Magic Mouse.....only good for cat food

Bought it, used it for 2 weeks when i had to recharge the batteries to Duracell rechargeables. Used it for 3 days, no lase lights came on when I switched it on.
Rechecked position of batteries to made sure, flicked the on/off switch for a couple of times, no lights came on. Control panel mouse preference discovery said "No mouse found". I tell you, this mouse is dead. Two days later, as I was frustrated, I went through the whole procedures again, used brand new batteries but the mouse still did not give any signs of live. A dead mouse is only good for cat food. I am a Mac user since 1984 and I never experienced an Apple product failure until now.
Is there anyone who had similar problems ???

Looks good, but my wrist is hurting

The slim and wireless design is nice. But the hard, smooth surface lacks any sense of tactile connection between your fingertips and the sensor, so it kind of feels like an iPhone without a case—hard and slippery. Not very ergonomically pleasant, because I feel like I'm straining to control the sensors.

When I'm in my layout program, I found that the page automatically starts scrolling up when editing in a text box. I slowed the scroll settings down in system preferences, but it kept doing it so I turned that functionality off. But it's really inconvenient when working in layout design.

It also takes a long time for this mouse to communicate with my wireless keyboard after I've been away from my computer for a while.

My wrist and back are hurting from trying to harness this thing while working in a very information-heavy layout with a lot of type. I gave in and went back to my old mouse.

Unusable with (Closed) Laptop and Time Machine Backing Up

This mouse is great, except when you use it in conjunction with an external display and you close your laptop screen, while Time Machine is running the mouse becomes almost completely unusable because of the lag.

    4 months later and....

I purchased this on Nov 3, and couldn't wait till it shipped to my door step. When I started using it, I loved every single thing about it. From swipe to scroll to the feel and I could care less about the negative skepticism about no button for expose nor dashboard. After 4 months of heavy use I realized this mouse is completely worthless because of one reason. COMFORT. It gave me such big hand aches or discomfort in my wrist that I felt reluctant on using my computer. I mind you that I type a lot of research papers for school and use my mac at least 5 hours a day. The flaw is within the shape of the mouse itself and after reading some of other reviews I realized I wasn't alone. The mouse is too flat so your hand nor fingers rest when at use. The only possible solution I found is to use a non-padded wrist mouse pad, so your hand can lay sort of flat on the mouse itself. But even this after time would become uncomfortable. I found true magic in Microsoft 5000 mobile BT mouse. Best one so far.

Stick With the Mighty Mouse, Magic Mouse is still in BETA, IMHO

I have the Magic Mouse and I don't like it for several reasons:

    1) You still cannot squeeze it and this is huge for me. I am a power user and constantly have between 6 and 10 windows open at a time when I am working

    2) It is too low of a profile

    3) It's very loud when you move it around, much louder than the mighty mouse, and quite annoying!

    4) I find it difficult to hold onto without accidentally dropping it or letting it go.

My overall review... 1/5 stars. It was a great idea, but a total FAIL on Apple's part, and as a business owner, we have our own business account and own A LOT of Apple products!

    Magic mouse, worst mouse ever.

    • Written by from Calgary

Reason one. You cannot use this for gaming at all because it is one button, you cant hold right click and press left click at the same time.
Reason two. Hand starts to hurt because of its shape, its really flat so its hard to rest your hand on it, when you do.. the top of the hand gets strained and hurts!
Reason three. It can be a little grippy, seems like theres a lot of friction on the bottom on a regular plastic mouse pad. It has those long sliders, while a regular mouse has 4 small ones and are smoother.

    Disappointing

I had high hopes for this mouse, but for what I do, it's just not a good fit. I work as a graphic designer, and it's hard to find a happy middle between productivity and frustration. The mouse is very sensitive to the slightest movement when I'm in InDesign, and I find myself scrolling back and forth on the page to get anything done. The same with Illustrator. If I go into preference and make it slower, it defeats the purpose when I'm on the internet trying to scroll through pages. I'm planning on getting my old mighty mouse out.

Waste of Time- Where are the Expose Functions?

What a waste of time! This mouse has no expose function what so ever and therefore is a waste of time. I find myself returning to the the trackpad on my laptop and hardly using this stupid mouse. What is worse is that you install the software and it overrides your expose functions on your macbook's track pad. Come on Apple..............someone forgot to bring their brain to work when they invested this piece of junk. NOT happy!

Going back to the might mouse!

