apple users and I guess Im not alone. I am most disappointed!

    iMovie very frustrating!

    Written by DG from Burnaby

    Oct 14, 2009

I hate what apple did to iMovie for iLife9! There is NO room for freedom in this program. There's NO timeline! I can't just zoom in and zoom out from a photo! I can't view or hide the audio track! The change in the interface is very frustrating! I dislike the restrictions that was put in iMovie9. I'm am very disappointed in the redesign of this program.
