Form leaves function in the dust

    • Written by from Boca Raton

My new magic mouse is beautiful. Typical Apple elegance, redefining the aesthetic concept of the lowly mouse. Except - every time I try to use it, I am horribly disappointed. My fingers find no natural home on the impeccably symmetrical, totally convex flowing surface. I have tried everything from gripping the sharp edges with my thumb and ring finger and arching my forefinger and middle finger to the forward corners of the upper surface, to laying my entire palm atop the device and trying to capture it against the table. Nothing works well; unintended commands send my now overly feature-laden desktop skidding off in odd directions.

I hate this thing. And I hate that I am forced to hate it. Apple, please reconsider the relative contributions of form and function before you design your next piece of art.

    A Perfect Mouse...

    • Written by from Charlotte

This mouse is beautiful, amazing, fast, holds incredibly battery life and feels great in your hand. It's amazing what Apple can do!

I bought this a few years back along with the rechargeable battery pack which is a life saver. Everything Apple creates is carefully thought through on a consumers daily use. The rechargeable pack is small, charges quickly and doesn't take up space in your suitcase, backpack or even a pocket. Whereas chargers for Energizer, Duracell and other 3rd party brands are invasive.

I highly recommend this mouse, it's the best $69 you'll ever spend.

... but it's just not working out. you're way too unpredictable. I'm afraid I'm ditching you for your friend logitech m510. Seriously - I've been trying to use this mouse for work for the past 3 months and I just can't take it any more. Way too sensitive when working in illustrator or InDesign. You're zoomed in trying to move an object precisely and Magic mouse decides to go for a run to the opposite side of the page - really really frustrating. Maybe it's me and not you?????

    Best Mouse Ever!

Being a recent Windows convert, it took some time to get accustom to this mouse. But now I love it and is probably the best mouse I have ever used.

    Apple's Magic Mouse is disappointing

    • Written by from Ontario

The Magic Mouse is visually appealing and when it is working, it is fine (better than okay, but not excellent). These are some of the more frustrating problem areas:
--It uses up two AA batteries (as others have written) approximately every three-four weeks. Irritating. I ordered some high-capacity rechargeable batteries in hopes that this would help me from buying new ones. This created a new problem with rechargeable batteries. Because they are not as strong as regular AAs, they need to be replaced about once each week, which is quite inconvenient.
--It disconnects. About every few weeks, my Magic Mouse decides that it is not going to connect/pair with my MacBook Pro laptop. Irritating. Even if the batteries are registering as more than 50 percent charged, I usually have to replace the batteries to get it to pair with my MBP.
As a comparison, my Apple wireless keyboard works terrifically well, never drops its connection with my MBP, and the batteries last for about a year or more.
I was going to buy another Magic Mouse, thinking that mine was just a dud. After reading the reviews, I will wait until a new and improved model is available. We should not have to buy a competitor's product just to get a mouse that works.

    Great mouse

    • Written by from Garden City

This mouse is great. I was apprehensive in buying the mouse. I myself am a review reader so I get hesitant when reading some of these bad reviews. I use a 2013 macbook pro and have had no problems with this mouse. I find the multifunctions very useful and not confusing at all. I also use this in the classroom. I can have my computer at my desk and the mouse up in front of the classroom to teach and it works just fine. I have had to change the original batteries recently (thought the battery life on those were a little short) but I put in some lithium batteries and seems to be doing just fine. Love the fact that I do not have to shut off this mouse all the time. It senses when the computer is on and off, or sleeping. This is a very functional and useful mouse. Only thing it falls short on is tasks that require you to hold down the first "button" which clicking the second. For example in a first-person shooter where you zoom in your scope with one button and fire the shot with the second. I don't expect this mouse to be a gaming mouse at all but found it almost useless in first person shooters like Borderlands 2.

Lots of AA Batteries Going in to Landfills

    • Written by from Hopkinton

The mouse came with my new iMac, a computer I love. It took a few days to get used to the mouse capabilities, and the ponderously slow tracking speed (even on fastest setting). Have had many phantom page swipes, inadvertent zooming, lost signal issues. But, I could live with the poor ergonomics, it is the battery life that gets me. using top of the line Duracell batteries, this is my third pair in 7 weeks. Shouldn't it go in to some sleep mode when not being used?

Going back to my Logitech Wireless.

    THE Best

    • Written by from Knoxville

I have been using all kinds of mice since the first computer came out and nothing compares to the ease of use with the Magic Mouse. I love the smooth action and multi functionality on every surface (wood, concrete, granite, pants leg...). It is also extremely accurate. You should check it out for yourself at an Apple store near you.

Looks cool but needs some nerve

    • Written by from Weston

Looks really great and most of time it works.
But it behaves crazy when I am using maps and power points. Looks like it has a brain, it can scroll or zoom in automatically. I am really crazy some times.

    Apple Magic Mouse

    Extremely disappointing

    • Written by from Highland

In a nutshell, it was unusable. In almost 30 years of buying Apple products, it's the only one I've had to return because of its dismal performance. It's hyper, hyper sensitive and causes the mouse to zip all over the screen at will. It was a tracking nightmare.

I tried for a few weeks to get accustomed to it, but it behaved erratically from day one and never stopped. By the end, I was ready to pull my hair out.

I look forward to the day when Apple retires this version and releases a reliable, stable Magic Mouse.

    Cool functionality, terrible battery life

    • Written by from Tracy

I received the Magic Mouse with my new iMac 27" and it took a little awhile to get used to. The added functions are unique to the design (swiping up and down) but it does cause problems from time to time. My page will accidentally swipe sometimes with only the slightest touch and it's frustrating to use with Adobe Bridge (if you're a Photoshop user). If you remove your hand from the mouse while in Bridge and put it back on, the thumbnails will freak as they bounce back and forth between photos numerous times. Or, it will scroll through dozens of photos by the slightest touch. It's a common problem and has been noted on Adobe forums extensively.

But the worst thing about it is the drain on batteries. Like most Apple products, this is a real bummer. I go through batteries every three or four weeks. I use my computer about 8 to 10 hours a day. So, it's been a real toss-up between functionality and battery life issues.

Mouse is the best ever until it stops working. Lasted less than one year, not long enough for something this expensive. Stopped tracking accurately.

    Apple Majic Mouse (hmmph)

    • Written by from PARA HILLS

I bought the I mac a few months ago and I found the 'magic' mouse rather flimsy and too sensitive and frustrating to use. I would be looking at a page, move the mouse to do something and the page would magnify and to get it back to normal (because tapping the mouse didn't work) I would have to close the page and reopen it, or if I moved the mouse it would slide the page over to another page . It was extremely frustrating. I have had to change 2 batteries in the 'magic' mouse every 3 to 4 weeks, took the mouse back to the shop I purchased it from - they were going to send the mouse away to be repaired until I stood my ground and demanded a replacement as per the law here, the replacement mouse has proven to be as bad as the original in all aspects. I have now gone back to using a Logitech mouse which is easier to use and uses 1 AA battery with an expected lifetime of around 12 months going by past experience.

I ordered a Magic Mouse even though I current have a couple of PCs. I will be purchasing a MAC shortly, but I was too curious to wait to see this mouse. True enough, the mouse will only perform basic point and click functions on the PC, but in addition to this, the scroll function seems to work so that all I need to do to scroll down a web page is to move my finger up & down the mouse. Love this. Now I can hardly wait until I get my MAC (for obvious reasons) & to use this mouse in its entirety.
    Love Apple products.