Going back in time with this

    • Written by from Montrose

The tracking on the Magic Mouse is weak, I had to whip out an ancient mouse pad in order to make it work at an acceptable level. Furthermore, there is no Exposé function on the new Magic Mouse, which actually takes an IMac's awesome functionality years backwards. It is time for the current mouse without a tracking ball or a portable glass pad be born.

    I HATE THIS MOUSE!

I have renamed this mouse the "Phantom Mouse" because it will take me places where my hand did not move it! I am a graphic designer and my job is stressful enough as it is. I don't need this additional frustration.

So thank you, magic mouse. Thank you for making me so utterly and painfully frustrated. What happened to keeping things simple? These "techy" devices are making the simplest tasks more challenging and complicated!

    Less buttons = Less Functionality

    • Written by from Holly ridge

If your using any programs that require more than one button then this mouse is not for you. It will require going into your mac system preferences to try and update more then just a left click. Then when that doesn't work you can try going into whatever program you are using to see if you can enable more mouse options. Then after spending 30 mins scrolling through forums or going through apple help you'll decide to either write a negative product review.

Why buy this mouse when you can buy a cheaper mouse that works the first time around without playing around in settings. Macs are supposed to be user friendly. This mouse is not.

    It's expensive and poor quality.
This is not an Apple product ... it's just stylish, glamourous ... but low quality!
Any cheap Logitech mouse is better than this mouse.
It often loose the bluetooth connection, multi touch gesture is not ergonomic.
Must cost 15USD ... no more.
    Shame of you

    FRAGILE

This mouse is great while it works. It breaks very easily simply by putting it into your computer bag (In my case a rolling Tumi bag). This is the second one and final one in the last 6 months. They just stop working - and no it is not battery related. I am an IT professional and no rookie to technology. This thing is WAY to FRAGILE!

I've had this mouse for less than a year. I was very impressed with how it worked. I loved every feature about it. Then it quit working. I can still scroll up and down , and left and right click, but I can't move the cursor around. Luckily I have my old Mighty Mouse, so I can still use that. I've looked online to try to find ways to fix it, but nothing has worked. I then tried to call apple to have them help me, but I would need to shell out more money for that, which is a major disappointment. In the end, I wouldn't recommend this mouse to anyone, which is unfortunate, because I really did like it until it quit working.

I Bought the magic mouse but was very disappointed as soon as i made the first swipe. The mouse had a coated shine on the top which was annoying when trying to swipe your fingers. I also had to set the pointer speed all the way up and the was still not what i wanted. So luckily I returned it and got the MAGIC TRACKPAD. This turned out to work much much better than the magic mouse did.

    Not a good thing!

I don't like mine! If you accidently lift it up off the table, you lose connection and have to take time and spin it around on the table before the connection comes back. This is very frustrating when you are trying to do some serious work. Also, the batteries are constantly going dead. So . . . you have to take the time to address this problem, as well. It's convenient in the fact that you don't have an additional cord to worry about. However, dealing the the cord is less of a P.I.A. than the other issues that the wireless mouse presents.

    NO third button???

    • Written by from Los Angeles

14 of 24 people found this useful

Magic mouse is good but if you are using Maya its useless since you will need a third button functionality and the magic mouse doesn't have it.

This is a big mistake by apple not including the third button functionality.

    not good for my use

Sorry to be a nay-sayer on this particular product. First and most importantly, I've been using a Microsoft 6000 laser mouse with 4 buttons and a clicking/spinning/tilting wheel for 5 years now. This is my baseline. My first complaint is the shallowness. I'm use to resting my hand on top of the large/high MS mouse. With apple, it requires me to hold it up on my own make long days in my hand Second big prob for me is lack of 4/5/6 buttons or motions. I have Spaces and widgets on their own button. No can do with the MM..you have to use the keyboard....Extra step for me. Lastly, the touch-based scrolling is nifty but quirkly. I cannot get the same preciseness with the MM that I can get with a clicking wheel (when it used to work) on my MS mouse. Same problem with the 2-finger swipe. Not always accurate where as a 'click' is (you know when you've clicked but you dont know if your swipe was successful therefore sometimes sending me back too many web pages than I want, etc).

This is the 2nd Mac product that has disappointed me (the 1st being Snow Leopard). Tracking is unreliable and spotty at best (which is a big deal when you are talking about a mouse). Would be a 4 or 4.5 if this problem was solved.
