I would have given this mouse 5 stars for its design and functionality, had it not been that it is unusable with my recently-purchased Mac Pro. Due to poorly designed Bluetooth circuitry on the Mac Pro, and to the metal casing of this mouse, the cursor experiences really slow, jittery tracking. In plain English, when you move the cursor it stops and jumps randomly instead of providing smooth motion.
The issue is as much a problem in the Mac Pro as in the mouse. Earlier models of Mac Pros could experience Bluetooth issues due to improper wiring done by Apple, but not so for Mac Pros sold in 2009, such as mine. In my case, the internal Bluetooth/Airport antennas are wired correctly but the mouse appears too weak to maintain a solid link with the computer.
After a few days of frustration (reinstalling drivers, replacing batteries, upgrading to 10.6.2) I discovered that I could get better tracking by "popping the hood", i.e. removing the battery compartment cover so that there would be less metal stopping the Bluetooth signals from traveling from the mouse to the computer. The thought of ruining a marvel of modern design by ripping it open is wrong at a fundamental level. Besides "popping the hood" on the Magic Mouse is not a 100% reliable solution to poor Bluetooth connectivity.

Bottom line: if you own a Mac Pro, there is a potential that you will never be able to enjoy a Magic Mouse due to its insufficient signal strength.

just got a new magic mouse went use it for the first time and it did not scroll..looked up why and it said it would not work with my older software 0x 10.4.11 on my mac book pro...go figure.. same thing happened when i bought my i pad 2 and wanted to synch it with my mac book..hate the way apple makes new gadgets but u cant integrate them with apples you currently have that are running perfectly fine just the way they are..... now i have to upgrade my operating system again which i cant afford right now to use my new mouse...the stores should ask you when you purchase their equipment what operating system you are using to see if it will be compatible.There was no information on the packaging letting u know what operating system would work with the magic mouse what happened to customer service at apple...

I want to love this mouse. It does so many things so well, but it is absolutely, positively terrible for spreadsheets. I have my scrolling speed set as slow as possible and have turned off inertia, but even the smallest motions still cause the spreadsheet to jump 20 or more columns and/or rows. It often takes a couple minutes to figure where I was in the spreadsheet, which is huge hit to productivity.

If you spend any time doing spreadsheets, you will not be able to retain your sanity when using this mouse.

Tracking way to slow even at full speed. I have to lift it 3 times just to get the arrow to the other side of the screen. Who would think this is okay? Fix it or I will return it.

If I could give this mouse 0 stars I would. Just getting one was such a complete exercise in futility, that I don't think I will be spending money on any Apple products for quite a long time. But that is a different story.

The mouse tracks horribly. It claims to track on any surface, but short of something covered in grease, I cannot imagine any surface this mouse works well on. It has two very thin, dull plastic feet that drag on every mouse pad and surface I've tried. The pointer itself crawls, even on the highest speed setting. I've tried it on lion, mountain lion, and snow leopard, and it’s equally slow in each OS. The touch surface however is overly sensitive, and you have to be extremely careful to not graze it while you’re moving the mouse around, or it will activate one of the gestures, or scroll your page.

I like how this mouse works, but we've had it for about a year now and we have to change batteries EVERYDAY! We've bought industrial batteries and rechargeable, and we turn off the mouse when the computer is not in use. What is the point of having a better product if it's so NOT environmentally friendly? I'd buy the mouse that plugs in, but it got terrible reviews for it's roller ball not working. What am I supposed to do, memorize all the possible key strokes so I can be mouse free?

My $$ certainly does magically disappear on replacement batteries for this mouse. It came with my iMac and the Duracell Ultra Advanced batteries I use don't last for more than 2 or 3 months (max) -- and it's not the batteries, because they've been powering flashlights and remotes without a problem. For long-term use, this is a very expensive Apple "idea". For the environmentally conscious: where are all the drained batteries supposed to go? Are battery-recycling bins everywhere to be found? No! So what did Apple imagine was going to happen when Magic Mouse owners trash all their quickly-drained batteries?

Don't spend the money on this mouse. I could get used to all the erratic swipes and pans but it loses the Bluetooth connection about 50 times a day. I have replaced batteries, put little squares of paper inside, turned off every Bluetooth device within a mile radius and it still does not work. I am on a band new Macbook Pro but it just drops the connection. Terrible product. I am forced to go back to an old Dell mouse. At least it works!

If you use Photoshop or Illustrator at all this mouse has a mind of its own! I have used it for a few months now and it will skip all around and never do what you want it to. Also if you are gaming of any kind on your mac it doesn't handle that well either. It works fine with simple things like surfing the net but that is about it.

My recommendation: if you do any design or gaming don't buy!!

I am very disappointed with this mouse. It seems like a step back from the mighty mouse.

No Expose
I am a designer and use expose all the time with the mighty mouse, and now with this new mouse I am limited to only two buttons. I am constantly trying to find buried windows with no success in pressing my mouse.

Double swipe
Not very useful and only works if you get your fingers in the right position. Not to mention at times it does it without you wanting it to.

Too sensitive or not enough
My designs are always flying around my window because I accidentally swipe my mouse, but if I want it to scroll, it takes too much concentration. It's very touchy.

I wish my new iMac had come with the mighty mouse and larger keyboard. That's the other thing that's terrible, the small keyboard is just too hard to work with. My command/option/control buttons are smaller and trying to design with shortcuts is a pain.
