    I tried . . . I really tried

My Logitech Revolution mouse was crapping out, and saw my window to add another Apple product to my desktop. So, I reluctantly changed up my mousing workflow to try the Magic Mouse. Not only was it uncomfortable (the crisp edges dug into my fingers), but this mouse is way to prone to ghost gestures--scrolling and clicking when your hand hits the wrong place. It's going back in the box, and back to the store, and my Logitech is coming back out of the garbage. Trust me, it isn't an easy decision, but this is one thing that Apple has not mastered.

I have over 20 years of computer experience and have had numerous wireless devices. This was the most simple to connect to my absolutely wonderful MacBook Air. I feel that this mouse was well worth the money. I especially enjoy the slim sleek design. I am glad I took a chance in buying this mouse considering some of the reviews. This is an awesome device. Thanks Apple.

    Functionally great, but...

...not so comfortable. I use it when I work from home all day and my hand starts aching after just a couple of hours. It's so nice and streamlined, but I sure wish it was more ergonomic.

The only other negative is that the swipe can be a little too sensitive and does not allow adjustment. One wrong touch and your document goes scrolling waaaaaaay fast the wrong way. Nothing's perfect, I guess.

Otherwise, the mouse is brilliant - it is fast and responsive, and I only have to change the battery every couple of months.

I'm very loyal Apple user for many years. They never stopped to amaze me with ingenious new products. I hoped that it would be the case with Magic mouse... Boy how wrong was I!!!
If You ever need middle button on mouse, you would never want this THING near!!!
So imprecise, so unergonomic, so TRAGIC... !!!!!

The best mouse ever. Hands down

I read the reviews for this purchase, honestly to many. I read some reviews, people were complaining of "hand cramps" "mouse's edges were to sharp" things of this nature. Well I bought the mouse due to the overall love for the mouse, and I am glad I did. This mouse is fantastic. It's makes everything so streamline, smooth, easy to operate. The whole time I used the mouse initially I was kicking myself in the rear wondering why I didn't buy the thing from the start. It was made for mac just like the wireless keyboard I bought with the mouse. I've had a mac for two years and I've been using the "walmart special" mouse and keyboard with it. Just don't people really just don't , buy the mouse and keyboard you'll love yourself in the long run. These people complaining of hand cramps and all that other non sense. Well people thats just the general public, worthless. I highly recommend the mouse and keyboard if you don't have it.

My logitech cordless mouse lasts 1 year on 1 AA battery. My Apple Magic Mouse lasts 1 month of 2 AA batteries. Yet another example of Apple's slow slide back to form before function

    Not so good

After less than a year, I just launched mine across the office and put the pieces in the trash. It felt very good.

The connection was unreliable, constantly dropping off. It had an annoying tendency to just not track well: sometimes only would track up and down, and sometimes only left and right.

I have a very old Apple USB mouse that I have been using flawlessly.

I liked the tap and swipe features of the Magic Mouse. They worked well... when it would stay connected. Perhaps I had a bad mouse but for $70, I think I'll wait before testing that assumption.

this mouse was fine. now it's not. it won't track on my desk. if I put a magazine under it, it works. according to the Apple support forums this is a problem many other customers have. I am disappointed that I will have to replace this expensive and necessary accessory after owning it for perhaps 2 years.

This is the best Apple Wireless Mouse, I've owned three, the Magic Mouse being my third and I love it. I find it to be very comfortable in my hand and wrist. The only thing I miss from the previous mice is the side buttons. But the touch sensitive surface makes up for the lack of side buttons. I would recommend this mouse to anyone using a Mac.

I am very happy with this mouse, I love the Multi-Touch gestures and how smooth it is but for a small office with a 13" MacBook Pro and a Wireless Keyboard, it fits in. So out of all i like this mouse, 5 Stars For Apple 

    First Bad Apple Review

    • Written by from Danville

100 of 122 people found this useful

I love Apple products, and this is my first negative review. The Apple Magic Mouse battery life is very bad. I got the MM with my new iMac this summer. Within the first month, I brought the MM to the Apple store because it had stopped working. It just didn't occur to me that the batteries that came with the MM were dead already. But, that's what it was. I put in two new AA Duracell alkaline batteries, and they last about 3 to 4 weeks. I use the computer an average of 5-hours a day, and turn off the MM when not in use. I inquired at an Apple store yesterday, and they said they were always replacing the batteries on the demos, and 3 to 4 weeks may be about right.

