Great concept but very power hungry. Working with this mouse now over 2 month and need to change batteries every other day. Should have come with rechargeable batteries and loading stand or so.

I am an avid apple user and I rarely write a bad review.
This is probably one of the worst gadgets made by apple. Conceptually and esthetically perfect, yet practically deficient. Overly sensitive in some instances yet the opposite in others, hence reliability becomes an issue. Also, whatever you do, do not download MagicPrefs.app as your mouse will definitely get a mind of its own and becomes utterly unpredictable and frustrating.
I know its cute, but so is a real mouse, that does not mean I want to own one.
My feedback is based on 3 of these units in my immediate environment as I had bought one for my brother and sister as well as mine....
with identical problems.

I love Apple and their products but this was a miss on my part. The mouse itself is very sleek and smooth. It sits low and with anyone with big hands like myself you will have a hard time using it. You can get used it to it however in no time. The biggest miss for me though was the tracking speed. THE TRACKING SPEEED is HORRIBLE!!!!! Even with my tracking settings up using a Mac Book Pro 15" that i bought 5 months ago this mouse is SLOW. The tracking feels like it lags and doesn't feel responsive. I finally got fed up and purchased a Logitech mouse for $50 and the tracking speed is amazing. Don't get me wrong Apple did a great job on the looks of the mouse and kudos to the touch scroll (works perfectly and smoothly). But this mouse's tracking speed is indeed its NUMBER 1 KILLER!!!

Bought this mouse and used it for just over two weeks, with and without MagicPref's, and I still ended up returning it and reverting to my Wireless Mighty Mouse.

The biggest draw back for me was the functionality that is lost with the Magic Mouse. By that I meant the loss of the side and middle clicks. I must say, scrolling was great, they got that right hands down with the Magic Mouse. However, I rely too much on the middle click option as an application switcher to be willing to part with it. As far as finger swiping goes to go back and forth on pages, or between photo's.... meh... I personally found this gesture a little awkward and couldn't get a good feel for it and even if I did, I'd most likely keep using the keyboard arrows while browsing photo's anyway...

If you're okay with the limited functionality of only having right/left click, then this is a good mouse, like I said the scrolling was great, I loved the ability to be able to flick all the way up or down to the bottom of a page, and I could have done without the side clicks if only I still had a reliable middle click. Emphasis on reliable. I know MagicPref's provides this option and I tried it out, in fact I really wanted it to work for me, but more often than not I found that I wasn't being precise enough with clicking on the middle axis in order for it to work properly, and without feeling exactly where to click (like you do with the scroll ball), it just wasn't working out for me.

Personally for me, I'll settle for cleaning the scroll ball of my wireless Mighty Mouse when it jams up, this is really no big deal for me. A little eye glass cleaner sprayed on a lint free clothe goes a long way.

My hands shake.. They have since I was a kid.. Plus... I have fat fingers.. The mouse is too darn sensitive.. To many unintentional inputs.. I have tried to tweak the mouse to my style but no luck.. Its a GREAT design and concept but doesn't work for everyone.
I need to go back to the Mighty mouse with the scroll wheel button..

It chews up batteries. It's heavy. No "pinch" function.

Why can't "green" apple give us a charging dock for their wireless devices? I use rechargeables, but still they don't hold a charge for that long. Mind you, the previous wireless mouse I used also weighed a ton and had the same appetite for batts.

As to the weight... the two AA batts add to this. I love my wired mouse because it is easier to move around. Yes, I can use one battery, and get half the time of use...

It doesn't have the side pinch function that I loved to use to access my widgets.

On the positive side, the finger gestures are cool.

But also, some programs — mostly Microsoft — go absolutely crazy with the finger gesture sensitivity. Pages seem to scroll all by themselves, even when I'm not touching the finger gesture area of the top of mouse.

A good first try, but not ready for prime time.

I really liked the gestures for flicking through webpages, but the tracking was terrible. When connected, it was so slow I was going off the side my desk. It was stuttery and inconsistent, sometimes only tracking side-to-side and not up and down, and frequently spazzing out completely, connecting and disconnecting. This is all in past-tense because I had to return it. No adjustments to the driver made a difference, and although I have read many similar reports, the Apple Store had nothing to offer but an exchange.

This mouse doesn't seem to be as accurate as the previous models. Although the scroll doesn't break the week after you get it (like the mighty mouse), this scroll isn't the greatest either...often jumping around when you don't want it to. The mouse itself feels uncomfortable in your hand, and I thought it would be just one of those things you would get used to, but sadly its not. No matter how you grip it, it just doesn't feel right. Lastly, I loved the Expose feature when squeezing the mighty mouse (i used it extremely often when working with alot of windows) and this of course is gone too.

Nice try...but I would stick with the Mighty Mouse.

At First Outstanding, until it has been used and accidenty dropped onced or twice. This is the second mouse that this has happened to me with
APPLE products wireless mouses.
STOP WORKING.-- work in one direction only and that is barely... So, I'd give it ** stars. Great IDEA and nice try. I went back to an old standby that i've dropped so many times can not count and works wonderfully on my MAC.. Logitec seems to have their stuff together when it comes to Wireless Mouses.
Thank You apple. Either mouse I purchased from you did not last 3 months. The first one older model lasted 3+ month. This new one i got along with my new MACPRO less then two months old and read above. D.N. Maine
Other Wise I'd give their MacPro and 24" most enjoyable computers i've ever had the pleasure of using. * * * * * for the Computers!

The best feature on this mouse is the gesture support and kinetic scrolling. The design certainly looks very slick. However, I think this is the case of form way before function.

Therein lies Magic Mouse biggest and for user like myself most glaring fault, everyday usability. The mouse is so slim (and I have very small hand) yet heavy that the device does not feel very balanced.

I found myself lifting the mouse off the mat several times. General movement feels more laboriously than average mouse. At the end of the day, I noticed that I'm a lot more productive in my day-to-day task using old mouse from Logitec.

I do get a lot of nice comment for my Magic Mouse, but for daily use I sadly turned back to my old mouse. I just sold my Magic Mouse at a loss and look to purchase one from...gasp...Microsoft.
