    The perfect mouse

    • Written by from Prescott

I’ve had my magic mouse for 2 years now. It still runs great. I accidentally dropped it on a slate floor. It made a horrible crash and the batteries popped out. I thought for sure my mouse was done for. But I popped the batteries back in, and it works just fine. Not even a crack to the frame. I was very surprised because it looks so delicate.

Possibly some who are frustrated haven't configured it properly for their usage. If you don't like the zoom, turn off the zoom. If you don't like page swipe, turn off the page swipe. You don't have to use those features. Personally, I love the page swipe, but I don't like the zoom. So I turned off the zoom.

I use my mouse constantly. I'm on the computer about 12 hours a day. My batteries last 4-6 weeks. I use rechargeable batteries. I've been alternating the same set of 4 batteries since I bought the mouse. That has probably saved me about $25.

As far as range, I just tested mine from 10 feet away. I don’t know why anyone would need to use a mouse from 10 feet away, but it works. It probably goes even farther, but that’s as far as I could get and still see the screen.

If you are having issues with it jumping around a bit, you probably just need to clean the optical eye. Use a dry, soft, lint-free wipe like the kind for eyeglasses. That fixes the issue every time for me. Also (as with any optical mouse) use a solid color mouse pad, no pictures.

I would definitely buy another if this one died. I may even buy a backup in case the design changes. I’m very attached to this model.

    Love it

Scrolling is so seamless. Wireless works awesome with Macs. No problems at all. Scrape the gunk off the feet periodically against the edge of a desk and it glides all anew.

Never had trouble with the shape. I find that the shape affords itself to a variety of holding postures, so my hand kind of moves around all the time.

Working great for nearly four years

    • Written by from Juneau

I bought my magic mouse a month or so after it was released. I had always hated Mac mice. This mouse has been fantastic. I use it with my '09 MacBook Pro, and am currently using Mavericks. The mouse has never stuttered, it has nice range (20 feet or so), needs batteries only once every couple months. I'm about to purchase one for a co-worker. Hopefully the quality is still the same!

    I love this mouse!

I read the reviews here and on the Apple website before I bought this mouse, and they were so mixed. Ultimately, I decided to purchase it anyway and I'm glad I did. This has easily been the best mouse I've ever used. I'm using Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion). I bought the mouse in mid-September, so I've been using it for about a month. I also want to state that since I read the reviews and knew about some of the problems, I immediately downloaded MagicPrefs before I even started using the mouse.

First of all, form factor. I don't really care how my mouse looks - I want it to work. However, I DO care about portability, and this mouse is super portable. I had a little Vera Bradley zip ID case (the Clip Zip ID) that I wasn't using, and I can slip the mouse in there easily and throw it in my bag. With Bluetooth there are no dongles to keep track of in the computer or outside, and I have found that the drain on my MacBook Pro isn't as bad as I thought it would be keeping the Bluetooth on all day. I still get about 5 or 6 hours out of my MacBook Pro (I can probably stretch it to 7 hours without the Bluetooth on all day).

As for comfort - holding this mouse does take some getting used to if you are used to resting your palm against a bigger/fatter mouse, but once I got used to it I have found that this mouse is not terribly uncomfortable and actually improves the position of my wrist greatly. I will say that I get fatigue with this mouse faster than with others - my fingers go stiff faster. However, that's after HOURS a day of usage.

I have had zero Bluetooth connectivity problems. This mouse has very smooth tracking. It comes on one of the lowest speed settings by default, so you can always turn up the speed, but personally the mid-level speed is fine for me.

The most magical thing about this mouse is the scrolling. The momentum scrolling is just great - it allows precise control of scroll down a page. I can flick and send my page spinning; I can scroll to an exact place. It's very smooth and honestly, this by itself makes the mouse worth it to me.

In the past I have found that Apple mice have very unsatisfying clicks since the entire thing depresses, but that's not the case with this mouse - it gives a satisfying click. I have my (regular) preferences set to secondary click, so I can use right click. I have had very few problems with the mouse recognizing the difference between a right click and a left click, and it's usually because I've used my right finger a little too far to the left.

I think that for most people the regular preferences out of the box are sufficient. With the regular preferences, you can enable secondary click (for a right click) and use the regular scrolling with one finger. If you double tap with your left finger, you can use "smart zoom," which will either zoom in farther or zoom out. I have found that to be jumpy and not all that smart, so I don't use it much. Swiping left or right with one finger allows you to swipe through pages within apps (or for example, I can swipe my Firefox tabs across the top of my window if I have too many tabs open to see in one window), and swiping left or right with two fingers allows you to swipe between apps. Double-tapping with two fingers brings up Mission Control. This works much more reliably than the smart zoom double-tap, for some reason. This, alone, is more than a traditional mouse would give you, so I think it's a bit absurd to say that the Magic Mouse is basically unusable out of the box.