I'm back to using my Logitech nano mouse, which gets about 8 months of use with two AAA Duracells. And, that's without turning off the mouse when not in use.

I'm ready to sell the Apple MM. I refuse to spend more on rechargeable batteries. There's something wrong with the Apple MM design that Apple should fix. Other than the battery life, the Apple MM is a good product.

BTW, I'm still using the original batteries in the wireless keyboard that came with the iMac. No problem there.

    (MM = Mighty Mouse)

a bit too sensitive, must have mouse pad

so you absolutely must have a soft top mouse pad...nothing slick.
and while i love the swipe motion, there are some issues with posturing, where if you are holding it on the side too far up the page will just shake.
also, sometimes the swipe is too sensitive and you loose information, say on a payment page, or while writing an email.

also the battery drains so fast!

    Beautiful but tracks too slowly

I bought this mouse in conjunction with my MacBook Air because no trackpad on a PC laptop has ever been as precise as a traditional mouse. Had I known how great the multi-touch trackpad on the MacBook is I never would have bought the mouse. It simply isn't needed.

Even with the tracking sensitivity set to max in system prefs the mouse takes too large a hand movement to track from one side of the screen to the other. I have always had a very very sensitive mouse on Windows machines and I simply cannot adjust to this mouse.

The built in swipe/scroll gestures are a great innovation but still limited compared to the gestures available on the MacBook trackpad.

Apple has all but made the traditional mouse obsolete for most users with their large and easy to use trackpad.

I owned the Magic Mouse for a grand total of 8 days, and back it went. My thoughts echo that of the majority of other users: great looks, bad usability. Here are my gripes...

    - Its profile is too low to use other than your fingertips when mousing, and there's no hump to rest your wrist on.
    - Tracking is way too slow, requiring my arm to get involved with mousing. Using a mouse for me has never meant more than wrist action. I pray for those with 24" displays or larger. You can download third-party software to crank up the speed, but I shouldn't have to do that with a $70 mouse, should I?
    - The clicks and the scraping sound on the desk are louder than the average mouse.
    - My desk has a birch veneer, and the cursor can get stuck or skip when pointing. It's got better performance than a standard optical mouse, but I've used cheaper laser mice with greater accuracy. A mousepad may be required for better accuracy/noise control.
    - Swipe gestures didn't always register, requiring a second or third try.
    - I believe the aluminum-looking underside is plastic, by the way. While this may be necessary for proper function, I just thought I'd make a note of it it as I haven't seen it mentioned elsewhere.
    - Not recommended for those already used to multi-button mice. It's a fine upgrade if you've only moused with previous Apple pointing devices.

So what DID I like about it? Aside from the looks, the touch-sensitive top was an absolute dream. Flicking a webpage up or down like you're flicking on an iPhone is a pleasure to use on the desktop. But it simply can't save the overpriced and underperforming Magic Mouse.

The Magic Mouse is awesome. I love how easy it is to use. I am a diehard mouse user and when I first got my MBA I had a hard time adjusting to not having one. This is my first Apple (love it!) and was so used to using a mouse with my old Dell PC. Along comes Magic Mouse and I am in heaven! Love it! Makes navigating so much easier. It was so simple to connect to my MBA. I was up and running with it in seconds. I have not experienced any stability issues at all. In fact I feel like I have better control over where I am navigating my cursor when I use it. I can't imagine not having it now that I have been using it for a while. Great product!

I bought this mouse a year ago and its still is working perfect. The one little complaint I have is that the battery cover fell off not even a day after i bought it and it is held on with a piece of tape, but all in all it is a very good product