So basically, I think any OS X user who wants smooth tracking and a variety of options in their mouse would do well to take a look at this one!

I don't know why people keep complaining.

I've owned my magic mouse for 4 months and haven't had to replace the batteries yet. It's tracking works great and it never misreads my touches or clicks. It is my favorite mouse I have ever owned.

    A fine product, this mouse

I like this mouse from the very first moment, I used it.

It gives a good feeling and is a fine extension to the built in track-panel of my MacBook Pro.

    Recommendation for this wonderful mouse.

    4 Years and Kicking!

    • Written by from Olympia

Had my mouse for four years and it is still kicking. Only time I had problems was when I had used my imac bluetooth devices with other mac products and didn't properly disassociate after I was finished. Otherwise it has been a smooth ride. In fact when I use other computers and other mice it feels like a step back in time.

Beautiful, functional and smooth. Make my every day laptop experience so much more pleasurable and pleasant.

It is a successful challenge to the traditional pattern of thinking. It even teaches you how to intelligently move your body. And yes, we actually do not need any buttons to feel an illusionary sense of control, just let it go, my friend !

    Superb!

    • Written by from Quincy

I hesitated to buy this mouse due to the negative experience I had with Mighty Mouse, but it has exceeded my expectations. The design is comfortable, elegant and, most importantly, eminently functional. If a mouse could be intuitive, this is it. At first, I didn't think it could right click, which I missed, but you can enable that feature in your system preferences, making it perfect. Thanks, Apple!

    Wonderful mouse!

    • Written by from Montreal

I really like the Magic Mouse. I got it by purchasing an used iMac, and I really like it! I like the two finger swipe feature to switch between apps. However, in gestures it's inferior to the Magic Trackpad. You can't open the Notification Center nor the Launchpad, and the two-finger double tap to open Mission Control is a bit hard to do. The two-finger swipe up would be better. A bit uncomfortable too, but a big improvement over the previous Mighty Mouse. Definitely worth the upgrade for any Mac user.

    Great mouse!

I have an older IMac and the mouse stopped scrolling. I replaced the stock optical mouse with this Blue Tooth enabled mouse. I love how useful this device is. You can place the mouse where it is comfortable then let your fingers do the work. You can scroll, swipe between pages and click simply with a touch of your finger. Wonderful.

    Perfect daily driver

This mouse is perfect for your everyday needs. Do not buy the Mobee Magic Charger for this mouse because the battery pack they send you makes the mouse disconnect quite frequently and is very aggravating. The only downside of this mouse is that i play a lot of games like Gary's Mod or WOW and you will need another mouse with dedicated left and right click buttons for you to be happy. Other than that this is a great mouse I use everyday and well worth the money because of the gestures you can use on it.

    Solid product

    • Written by from Hopkins

This is a great mouse. Less moving parts than other mouses means the scroll wheel won't break down. The Bluetooth is handy as well, although you'll run through the batteries.

Make sure to have a good surface to use it on, otherwise tracking performance might suffer.

    Overall an Amazing Mouse

    • Written by from Denver

I'm a photographer and graphic designer. Using a magic mouse has made the control over my pointer so much easier. Being able to scroll around with the multi-gesture features has given ease to my working environment. Although there are more things that Apple can improve on this product, i still believe this is an Amazing product by Apple

Superb mouse, take some time to adjust to it

    • Written by from Hastings

Now that I have adjusted to it, I can say that this is the best mouse I have ever used. I just switched to the MacMini from windows, and decided that I might as well go Apple with the accessories as well. I got this mouse along with the non-keypad bluetooth keyboard.

What I mean by getting adjusted is that you have to understand that this mouse is not designed to rest your hand on, in my opinion. Instead the low profile allows the mouse to nearly disappear so that you can rest you hand on your desk. The glide surfaces on the bottom work great on a smooth surface, no mousepad needed. I move mine around mainly by lightly touching the sides and clicking when I need to. The touch functions work very well for me, page scrolling is amazingly fast. On my Mac, I have the tracking set to almost the highest speed, for me this makes the touch functions nearly effortless when reading as well as when working.

    Simply a brilliantly designed mouse.
